    It's amazing to see y'all and how much your life has changed from then to now but what has stayed is your attention to detail and quality never waivers which is WHY y'all now have a big ol church for the store y'all now have because y'all outgrew the other one!
    So I just wanted to leave this here and even though I know you won't see it, the happy thoughts are still there 🤗🙏🏻 4 ✌🏼 AlWaYs

    I would recommend using a clear coat on top of the black so when you sand off the green it will minimize going all the way down to the bare wood. Looks awesome!!

Wish I could post a photo. Items I bought: extra bond; Sweet pickins Milk paint color: Red Wagon; I used a dark brown paint for the base color; and the dark oil wax instead of black. OMG, I love this idea!When we bought our 1800 farm house we found a bureau in the barn that was sooooo alligator crackled. We had a hard time stripping it so I finally found out that I could just chalk paint it and I am so proud of it now. Had I known back then that was the desired finish I would have saved my husband and myself so much trouble. You two are so inspring! I cannot waint until spring when I can get out into our converted chicken coop to work on some furniture projects that you gave me inspiration for. Chicken coop turned party house turned workshop! Works for me. Gotta get it heated, though..lol.

    AWESOME VIDEO, guys! LOVE the color, and I've never tried milk paint before, but it looks like now is the time because that's the exact finish I want on a project I'm working on.
    I just scored 21 150 year old antique doors in beautiful condition from a house that was built just before 1870, and I'm thinking about doing a TH-cam video series called "21 Doors" that will be all about how I upcycle each of them. My first project will be a coffee bar, and I want to finish it just like you did that bench, but with a chalkboard area on the upper panel. Thanks again for all the information and inspiration. I'll keep you posted as to how I make out with all those doors! ヅ

      Thanks, guys... I'll definitely keep you in the loop. BTW - Just picked up the doors and I made a happy mistake. The house they came from wasn't built in 1870. It was built in 1807 (my lysdexia kicking in again ヅ ), so they're even older than I thought. Lots of cool hardware on 'em too! >> cast iron latches, crystal knobs, and one of the doors is a dutch door. Can't wait to get crackin'!

    I have to say, I usually don’t watch these videos because the people get on my nerves. They talk WAY too much like they went to Harvard and got a degree in using chalk paint(I say chalk paint because that’s what I’ve always used), then talk in this fake voice to first tell us how they went parasailing and stumbled across this paint on vacation and how much it cost and where they picked it up from and how the cashier said it was their best seller. “I’m like dammit Wanda!!! Idgaf!”
    You were more like “hey y’all look. This what I used, this how you do it, 💥 boom 💥 the end.” So I subscribed!!!😇you’re awesome.

Lol {it has a mind of it's own. Lol} I love the way you do things because you remind me so much of myself when I'm working on something. {like when you say "you're supposed to measure it, but I don't feel like it" or something like that. That is sooooo me! ". Lol. If I mess up a little bit on something I'm like "eff it, it just adds character" lol. DEFINITELY one of a kind. Lol. I actually had one other thing I needed to ask you about but my brain.... Grrrr, makes me so mad sometimes. Lol I'll shoot you a message if it pops back up into my head. Hehe. • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Satin spray paint will do the trick. Yes, Sweety Jane is a color of Sweet Pickins Milk Paint.
      The oil wax will harden once dry and is water proof ( if you need it to resist a lot of water like a table top or counter top I would use SP Top Coat)

      I like sealers like Top Coat or Big Top for cabinets but the oil wax can be done over the top of those sealers and then wiped back for an aged look.

    So beautiful! I love this finish :) Just got a huge mirror and I'm going to try doing this to the frame!
    I do have a question for you, sorry I'm way late on this - I'm wondering if it's possible to do a few layers of different color milk paint, and still achieve the crackle effect throughout? Or is the crackle only visible on the first layer?

      +Elizabeth Tomko milk paint kind of has a mind of its own. But if you shellac between each coat of milk paint you will get good crackle throughout

    Great Technique Tutorial! I loathe watching paint dry 24hrs. so I Invest in a heat gun with adjustable heat setting speeds the project especially multiple coats of paint!

    BIG question: I did the black spray paint let it dry for 2 days. then milk paint over it to get that "beautiful crackle" and it chipped SOOO bad. what did I do wrong? No extra bond with 1st coat, chipped real bad, sanded it, used extra band for second coat and it chipped even worse :-( I am so frustrated

    Absolutely beautiful. Last week I bought a vintage desk and researching on crackle effects. I am not able to spray paint, what could be other options to give a base color to the furniture? Is milk paint the absolute best way to get crackle effect? I am seeing crackle paints in my search. TIA

    Hi Jamie, not sure if you are still answering questions on this thread. I just ordered the chalk and milk paint from you and I'm wondering if there is a certain type of black spray paint I should use? Thank you so much!

      I like a satin finish. My favorite is rustoleum. The trick is to paint it when it’s still just a little tacky not quite all dry.

    Can you just use regular paint instead of spray to still get the crackle effect

    If I wanted to do this exactly the same except with a white top coat like their Flour Sack paint (instead of the Sweetie Jane) should I still use the black oil wax?
    You’re videos are the best! Thank you ❤️🙏🏻

      Yes, BUT...I would seal it with clear wax first or Top Coat, then use the oil wax. Otherwise it may really darken your paint

    Hey Jami Ray, I am brand new to the chalk painting world. I am trying to learn all I can before I start the painting. I've got my piece cleaned and de-waxed, ready to sand then paint. From watching this video, I've learned I don't have to use the same brand of paint and products for each piece to look awesome. I was planning to use the spray Rustoleum chalk in only the areas I plan to distress, then cover the whole thing in creamy white milk paint. I didn't know about the cracking. I like that look. So, I just want to confirm with you: the paint will only crack where I have used the spray chalk paint with the white overall coating of milk paint?

      I spray the whole piece so I get a two toned look. Paint the milk paint over while the spray paint is still tacky will help it crackle and chip. This is the best method I’ve found for consistent chipping. That said, the milk paint will crackle on its own too. Milk paint often has a mind of its own and will do its own thing.

    Coming back to rewatch this video because I really want to try this!! Do you think this technique would work over a veneer? I know I will need to scuff sand the veneer a bit, but I can't get it sanded all the way down to the wood, so not sure if it would work the same. Thank you!

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it should work on a veneer. If it’s really shiny you may want to still do the spray paint step
