Yeah that’s literally me, I tried Alan Wake, hated it, loved control, didn’t know they connected. Forward to a few weeks ago, I platinumed Alan wake 2, fucking adored it, replayed control and got every story and doc trophy, to finally playing Alan wake remastered, somewhat enjoying it and understanding the appeal now only a few trophies a away from the platinum(got all the dlc trophies).
glad you ended up liking AW2 but i gotta mention that the case board doesn't take long if you don't try to brute force guess at every clue location lol. like, you compared it to the toddler game of fitting blocks into matching holes because of how easy it is (and i do think for the most part, it is that simple, it just wants the player to figure out the story themselves to some degree) but you're also showing footage of you failing at that simple matching game. the toddler has blindfolded themself and then gets mad about not being able to find the correct slots. just...had to follow the metaphor to it's logical conclusion. also the jumpscares weren't random, they were the various taken bosses trying to invade and influence you, possibly scare you off. enjoyed the video otherwise and agreed with everything about AW1 and control
Matt is just evolving more and more each new video he makes. 30k going up 50 Matt I’ll always support your content and the wonderful fan base you have from Walmart to thriving at what you love to do. Thank you Matt. Thank you 🙏
I know the first Alan Wake is flawed and hasn't aged well, but it fills me with nostalgia and I can't help but enjoy it. And the fact that Alan Wake 2 is a superior sequel fills me with joy and high hopes for the inevitable third game. But until then, I'm eagerly anticipating the DLC!
The Fridge + Beer sip moments had me dying. Congrats for surviving Alan Wake 1 Matt It was a long time coming. Now you're free, off to greener pastures! Thank God the other Remedy games were great, otherwise we've would've lost you to coma induced boredom mid streams Its funny cause It was the same deal with me, people would always tell me how great Alan Wake 1 was and when I played WAY back then, besides the story being interesting, the gameplay and everything else surrounding it was so anemic and boring that I dropped that shit midway, back then I wasn't a trophy hunter. And now I see I didn't miss much. I can see how the first game is beloved by many, but couldn't help but notice my brain matter oozing out my ears whenever I was playing it. I like to see the value in any gameplay loop that exists in many game genres, but Alan Wake 1 was a NO-NO for me, we're talking about borderline DMC 2 levels of blandness wrapped up in an interesting story, concept and visuals. Only Matt & Chat could make a boring game enjoyable to watch. (I still remember the Batman VS Goku discussion as well as Wesker "Power levels" conversation).
Definitely disagree about Alan Wake gameplay being boring or whatever he called it. It was fun to me. Enemies had to have light shined on them so you could do damage. Nice and simple. To each your own 🤷🏾♂️
Not gonna lie, I did not like Alan Wake either when I first played it. But after hearing the remarkable reviews of Alan Wake 2, I started to think about getting the sequel and after seeing what you thought, I just went ahead and bought the game and I'm having an absolute blast
Let's go! You finally Woke Alan up! Great video, it was fun to catch the streams despite the difference in time zones. The fact that the conversations we all had in stream during 1 made it worth it, especially that Batman vs Wesker one. But final thing, Batman would solo ngl.
I have to admit that I can't finish watching your video at the moment because I'm waiting until Alan Wake 2 gets cheaper and I want to play it myself. Nevertheless, I would like to say that the music from Silent Hill 2 at the beginning of the Alan Wake 2 section is simply brilliant. And I love your trophy hunting videos. 🏆
I feel the same way about Alan wakes combat, especially in the second. Love the game, love the story, but the last 1/3rd of each game, I just sprint past everything. Especially the ocean summoning, just ran in circles until it was over.
Recently started following your videos, all started with DMC 1 and I've loved your content since. This game seemed torturous at times and as a fellow Cenobite who enjoys pain, I salute you!
another gawdlike video from the gawd himself great video as always dude surprised by how quick you edited it but i aint complaing hope to see more vids from the gawd himself
Despite some missteps. Still massive props to Remedy making their first truly survival horror game. How many studios can say their first horror game was at this caliber? I really hope the New Game+ they're doing will address some of this stuff and maybe add more enemies in some locations that are otherwise barren. I will say tho the fight with Cynthia had me genuinely sweating. That and the Nightingale boss fights were pretty good
Alan Wake (and Remedyverse as a whole) is pretty much my favourite franchise. My achievement/trophy journey on every platform in the Alan Wake series since 2010 is as follows: Alan Wake 100%: - Xbox 360 - Steam American Nightmare 100%: - Steam (skill issue to complete the arcade mode achievements on xbox 360 :P ) Quantum Break 100%: - Xbox One - Steam Control 100%: - Steam - Epic (first playthrough on this platform, no achievements available but still 100% completed) - PS4/PS5 (starting to get the feeling during writing this to buy the game on Xbox to get all achievements there too) Alan Wake Remastered 100% - Epic - PS4/PS5 - Xbox One Alan Wake II 100%: - Epic (including Final Draft) - Working on platinum on PS5.
Who would have thought that the fridge would follow you all the way from SF6 into Alan Wake and even Control. I don't typically comment, but I do always make sure to watch the videos. Great job, man.
The mind place was definitely not perfected. It actually broke on my ass in the literal end of the game when you have to escape it so I haven't even been able to finish
Funny I’ve been doing this exact same platinum run, did Alan wake 2, and all control including dlc trophies, just need a few Alan Wake Remastered collectible trophies and half way through nightmare.
Kinda crazy how you went from hating the first game to loving the second one. Glad it ended with you actually having fun my man! Congrats on the plats!
The first Alan wake game is one my favorite games ever. Alan wake 2 is arguably one of the best sequels ever this game was a strong 9 for me. My only problems were general lack of directions given to the player and the case board being a bit buggy with the zoom in mechanics. I love saga as a character and Alan feels so much more fleshed out than in the first game
I recently finished Alan Wake 2 and I gotta say I agree with you about the mind place, but I'd almost go a step further and say that Saga as a main character was a mistake. Not necessarily because she was bad, but the game is about Alan Wake and is literally called Alan Wake, you play him less than half the time as it seems plus slamming on the breaks every 30 or so minutes to change characters and even more often to go to the mind place to put down a few cards really threw a wrench into everything for me. Still not a bad game or anything, just by far not was enjoyable as I had hoped it would be. I'm not a big fan of multiple characters in general though - Didn't like it in Last of Us 2 and I didn't like it in Trails into Reverie either. As for Control: It's just great, I really enjoyed the game when it came out and even played the Foundation expansion, but the for some reason never played the AWE DLC. Came back to it in summer of last year to finally play it and liked it enough to start over with the PS5 version and get 100% there too. Last but not least Alan Wake: Seems like our opinion GREATLY differ here, because I really enjoyed my time with it and even if it was really smple in terms of combat I still had a good time. You can run away from encounters here and there and I even made it a little game for me to see what I can get away with, but if you play it like this most of the time, you're doing something wrong, because you're not some kind of superhero that can 50+ hits and still be fine as you've noticed yourself. The only thing that I wasn't a big fan of was the no deaths, no reloads part o the DLCs, but it wasn't too hard either. You just have to be very careful with the platforming.
To each their own in regards to the first game and I agree Control was great. Regarding your thoughts on Saga though I don't think removing her from the game is a good idea, she plays a vital role in the games' narrative and it just wouldn't be the same game without her. It's important for the player to see what's going on in the real world while Alan is trapped in the dark place and we get to see that through Saga's perspective and how what Alan does in the dark place affects reality. If the game was just Alan you wouldn't know at all what's going on outside the dark place and that would rob you of half of the experience. Also without spoiling anything the ending wouldn't have been nearly as mind blowing without her. It's literally just the case board I have an issue with personally because of the tedious gameplay involving it.
I have to go and Plat Alan Wake Remaster at some point. Dreading doing so post obtaining the Plat for Control though, but the story will probably push me through to the end.
I am also going for all the trophies. I started with control though which I'm thinking I should have done alan wake 1 first but I previously started control so I just decided to work on it first. I'll buy Alan wake 2 once I'm done with those 2.

I love Alan Wake 1 and it's one of my favorite games despite it's repetitive gameplay. I hated Alan Wake 2, the characters were idiots and the story was completely pointless. I found myself screaming "Just f*cking end!" at my TV during the last few hours of that turd.

I love you Matt but my god, you are just making the case board too hard for yourself. Just read it man, it takes like 3 seconds and you’ll know immediately where to put it
Alan Woke
WTF JUST READ TF CLUE SO YOU WHERE TO PUT IT
Nah.
I love Alan Wake 1 and it's one of my favorite games despite it's repetitive gameplay. I hated Alan Wake 2, the characters were idiots and the story was completely pointless. I found myself screaming "Just f*cking end!" at my TV during the last few hours of that turd.
