Fergie talks in his autobiography about how Cantona put weight on really easily and they worked with dieticians to try and help him manage it. Also talks about how Eric's "red mist" moments all came in the 2nd half and they wondered if that was diet related. But unbelievable player. Didn't realise how many assists he had until I saw that infographic, but not surprised. The way he would drop deep, drag a CB with him, then ping the ball into the space he'd vacated for Giggs/Sharpe/Kanchelskis to run into was a joy to behold.

Six foot three, with the balance and touch of someone five foot three...summer he retired, we signed five players and still didnt look as good a side the following year...think he went at the right time for him though, even if it was young...had fallen out of love with football a lot and was carrying a fair bit more weight than he had been in previous seasons...
Won the treble the year after that following year though
@@ForeverEngland76 he came back from suspension October 1995 and we won the double in 1995/96…he retired at the end of 96/97…that season we won the league and Chelsea won the FA Cup. Following season, 97/98 Arsenal won the double for the first time under Wenger. Think we might have won the Charity Shield, but can’t remember now…98/99 we won the treble…
I. Ron Butterfly defo would have won the 98 season had he stayed (and Keane didn’t get injured). Arguably would have been there that night in Barcelona
@@IceKoldKilla19 Cantona was terrible in Europe
It used to be said that the only good thing to come out of France was the ferry to Dover. Then there was Cantona!
Cantona brings joy to keanes voice ...... that says something about the man
People have forgotten over the years how good Cantona was. I see people saying he wasnt technically as good as the modern players. Absolute nonsense! The man was wonderfully gifted. He made the premier league in those first 5 or 6 years.
Eric Cantona big game player always delivered when it was most important scored so many important goals he really is the King
Loved Cantona, the level of skill and the showmanship.
THE KING, ERIC WAS EVERYTHING THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL🙌THEN ROY CARRIED THE CLUB ON HIS SHOULDERS AND GUIDED THE YOUTH TO GLORY, HEROS ON A BAD DAY
The King… Absolutely emblematic for us and obviously the whole PL.
Unbelievable footballer and black belt in karate 😂😂 I’ll never forget that fly kicking the fan in the stand 🤣
"all i said was it was an early bath for you"
One of the greatest underrated players ever. Unfortunately, he wasn't lucky with his national team and never have a UCL trophy. But even without them, he still made the great. Like Roberto Baggio.
4 titles in 5 years. Thats how good he was for the team.
and now United havent won anything in 5 years lol
Eric Cantona 🤝 Denis Irwin
Roy Keane appreciates you
Almost a goal involvement in every game...didn't realise he created so many. I knew roy had a lot of time for him from reading his first autobiography 20 years ago. Eric was a strong character and a man.
I remember crying at 11 years old when Cantona retired lol.
@RICKY J I also never realised til recently that he was only 30 when he retired. Could have had many more years in him too.
Cantona is the first Elite Player to grace the Premier league 🙌 legendary
He became elite in Prem
Cantona my favourite player. What a player he was.
I remember when Man United fans used to tell Liverpool to stop talking about the past. Oh how times have changed 😂
Exactly 🤣🤣🤣
Oh the irony.
Roy is box office on sky , need to keep this man as a pundit
This team was unique, a great manager, some charismatic leaders, some young talents and they are all loyal to the club.
I am a Arsenal fan but Eric Cantona is one of the my favourite footballers outside of Arsenal.
Good stuff. Would love to see an interview between keane and cantona reminiscing on old times and exchanging stories from their period together.
Truly "Stuck in the past FC"
Just a few years ago they were bashing Liverpool for exactly that
We love Eric ,but just as much we love you You Roy...
Cantona for me was the first player back in the days to grace the premier league 🔥🔥 and the fact he retired 2 years before we won the treble in 99, shows he could’ve achieved more 💯 LEGEND.
It's a shame how he retire.
And year before France won the World Cup
@@lexkanyima2195 it's a shame how terrible man u are now lol
@@garymurphy3870 up with the top 4 tho not bad for terrible
@@silkali007 oh come on. You have been the joke big club for a long while now. Take a alot to catch up to the top 3
I was at the game at Chelsea when Eric scored his first goal for us. Standing on the old North stand at Stamford Bridge in the pouring rain. Going about 5 rows down when he scored and my Dad trying to grab hold of me!! Great days.
I was at that game too lol
Imagine how intimidating it would be for a defender seeing Eric running at them 🤣scary man absolute quality
Nobody, but nobody could perform a flying kick to the head of a supporter better than Cantona!
Real unitrd fans love you to Keano.... you left more on the fields up and down the country than any other United player
Eric Cantona was a great player. Grossly underestimated.
Cantona's goal against Liverpool in the FA Cup final, the Chip over the Gk another classic goal!
Chip against Sheff Utd in the cup and the chip against Sunderland.2 beautiful goals....Cantona looks and a chip oooohhh exquisitely done (Martin Tyler's voice)
Cantona has to be my all time favourite ❤❤
Cantona was spectacular brilliant incredible I will never forget his unbelievable proformances
Cantona , Di Canio are two of the most underrated geniuses in football , not considered as world class but still made an impact.
In October 1992 I joked with a Leeds fan in school that he signed for Utd for £3mil (said I saw it on Teletext -Ceefax- on my lunch break). To which the lad replied “no way he’ll sign for your lot” as he genuinely loved him and never shut up talking bout him. Rest is history and the look of horror the day after he actually signed. I’ll never forget it. 😂! King Eric 🔰
u must have taunted him about that for days if not weeks poor leeds galluble
Up there with the best in the premier league, he was the best, 5 leagues and two doubles in 6 years.. left foot, right foot, great header of the ball, and deceptively quick with the ball at his feet.. and he had a personality, charismatic…

I still can't believe that he retired at the age of 30/31, utd were after winning their 4th title in 5 years and he walked away, but rating cantona to the players manchester united have had, he's definitely my favourite player, the man almost single handedly won the premier league in 1996 for utd, scoring alot of winning goals that season l
Gary Neville and Sky Sports are the only team keeping Manchester United significant. This was 30 year ago.
Cantona was just like John wick, ‘he lay down the foundation of our organization that is today’
Eric loved playing with Roy gave him great service
Courage and bravery
rashford, maguire, kane saved gary neville phone number as “durex”, the amount of protection he provides
Cantona was and is the greatest foreign player in premier league history. Technically brilliant.powerful and controversial. He was the ultimate headline maker
Cantona impressed my young mind and made me love United
