- This story chronicles the career of the Queens based duo Super Lover Cee and Casanova Rud. Their career took flight in the summer of 1988 with a record Called " Do the James" which had a dance to it that had hip-hop lovers going crazy. It all came to a crashing end, When Producer Engineer Paul C got murdered the stigma of his death followed the group and eventually go them blackballed.

I bought their first album. It was a solid album you could listen all the way through it. Definitely ahead of their time.

Listen Man... Thank you. These ARE my guys! I still listen to GIGEL. It Gets No Deeper, Supa Casanova, All U MCs... Cee & Rud were ahead of their time. As a young boy growing up... They were the soundtrack to my life. Their music is timeless.

These were my dudes. They lived in the building behind me in Astoria Projects. They were the most famous group to come out of Astoria. But there was another group called BBD not Bell Biv Divoe but Black By Demand. Their video is here on TH-cam.
Astoria Projects. Hardcore projects in L.I.C. It wasn't just Queensbridge. In 1986 I took GED classes there at the center.
I still rock there 🎶 can't do this mumble rap aka skinny jean trash they play nowadays. Classic hip hop right here. This makes me wish this story was a hour or few longer... love it.
My sister used to be in love with Super Lover Cee lol.
Lyricism was on MAD point in '88. Back when lyricism didn't even really matter yet.
'88...let 'im think. 'im was in Jamaica. Slick Rick. Fresh Prince & Jazzy Jeff. Dana Dane. Salt & Pepa. BDP. PE. Shinehead. Just some of the "variation" that era brought about. Respect to Super Lover Cee amd Casanova Rud. They had 'im ears in '91 with "Romeo". Salute.
This is one of the coolest albums i ever bought. I thought it was cassanova rapping til i saw a video. All the songs were dope super lover had unique style nobody copied. Good to know their story. Thx.

Their debut is an all time classic imo. Ahead of their time lyrically (Only Rakim G-Rap Kane KRS LL Cube SlickRick MastaAce EPMD were as dope as Super Lover Cee in 1987/88 skill wise and imo he was top4 ✍🏽skill wise with G-Rap Rakim Kane in 88).
It still holds up today! Timeless!
Paul C 😮💨🔥😮💨 production/engineering/mix as well! So sad he passed in 1989 (murdered) at 24 as he was gonna be a living legend! He was working with Organized Konfusion too! Would have had more🔥with OK (Pharoahe one of my GOAT emcees), Super Lover Cee and Casanova Rud, Rakim, Latifah, Ultra Magnetic MCs, Main Source, etc etc. He was such a talent! Listen to the way other all time legends talk about him from Large Pro to Pharoahe Monch to Rakim to so many others! Would have worked with so many more legends too.
PS United Skates of America in 80s was such a fun place for kids and young adults!
Paul C. was the man! If he did Ultra and Rakim, that proves it. I use to bump Ultra’s “Watch Me Now” to flex ride’s my sound system. Two 15’s and a Punch 45 BoOMin!

Great video, Super Lover and Rud are mad underrated. With the production credits I don't think the issues is not that people misunderstood what Paul did cause there from overseas, these LP's sold world wide including all over Europe, both as imports and later euro releases. I believe the issue is a result of the generation gap who's only reference point is youtube and youtube doesn't give you the credits like the wax will.
Was and still am a huge fan! Thought he could have spoke on Casanova Rud more. Hope they still cool…

Not entirely true. He did rap on "All You MC's" on the album, and more tracks on the "Blow Up The Spot" EP they released later on.
