What do you think about singer fashion maker classic 298? It full fills all of my need. I know basic sewing. I had sew 20+ cloths. I think of buying my own machine. This is the only machine in my budget that full fills all my need. But I'm confused that it's old model and reviews are 50/50. So should buy or not?

I do like the machine and would put it on a treadle in a heartbeat. My beef with the Singer motor is that it continues to sew a few more stitches even after I lift my foot off the pedal. It's really bad for when you need to be very accurate with the stitching.
That Would be as a result of blown capacitor on the foot pedal.. if you can,you can loosen the foot pedal and take out the blown capacitor,then it will work fine

I have the same machine and i have problem that the machine can not sew something that a little thicker. I have not try with Jeans material, becose two times folded cotton is not possible. The threads not sewing and kept jumping. And also the upper thread cut off all the time. Really impatiently annoying for me..And the other problem the technician is very rare for this type of machine..

If what you are trying to say is that you cannot get the bobbin thread up when you have threaded the machine, here's what to check out for * Needle- check if it's bent,blunt and it's placed properly * Shuttle hook- check if it's pointed and not blunt * Needle pole
Presently I don't have the machine available! But I already did a video on how to use needle position and zigzag stitch to do buttonhole..it's on my channel here..as regards other footer,I will do a video about it

Firstly what needle type are you using.? The machine uses HA and DB needle from size 10-18 Then make sure the needle clamp is in place properly and not broken

If the zigzag is not working and the straight stitches work, then the machine needs servicing and alignment... Same with the needle going out of the foot..it needs alignment at the back of the machine, will do a video on how to fix that soon
I am using die pressed needle singer my machine flower disc was broken i call servic center they not done the needful properly so kindly teach me the zig zag adjustment and working the straight stitches good I stitch many clothes
Ok that should be the HA needle type..hope you placed the needle properly?, if not, the machine users front oscillatory mechanism meaning you thread from front to back and the needle should be placed in way that the flat side faces the outside while the round side that has a groove faces you
To adjust the zigzag, it is done on the back of the machine,I presently don't have the machine anymore,I already sold it, but if you can video call me on WhatsApp I could guide you
Make sure the zigzag disc cam is placed properly, then turn the lever controlling the zigzag to sent number of choice.. And choose stitch length of choice too
In my 298, the needle is hitting the back of the hole in the throat plate. How can I move it forward to align with the hole?

You can go ahead and buy it..check if all the features are working too... It's a decent machine

You can use both..in case you don't have the electric motor,you can use the treadle

It depends on the particular country the disc cam was made.. The one made in Great Britain has the regular zigzag stitch as no 1
How is black switch on side side ( up & down ) used.which position to keep in straight line stitch.
Needle position should be in the middle, and for straight line stitch, the lever had to be on 0..or the markings that's dotted

I think the machine needs to be serviced, and the hook needle timer mechanism needs to be set properly, that will eliminate the jumps when you sew

Even for the zigzag stitches,it uses disc cams..so if it sews zigzag,it should sew other designs

Yes the machine can . Either with disc cam or with the flower stitch foot
Bobbin thread keeps breaking any solution for that...?
The shuttle tension is too tight you need to get a screwdriver and loosen it
You can also check if the needle is bent or blunt and also check for the upper thread tension

Remove the bobbin and shuttle and needle... Then try check if there's any loose thread in the bobbin chamber
