    Hey GEORGE, mein “finely feathered freund” (a little German there!)! Very very excellent educational video! BUT, a BIG CORRECTION!! Starting at about 7:40 in your video, you were calling the “CYLINDER LOCKING BOLT” a “PAWL” (or “HAND”)! The PAWL is what rotates the cylinder, which I KNOW YOU KNOW! Your Ruger is an excellent shooter now. The cylinder rotation, or lack of, in the firing mode, is extremely tight too! I have a brass framed Navy Arms .36 Colt style C&B revolver that I bought at Klein’s Sporting Goods in downtown Chicago in 1968, that has at least as tight an action, better than any S&W revolver you’ll ever see! It has to have been worked on by a gunsmith! Nice to see another revolver lock up as tight as mine! Feed it “good schtooff”!!!

    • @TargetSuite
      @TargetSuite  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh my! That is a big a goof. Thanks for pointing it out. Yes I know what a pawl/hand is compared to a cylinder stop or Bolt. It's just the pressures of video work and no one looking over my shoulder at the time😄 Thanks for pointing this out!

    Well done, Mr. George. It’s a shame such an informative video cannot be monetized. TH-cam should reconsider their definition of modifying firearms, as there clearly is no malicious intent in this “how to” video.

    • @TargetSuite

      I agree. I think TH-cam just doesn't have enough gun savvy to understand the difference.

    • @TargetSuite
      @TargetSuite  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Max! There wasn't much to lose with this gun. I think if I hadn't taken the barrel off and gotten rid of that burr I would have still had the problem with the excessive vertical misalignment chamber to bore. Not really sure why that was reduced as much as it was but I'm guessing it had to have something to do with the burr.

    I've enjoyed every video in this series. Thank you very much. 👍
    My Dad bought the same OM .22mag in 1969, both he and the salesman believed it to be a .22 Long Rifle. Found out it wasn't a month later. dad was less then pleased. At his next Lodge meeting he discovered that a Brother and Gun Club member had just purchased a Winchester M9422 in .22Mag, Dad gave Him the Ruger. That Lodge Brother returned that OM Ruger to me after Dad's Memorial Service held at our Lodge in 1988.
    I am much more fortunate then you as My OM shoots very straight. Even had a .22LR Cylinder fitted to it a few years back.
    They can be sweet shooting revolvers.

    Congrats for a fine finish. I salute you with a glass of Wood Hat Spirits "Bloody Dapper" bourbon that I helped bottle at a bottling party with a couple of friends.
    One thing else you may want to determine is the cause for the cylinder turn ring scratch. That cylinder stop should not be dragging on the cylinder and it would be a shame to have the gun reblued and have the drag line reappear. The cylinder shop should stay below the cylinder until it is just about to lock up the cylinder.

    • @TargetSuite
      @TargetSuite  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ken. The cylinder stop stays out of the way during the entire rotation. It only pops back up once the lead in reaches the cylinder stop. So all of that ring is from not fully cocking the hammer and then letting it back down and turning the cylinder by hand.
      By the way I just saw your message on patreon about the vault door. Great idea!

    When I bought my S&W 629 4” new, I found that accuracy was mediocre with cast bullets and that the barrel leaded up to beat he’ll. I then measured the chambers and slugged the barrel. With 4 different measurements for the 6 chambers, I sent it back to S&W to correct the chamber measurements. They sent it back to me and said it was within specs and did nothing for me. I then rented the correct reamer and reamed all cylinders to the correct size and both problems went away. Good customer service with some gun makers is sadly a thing of the past.

    From a previous video , you had play up and down in the cylinder and measured it with a gauge !
    Cylinder base pin and base pin hole in the cylinder specification would be my first place to look to find out why !
    I’ve been around Ruger single action revolvers since 1963 and I have not seen a oversize base pin hole in the frame or read about it happening!

    • @TargetSuite
      @TargetSuite  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Turned out it was a barrel bore concentricity issue. But I also added an oversized base pin and that really took up the slop. What a journey.

    You have something there now that even Buffalo Bill would be proud to own.You did a good job, I think that oversized cylinder pin did wonders to your gun and the pawl seems to work just right with the new position of the forcing cone. Not to mention somebody who shoots pretty good. Try some Aguila rounds and I think you will find they shoot better.

    You REALLY REALLY showed those guys in the Ruger warranty department. At any time you could have sold the pistol and walked away but instead you compiled an array of expensive specialized tools, learned new gun smithing skills, and patiently brought it all together to get that $300 pistol working again lol. This series has been awesome though.
    Video suggestion: try to find a scope with bdc that works well on a .44 magnum carbine.
    Keep up the good work!

    I bought 3 single sixes this year 2 old 1 new.
    I bought them all as 22lr but was surprised when I got home that 2 of them were 22mag, the other surprised me at the time of purchase when the owner gave me a little red felt bag with the mag. cylinder.

    OK, 1) I would've liked to see what just the oversized pin did in terms of alignment. 2) Did you ever figure out why the short borescope quit? 3) With the pin & pawl/hand adjustment it looks like that thing locks up like a Freedom Arms Silhouette revolver, well done. 4) Alignment was off at the top before if I remember correctly, now it looks a little late, like it's being over rotated slightly. Either way, awesome job. 5) When you group are you using the same specific 5 chambers? 6) I'd like to see some paper targets with different ammo so we could compare to the poor initial groups, that would be great to see the improvement. 7) Thanks for not being a "talking head" and pointing the camera at what you're talking about rather than at your face all the time. A lot of TH-camrs just want to shoot their own face talking, you focus on subject matter, not just yourself. Back when I was competing you'd have had a huge line of competitors wanting their revolvers checked at every match. You'd need a selection of oversized pins with you, they'd be snatched up. I remember when Ruger & S&W shooters couldn't keep up with the Dan Wesson guys and as soon as Freedom Arms stuck their toe in it was all over in center fire & rim fire metallic silhouette.

    • @TargetSuite
      @TargetSuite  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment. The biggest factor in getting the cylinder alignment was first the new cylinder stop (I called it a pawl in the video). And second, removing that huge burr and reseating the barrel reduced the up and down misalignment. The cylinder pin didn't help much with that at all, just cut down on the "wobble". Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for the time and effort you took to repair this factory defect Ruger correctly. Now, I'm interested to see how a 3 screw Single Six I purchased awhile ago shoots (not previously fired by me). Hopefully, I'm not in for the same significant repair you had to do.
    While I understand why Ruger wouldn't repair such an old gun, you clearly showed Ruger's problem diagnosis was faulty as well as the poor quality machining of the bore/rifling and the burr that deformed the barrel threads. It's a bit of a compilation of errors by Ruger. It's a pity they didn't use this opportunity to showcase how good they can be.
