  • Well, they say it takes practice. So the third piece we did was much better. My understanding of the placement of the flowers was critical.
Looking forward to glazing them with celadons.

I’ve printed a lot of plants and some flowers in clay for over 30 years. If it’s going to be a while between collecting flowers/plants or specimens place them in an old book or paperback with several pages in between. Old phone books are the best. Dried out specimens make the best prints. Some of my specimens are 20 years old or older. I predominantly work with iron oxides but want to try colors of earth. I found I lost too much detail glazing over the prints. Always lining the inside. I prefer a light color or white on the inside to assure you can see that the inside of your vase is clean before you fill with fresh water and flowers. Your vase is beautiful and what a lovely memory for the recipients. Love the thumb prints. I’m in Colorado printing Aspen and some dragonflies at present

Thanks for the advice. I am thinking about the glazing. Celadons and thinking not too think so they are translucent.

This video makes me want to hand built with you. It would be fun. To bad I'm in California. I need potter friends. I started pottery taking a ceramic sculpture so the wheel was something I had to learn. Great vase I love how the impressions turned out. Xiem has a nice scoring tool instead of using a pin tool.

Yes. Re Xiem. Now I look at every leaf to see a pattern. !! It was a great first attempt. Next needs to be sculpture !!

@@LoisHook That will be fun to watch. I do busts solid on an armature then when it's leather hard cut out a part of then back of the head to scoop out the clay to 1/2 inch thick. I did it once to soon and the whole thing collapsed that sucked. so there is a learning curve. Good Luck. :)

I really wanted to see how you made the base and filled in the bottom bit! This is quite different from your usual, which I love, but .I love this too and shall be waiting to see how it goes. I love the tiny flowers, really they are what makes a bouquet special! I take a LOT of photos of these kind of flowers and plants. So this work really resonates for me.

      Thankyou so much.
So the join of the tube and the base. You see I scored and used slip I then slipped again on the join on the inside. Rolled some clay and pushed into the join so it made a strong smooth join.

Hi Michele. All is well. We moved house and haven’t set up anywhere to do pottery yet. Though parents have been poorly and that has taken up time. Xx

The new house has a good sized garden. I want to make the left side artsy. I’ve had electrics put there for water features. Maybe a Japanese theme.
