If you ever fish cleanish ground try using Yuki invisi line we were using it 32lb is smaller diameter than your 18lb asso, my mate pulled in a lobster creel and weed with it up in Arbroath. Unbelievable line but can't take a nick, keep going mate 😊
Whiting are so much nicer to eat than cod, when you get decent ones they're worth keeping. Always use a shockleader Mike, no line can withstand the shock of casting, it's better to be safe than sorry. Use a good strong leader knot and you won't lose many. Fishing over rough ground your better using braid, the lack of stretch makes retrieving rigs much easier.
I would imagine so, I just don't eat fish 😅 It's crazy, when I've attempted it before in the past, it turns my stomach... but if I grab a prepared one from the shops, I'm fine.
