The standard for movies these days has become, "I didn't hate it."

Surprised that this isn't being rated higher. Thought it was very good.

I enjoyed the book and in my opinion the movie was at the very least watchable. Emily Blunt is a brilliant actress.

I think the reviewers misunderstood what the exchange between Rachel (Emily Blunt) and Dr. Abdic meant about his accent. Rachel had been making up fairy stories about the people on her old block and, in her head, she didn't imagine the man she saw Meagan with as having an accent. So, she was surprised when the real man spoke to her. So, the conversation was important, but not regarding the plot. It was important because it showed the state of mind she'd been living in for so long. The only reality was the one in her head and she was completely disconnected from the real world.

      Kimberly Robinson except [spoiler alert]
She ends up being right about everything so she wasn't that disconnected from reality after all

Three great looking girls doing really good acting. This movie should have been rated 7 .

I think the movie was well done from a technical standpoint, but not the least bit enjoyable which seems to be a factor that's discounted a lot. The acting and cinematography were really great in particular. I didn't care about one single person, though---either during the movie or even afterwards. I did like the parallel elements between the characters, though. It made me think a lot of Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train" in that regard.

Can't wait for the new thriller "The Gone Girl On A Train, With a Dragon Tattoo, Who Played with Fire, Kicked The Hornet's Nest And Walked Home Alone At Night With All The Gifts"

I just finished watching it. I thought it was a good thriller and Emily Blunt was very good in the movie. I kind of saw the twist coming, but all in all, I enjoyed it.

    • @ZoeHewittHosting

I didn't enjoy the journey, either--I think that sometimes people discount how important it is to actually enjoy a movie. It seems to come up a lot with indies--the fact that they are "real" seems to take away from any need to actually be pleasant. I thought the movie was well done, but it wasn't the least bit enjoyable. I didn't like any of the characters at all and not having a character to root for seems like a big failing to me.

This movie wasn't terrible. The storytelling left a fair amount to be desired but Blunt's performance was good enough that I don't feel like this movie wasted my time. That said, 100% watch Gone Girl instead if you haven't seen it. Similar movie, but FAR better

  • @raqrod1606

Surprised that Christy liked the book but at least she recognized as trash because it really is not good. I didnt care about any character, they could all die by the end and that would be completely OK with me... not surprised its a bad movie.

    • @SidV101
      @SidV101 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Raquel Costa it isn't bad, just mediocre. Blunt's performance was great and the storytelling, while flawed, still kept me interested to the end

I figured out 15 minutes into Mystic River who the real killers were, and that made the rest of the movie totally uncompelling

I don't understand why Emily Blunt is rated more highly than Haley Bennett. I personally find Blunt both cold and emotionally flat - 'Sicario' and 'Edge of Tomorrow' are perfect examples that remain excellent films despite her presence. Bennett on the other hand brings some degree of complexity and subtleness to even the most cliché material. A hugely, *hugely* under appreciated actress.

      Mitchell Murray
      Nicely said Dude!!!
I honestly think its because she's English. She just really struggles to express emotion in my opinion. I don't think it helps that she is primarily playing American characters and has a *very* hard time with the accent.
You could contrast this with Rosamund Pike in the first Reacher film. Despite also being an English actress playing an American character she managed to project screen presence and human warmth.
At the end of the day though I think you are right--its always going to be a personal thing if an actor or actress engages with any particular member of their audience.

DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. Absolutely awful. The thinnest plot imaginable, the only character with development was Emily Blunt, the "reveal" was bonkers / vicious / dirty (I couldn't contain my laughter either) and so out of the blue since NO FUCKING CHARACTER was developed OTHER than Blunt's character. What a fucking snorefest of a movie. And when the "reveal" does happen, that is also the ONLY time the movie got my attention. This movie was one hell of a misfire. Sneak into this movie or get someone to buy your ticket if you watch this filth. FUCK THIS MOVIE.

I agree with how weak this film was, and most of your review. Buuuuutttt... Emily Blunt's character was clearly supposed to be American. She just didn't have the accent right 50% of the time.
