Funny story about this hut. Four of us set out to camp at the lake near the hut, like you super heavy backpacks and all ! It was late night, we got to the lake around midnight, the hut is just up the hill from the lake. The next day we set up camp, fished and hung out sharing stories of life, we were all in our late teens early 20's, the year was 1981. The second morning a storm blew in, rain and snow mix all day, we were all miserable. We made shelters, we had no tents, and stuck it out for the night. The last day we packed up and decided to take a different route out, mind you we had no electronics to navigate, no Google to help us, just paper forestry maps and a compass. We left camp and headed East, in less than 15 minutes we came across the hut you are staying in, totally empty and full of wood for the stove. We all laughed at one another, if we would have only scouted around we would have had a warm, dry hut to escape the storm we spent a night and day in the elements. Moral of the story, always be aware of your surroundings ! Great video and where is Stanley ? He would have loved this adventure ❤
This is the best story ever! Thank you for sharing it. Wow what an incredible experience to look back on. And it’s incredible that you discovered it that way. Have you ever gone back to enjoy the hut since then? We worried about bringing him since we didn’t know who would be there/how intense the hike in would be.
I have gone back a couple times but never did stay at the hut. I have stayed at the other hut that's further North up the PCT from this hut. I go there often as it has so many hiking trails and views from the surrounding peaks. Stanley is such a good boy, I remember meeting you with him at SC when he was just a baby. @@shelbssays
You did a great job capturing this! Super fun crew for a trip like this. I think this is going to be a big year for you. You are putting out incredible content. Happy to get to share your adventures!
Beautiful footage of the mountains and clouds..I just came upon a short and that's how I discovered you.. You all have such great stamina to keep going ..Best wishes from 🇮🇪
Watching this as I stare out the window at my 9-5, wondering how I could possibly leave it all to wake up with the birds and trees and sun everyday. You rock!!!
🥹 I worked so many jobs before this became my career. All I can say, is it’s absolutely possible! And if you ever have questions about working remote/for yourself, don’t hesitate to reach out!
We are very spoiled here. I still can never get over how many beautiful landscapes there are to explore here in this state. I'm happy that I have gotten to call this place home. :)
nice I've always wanted to do a hut trip. Also another thing people should understand is that AIARE 1 is just a bare bones starting point in the lifelong journey that is being a competent backcountry user
totally recommend going next season. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Good point. AIARE 1 was such a great foundation to learn from this season. I feel like those 3 days really gave me a solid foundation to understanding how to stay safe when starting out. I'm grateful to start there and continue my education through courses and out exploring with my partners. I think anyone who pays attention taking the course would agree with you that the learning never stops.
@@shelbssays yeah and getting out and into the backcountry in different conditions and feeling those layers of snow with your ski poles, digging hand pits, and doing ECT, PST, CT, deep tap test and all these things There is no replacement for getting out there!
Enjoying 22 min so far but have to blurt....why no ID of the hut? It's Ludlow...up Miller Creek, no? No pkg at trail end so had to start at Sugar Pine Pt? Only book-burners would dun you for revealing a "secret stash." :-)
Glad you liked it! I have visuals that say the hut directly in shots. I just focused on making the video about the adventure and not the exact location. Also, the trailhead was not accessible! So we had to take a longer route
