Nice just purchased the 2017 Motobecane Fantom DS PRO. For 1399 I could not even come close to getting anything close to that price even pricing everything out myself. Looking forward to getting mine and thank for the video. You did a great job. Thanks.

I'm running the 18.5 with 2.35 tires front and rear. Put 80 miles on it in last month. I love it. it's a bit on piggy side but it plants well in corners. I've done dropper post, grips, 60mm stem and converted tubeless. I will be swapping front fork to a Rock Shox Reba tho. clean it, lube it, and shred the crap out of it and you will not be disappoi

last year i ordered a fantom 29 elite(HARDTAIL). changed the grips, the stem, the pedals, the seat and seat post to a canecreek thudbuster( all of this came off my old bike) i ABSOLUTELY love mine.came with great components. and they were dialed in pretty good (little tweaking on brakes).this bike will FLY DOWN THE TRAILS !! for 999 its an unbeatable deal!!!!

I bought a 2021 Motobecane Fantom DS ELITE because of the price and the performance, it is a little heavy but rides really good, here in FL there aren't to many big climbs so I'm alright with it. I'm very happy with the 29er wheels. I will upgrade the components as they wear, but for now it's great.

@@camerebros5324 Yeah, I like the bike but just can't leave it alone. I converted to 1X8 with a 11 - 46 cassette and a cheap crankset from amazon. Upgraded the rear shock and front fork to Rock Shox and put a dropper seat post on so I can get my 67 year old leg over it. Now I'm waiting on a new carbon fibre frame to arrive so I can put together another bike. I guess one's never enough.

Hey OCD! Very, very well made videos. Thanks for the effort on behalf of all MotoB owners! My question is....since the the smaller frame of this model come w/27.5 wheelsets, your opinion, do you think one can put 27.5 on the large size w/o too much penalty?? I was looking more for a SC Bantam clone...this would fit the bill if I can put 27.5's 8n it. Thanks again.

    • @OCDMountainBiking
      @OCDMountainBiking  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Nino Hill Thank you. You're very welcome, it is my pleasure making these videos! I'm sure you could make that conversion, but it would lower the BB a bit which could result in more frequent pedal strikes. You'll just have to be more aware of your pedal position when entering a corner. Thank you for your question, I hope this helps!

My dad bought the lesser equipped version of this bike in 27.5. I'd just like to say that the geometry is awesome. I assembled the bike for him and jumped on for a ride around the yard and felt like I'd been riding it for years. I took it over a ramp I have with a two foot drop, it was like riding a cloud on the landing. The handling was very intuitive. In the next few months I will be buying my first full suspension bike and it will be this bike.

    no bending and creaking, nice.
I have a bike that cost much more than this, It's a 2014 trek fuel ex 7 29er, and the frame bends into the 2.3 tyre, and hte left side of the bottom bracket wears out in 4 months due to the flex. But I heard the new ones with straight downtube are much stiffer.

    • @OCDMountainBiking

I still love it. No issues so far. I would recommend greasing everything when you first get a Motobecane. I did just that, minus the rear pivot bearing and a year later it started making noise. I pulled it apart and the bearings were pretty much bone dry. Just go over everything when you get it and torque everything to spec and I'm sure you'll get years of trouble free use out of it!

hey OCD how does this bike compare to the Motobecane HAL5 NX SRAM 1X Edition

    • @OCDMountainBiking

Well the Hal5 has a more modern rear suspension setup and is running the 1X system. I would say it's a bit more advanced and should be a pretty darn good bike for the $$$. If I had to choose between the two today, I'd probably choose the Hal5. That being said I still love the Fantom. Either way I'm sure you'll be pleased. Enjoy your new bike!

Good stuff! I just got a Motobecane Fantom29 Comp (hardtail) myself and it even came with better parts than listed! It has the Shimano XT M8000 Hydraulic breaks and other 6-8 series Shimano parts with a hollow crank and all. I'm 6'4" so I got the 21" frame and it fits me great and is very light for it's size. So far I only changed the petals and swapped the 110mm stem to a 70mm. Next on the list is changing the tires to match my local trails and a new seat, but other than that is was good to go! great value for those looking to get into the hobby and not break the bank yet it still gives you a platform worth upgrading overtime! I might look into getting a full suspension like your bike down the road but for now i'm loving the hard tail!

@@osint6372 the trek bikes are incredible frames. But if you are comparing bike direct bikes to trek it is truly apples and peanuts. Unless you spend over 1000 on a trek you wont get anything more than low to mid teir specs. They are incredible bikes and customer service is the best in the biz. But if you spend the cash you can get a trek that will be the envy of the bike park. Personally i think that giant and cannondale are the best bikes a novice or diehard cyclist can get on a budget. For 500 dollars you can get a giant talon 3 with hydro disc brakes, a decent fork, and a bulletproof drivetrain. For 750 you can get a cannondale trail with great fork, hydro shimano brakes, shimano drivetrain, and an excellent frame with aggressive geometry. I am skeptical about the bikes direct bikes. They are priced unbeatable and most have excellent specs and hardware that you may find on a 1500 dollar bike. But there has to be a reason they are so cheap and that scares me. Not to mention the ugly looks you get on the trail or at the bike park.

I didn't ride in like 20yrs.. my last mountain bike was a peugeot bought in the early 90's..
I wanted a new bike for fitness etc.. so.. I wanted something in between like a long hauling Adventure bike.. so.. I went with a Giant Toughroad.. and yes.. I love the bike.. great cruising bike..
And it can handle dirt or gravel fine..
But Id like to get a solid Mountain bike to throw around and beat up and save a bit of $.. so.. Ive been looking at Bikes Direct.. and based on the reviews.. they are legit.. the bikes seem to be top quality.. that Motobecane is really a quality product.. I had also considered diamondback because they run great sales at times.. But the Motobecane is a hard deal to beat with the quality you get from it
