I’ve been looking around for this Tani avartanam for a long time, thank you for sharing. It was from the 1956 Ariyakuddi Iyengar concert I believe. What I’ve always loved about Mani Iyer is how he can take a simple nadai and execute it so elegantly. I especially found myself listening again and again to the melkalam thisram he plays with the smooth gumki near the end of the Tani. 7:20 to be exact.
Absolutely unbelievable. Something compelled me to click on this, and it is sensational, such deftness, and skill in bringing out texture and nadham. You don’t find this much in today’s artistes I have to say. Thanks for sharing.
Show me a percussion instrument on this planet that can outdo mridangam I'll give you a million US dollars. PMI was the top of the pyramid of all time great mridangam artistes. Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar once said to the delight of all rasikas that if PMI is with me three of us will be singing! PMI who wanted to be a famous singer achieved his dreams through his fingers on the mridangam. To say his name, write(how many times need be), type that mahan's name as Palghat Mani iyer is a blessing to us. And why not , that Naadan deserves out at most reverence.
