Wonderful clip of a lost world. Makes me want to cry frankly, when I look around me and see how awful modern day England has become. I remember Brighton from over 40 years ago and it was a much nicer place than it is now, as was most of Britain.

Personally i think the main problem with Brighton is the conservative and racist population who believe there is some heyday to be returned to forgetting just how abusive and destructive their yesteryear was. I hear Brighton was even more bigoted back then.

Note how clean Brighton was then.

How on earth do you mean clean? You can't see the streets - the one shot i did see of the actual ground had paper littering the seafront like it always is...! I bet you liked Brighton with the contrast turned up a little higher...

just found this-I lived opposite the Pavillion in Old Steine untill I was 12 years old in 1956, this film is just how I remember the place, I was always on the beach and often went to Black rock pool, Been back a few times over the years, looks a bit run down these days.

My beloved hometown. Somewhere on those beaches will be my family!! We lived on the beach!! Brighton now is a cesspit. It breaks my heart to go in there.

Same here! I was born in Brighton in the 1950s. I've only just moved away after 66 years. It's not the Brighton of my youth.

Take off your Rose Tinted glasses 🤓 the 1950’s were perfect in some aspects but many aspects were far from perfect. My Nan raised my Mum and her 4 siblings in a crappy council house in Hatchend ( what used to be Middlesex)No central heating, no television, little or no money. My Grand parents never owned a car and my Granddad was a violent alcoholic. Hardly ideal! Stop watching old episodes of All creatures great and small and The darling buds of May so much.

@@lucaschapman2188 Life wasn't perfect then - far from it. But have you been to Brighton recently? I was born there in the 1950s, and it breaks my heart to see it now.

You’re all living in cloud cuckoo land if you honestly believe that life was better then. Or maybe if you were white and straight and Christian perhaps it was.
Brighton is not a cess pit now, how dare you diss our city like that. In spite of its problems, and yes, like the rest of the country it has some really big ones thanks to the chronic mismanagement of both the national government and the local council, it is an amazing place to live.

@@andrewallen-tidy3818 Not quite sure who you're accusing here. I love Brighton. My family goes back to the days of Brighthelmstone and the 1700s and earlier. It's because I love Brighton so that it pains me to see it decline. That isn't "dissing", that's grieving.
