I'm not sure about the mixer, but the software is Traktor Pro; if you're considering buying Traktor a new version (2.5) with a lot of cool new features is scheduled for release May 30th;
Dj-ing is the only art form where we shun technological advancements like the plague because we are afraid they will make us irrelevant. All you hating hipsters make the whole dj community look bad. Technology evolves and allows us to do more things with our music! why don't people feel happy about this? Aren't you happy that we can do more than just scratch and mix one song into the next!? aren't you happy that we can sample live and use tons of effects?
I couldn't agree more. Just Blaze has a great video about "progress" on the serato site under the icon piece they put out. I've been playing ice hockey at a very high level for over 25 years. That would be like hating on newbies using composite sticks, woods outdated it just is. So long as you respect the pioneers lets not shun "progress" lets embrace it. I mean we're talking about "practice... practice." lol
+Palasako YESSSSSSSSSSS! IF YOU HATIN', YOU AINT NO DJ. DJ ING IS SPREADING LOVE. SHARING THE EUPHORIA WE GET EVERY TIME WE SPIN! DJ + TECHNOLOGY = AWESOME! CATCH ME ON SOUND CLOUD. DJ nuukkinkold as Bz peace.
I don't call it a hate on technology but just a deep love for the origins of the art. Sort of like a string guitar vs electric guitar with reverb and sample pedal. The string guitar will always be considered more original and classic but one day today's technology will be old news and some people will appreciate their midi, cdjs and laptops over the new wave Hologram mixer with spacegloves & conductor Wands or reactable mixing tables.
@riveralexander34 one additional note, if you do the above: Load Song 1 - Deck A Load Song 2 - Deck B Beatmash Song 1 - Deck A Mix in Song 2 - Deck B Unload Song 1 - Deck A (beatmash continues to play) Load Song 3 - Deck A** **Beatmash BPM will adjust to the new BPM of the song loaded into the deck the beatmash came from, so be VERY cautious using this as a mixing technique.
@sp33dyj The Midi-fighter is an amzing product that you obviously don't understand. The midifighter is used with a professional dj software(Traktor) and as you can see is mainly used for effects(or whatever you program it to do). I'm not trying to be a hater/troll but it just doesn't seem like you understand what this is used for. This video was created to help people understand how to use the midifighter, That's why it has over 100,000 views.
Ean Golden! I remember when you use to be a resident at Dolce, Dragon Bar and One8One in San Francisco. Man, those were the days. Miss that city, and definitely miss your sets. You still play around the city?
For those who dont know what he's got, the two wings (Dub Pads) are by DJ TechTools and you can find them by searching "MidiFighter" in google web search.
@riveralexander34 1 thing I should note is that if u activate beatmasher & leave it enabled, it will continue mashing the same section over & over, even if u hotcue to a new section of the song, until you deactivate/reactivate beatmasher.. even if u stop the song, if beatmasher is still enabled, it will continue to beatmash, & u can continue to control the Beatmasher even if you load a new song into the deck the original beatmashed section came from. Hope this helps.
effects are determined inside the DJ program you'll be using, serato, traktor, virtual dj all have different effects and I believe they all support that mixer right out of the box. Don't drop money on midi fighters unless you plan to and know how to midi map.
Mainly depens on what software do you prefer. Traktor, VDJ, Serato etc.? As a controller Kontrol S2 is better than Ergo. Novation Twitch could also be worth checking. Getting that one soon myself.
Awsome videos. I like the way you brake it down. Thanks guys. Really inspiring me to make the transition from production based music to live "controllerism" or "DJing". I'm seeig the simplisity of alot of tekniques that i have been automating with a mouse, much more fun and efficiant to do it with physical tactile controlls. keep up the good work.
@riveralexander34 He's using hot cue points to control where in the song he jumps, and the beat immediately following that is the beat that gets mashed. try playing a song and turning on the beat masher then playing with the dry/wet on 50%, then fluctuate the amount of the effect (first knob to the right of the effect selection in traktor). you'll hear the difference, and the control becomes easier the more you play with it.
Yeah, that's basically what the headphones are for when you're mixing. Most of the controllers/mixers/whatever have a button to select which track do you want to listen on the headphones (which is different from which track is playing on the speakers, that's controlled with the crossfader), or well, in some cases a knob too..
@RueArsins Usually around 200$ with everything (Arcade buttons, case, ETC) but remember that you also need to buy the software, which costs alot from what i've heard
I usually start a loop in traktor, and progressively decrease the amount of beats its being looped for. You would need to load the same song in both decks to do this. Or use two different songs.
What was the name of that trick at the tail end that kind of slow the track down? I'm into production and I'd like to implement that in to my music. I'f you don't mind I would like to learn how to put that mapping togather
i've gotten into that stuff liek 1 month ago.. comes pretty handy like a castrated programming language. i think in your case there is no such thing link compatibility problems with that ion dj controller.
tou can use beatmshe 2 with any traktor pro 2 controller, and also the filter, but it would be more complex, i have the midi fighter classic, and i can do the kick and snare effect by only using my kontrol s2, but it takes a long time to master
@joewinmor well... instead of pressing the 4 buttons for a roll you use the effect section of the x1 to activate beatmasher and then change timing with the knob? etc.. i can't really understand you confusion.. :/
They have different models from $119 to around $300, just google midifighter. And yes this can be done in Virtual DJ. It's just a filter and the effect is called BeatGrid in VirtualDJ.
you can take their mappings off the site and remap them to a trigger finger or mpc style device if you don't want to buy one of their custom controllers and still benefit from their fx midi trigger programming into traktor
is that a MIDI controller? I been using FL and Ableton and i am tired of using my keyboard and mouse as input. I want knobs and buttons so i can get funky. I dont know what i can buy that will maximize my knobs and buttons allowing me to tweak more. Other problem i dont know what i would need; keyboard, midi controller, turntable, drum machine... theres so many and i just want to make dubstep, dirty and simple dubstep... :*( on the other hand very helpful and easy to follow, well done!
I do the same things with a Novation Launchpad. It simply need patience and curiosity for midi mapping. (mortal midi kombat will be a new release of the midi fighter? :D )
@ATSonicChronic Well said mate, thats spot on, i really 'exaggerate' my hands movements when Im DJ'ing, you need to get that feel for it! Move with the music
you need a midi mappable program/software or a midi mixer such as the featured rain, however both the mixer and the midi fighter are inputs, so =>- they go to the computer and do not interact with another.. i am sure some new technology can but it's not needed
Well @Mattsurai, over a decade ago when DJ's still used real vinyl, I went to raves every month and the limitations of vinyl meant DJ's were not able to do stuff like this. Surely I understand there is a new DJ/Controllerist emerging that if done properly can make exiting stuff by using the latest technology. Still I want 2 go 2 a rave 2 Dance and if the DJ constantly plays around with all the cool feature and his controller buttons I think it would become a very uninteresting for me the raver.
superb again...u r turning out to b my next idol man! u killed it.I have cdj 2000 nxs 2 and djm900 nxs 2 and today finally i found out the most creative way of using the onscreen slip beat cutter.Going to try it man thnkkss.
@viruscegv you just set the first button to a 1/4th loop, the second to a 1/8, etc. and the last one to a 1/32nd with another effect i dunno how its called in traktor and thats practically it.
I want to do that with my buttons with just the bottom layer coloured. Can you take the buttons off easily without damaging the product so i can spray paint the colors ?
I'm no Pro but this looks like a pretty advanced 4 Channel Mixer with 2 Midi Fighters (those buttons to control the effects) with Traktor Pro 2 running on a macbook
Can you use the filter knob (for the deck that you're doing effects on) with the midi fighter to control filter while you are doing effects with the M.F.? I wanna just get a midi fighter classic and figured it would obviously be a yes but I wanted to make sure.
hands down most helpful person in the digital dj/controllerism world
good job bro.keep up the good work.dont let no one bring you down.
I'm not sure about the mixer, but the software is Traktor Pro; if you're considering buying Traktor a new version (2.5) with a lot of cool new features is scheduled for release May 30th;

peace.
+morgan heberling To get as far away from reality because we cant stand society.
I agree. I like to use both new tech and old school techniques for best creativity.

@riveralexander34 one additional note, if you do the above:
Load Song 1 - Deck A

Beatmash Song 1 - Deck A

Unload Song 1 - Deck A (beatmash continues to play)
Load Song 3 - Deck A**
**Beatmash BPM will adjust to the new BPM of the song loaded into the deck the beatmash came from, so be VERY cautious using this as a mixing technique.
Cool things like this are why I love DJ'ing so much.
I'm gonna end up doing the same. I love how much I can program that little 64 button beauty
@sp33dyj The Midi-fighter is an amzing product that you obviously don't understand. Bravo!!! Awesome video DJTechTools. Great job Ean. Would love to see you do a video suggestions on mixing dubstep tracks: transitions, breaks etc.
@georgeo0 that is for a 1/4" foot switch input. I use it to toggle record :)
For those who dont know what he's got, the two wings (Dub Pads) are by DJ TechTools and you can find them by searching "MidiFighter" in google web search.

Thanks for this! Totally going try them in the AM.
that's some badass mixing gear man
The second track is Freestylers - Cracks (Flux Pavilion Rmx) [NSDX005] Can be found on Nu-Skool breakz 3 lp :)
its cool to see how your beat juggling techniques have improved throughout the years! really cool stuffs right there! keep up the good work!
@HoboStudios Those are MIDI Fighters :) Really awesome little tools, definately worth checking them out if you can :)
Mainly depens on what software do you prefer. Traktor, VDJ, Serato etc.?
As a controller Kontrol S2 is better than Ergo.
Novation Twitch could also be worth checking. Getting that one soon myself.

i am just in awe over the background.
Thankyou for showing me this' im going to have fun with my U-Mix Control2 Mpk49 and my E-Mu25 using every control and fader and buttton possible :)

The dubstep sounding song is Hot Fuzz by Obsidian
Mine is 2 denon s3500's, a gemini ps626x mixer and a maya USB audio interface into my laptop.
Feels so good listening to this video with the same headphone to his left!
Did anyone else notice the COLLECTION of equipment behind him?? I like it
+Trey Verkuilen oh yes, the lovely GEAR! gives me a chubby!
+Trey Verkuilen yea, he must be fucking rich
his company makes a lot of them, including the ones he's using
HE basically kickstarted Controllers mate, check out his "history of DJtechtools" video ...
@@LuminorBeats you're just a hater
Thanks Ean ! Merry Christmas

hey man you should do a tour of your studio or whatever you have got :)
@ThechosenDemon thats why its awesome, anyone can make it but those who add their own unique touch stand out. i do prefer drum and bass though lol
the coolest thing about his midi controllers is that you can customise your own on the midi fighter website.
@Sp33dyJ It still takes time and practice to do this as well. It at least isn't completely automated.
@aornela1
or midi fighter pro which costs a little bit more. You can customize your buttons on their website xP
i bougth the reloop digital jockey 2 great for beginners but are looking to upgrade soon but mine lasted for 2 years and i do gigs whit it to. :)
Just taught me more in 5 minute then hours of other videos have shown me:D finally
@RueArsins Usually around 200$ with everything (Arcade buttons, case, ETC) but remember that you also need to buy the software, which costs alot from what i've heard

This is absolutely amazing. I want one.
@QwertySkill Midi Fighter you can find them on the DjTechTools website.
@joewinmor well... instead of pressing the 4 buttons for a roll you use the effect section of the x1 to activate beatmasher and then change timing with the knob? etc.. i can't really understand you confusion.. :/
Wow, impressive. So much intellect.

Awesome Introduction!!! the analogy!!!!
ohh ok like a rubber band, im glad you used that analogy i didnt get it otherwise
I do the same things with a Novation Launchpad. It simply need patience and curiosity for midi mapping.
(mortal midi kombat will be a new release of the midi fighter? :D )
how is this guy not incredibly famous?
You are a great teacher!
@sahilsaraf01 he builds them, its a midi fighter, you can buy them custom built for like $180 on
djtechtools under the products tab
numark 4trak , insanely priced compared to the ns6 when it came out and its so quality blows my mind.
i like how that novation launchap and the vestax typhoon sits there on that shelf... sideways
that midi fighter is wicked pimp
@oele i feel like people just overuse the tools. when used correctly, it sounds amazing.
@ATSonicChronic Well said mate, thats spot on, i really 'exaggerate' my hands movements when Im DJ'ing, you need to get that feel for it! Move with the music
you need a midi mappable program/software or a midi mixer such as the featured rain, however both the mixer and the midi fighter are inputs, so =>- they go to the computer and do not interact with another.. i am sure some new technology can but it's not needed
id love to add some midi fighters to my traktor controller and traktor f1/x1 that would be so beast.
thanks for the tips! helped me out alot
The one with the words is called Cracks (Flux Pavillion Remix)
I want to start djing, the instruments that you are using, what are they called? I really like how you can do the effects on songs!
coolest room ive ever seen
Well @Mattsurai, over a decade ago when DJ's still used real vinyl, I went to raves every month and the limitations of vinyl meant DJ's were not able to do stuff like this. Surely I understand there is a new DJ/Controllerist emerging that if done properly can make exiting stuff by using the latest technology. Still I want 2 go 2 a rave 2 Dance and if the DJ constantly plays around with all the cool feature and his controller buttons I think it would become a very uninteresting for me the raver.
@oele i'd say thats the way of modern style dj-ing. Even though i believe in a difference between Djing and controllerism
This is great!. Thanks for another very informative tutorial.
superb again...u r turning out to b my next idol man! u killed it.I have cdj 2000 nxs 2 and djm900 nxs 2 and today finally i found out the most creative way of using the onscreen slip beat cutter.Going to try it man thnkkss.
It's called performance.
It also assists in timing and the emotion being conveyed.
@TheMockingborder the second one was Flux Pavillion - Cracks
"jump back out of it, into the downbeat, and of course the crowd goes CRAZY!"
sounds easy enough!
Smart great created effects.
Very nice! Want to have it!
I'm getting interested for those mixers in fact I feel like , I want play music all my life !!
i literally got a ton of goosebumps at the end of the video. Im mad jelly :)
get numark II or however it is called. it is awesmoe for the cost!
@viruscegv you just set the first button to a 1/4th loop, the second to a 1/8, etc. and the last one to a 1/32nd with another effect i dunno how its called in traktor and thats practically it.
Ima go try this shyt RIGHT NOW! lol THanks!
the one next to the laptop is midi fighter pro.
I want to do that with my buttons with just the bottom layer coloured. Can you take the buttons off easily without damaging the product so i can spray paint the colors ?
It's part of the showmanship, It's interesting for the viewer.
nice!
btw. you can do that with vinyl and a kaoss pad as well! :)
@peteftwomg It does, but you have to use the two effect knobs with beat loop and then use a filter ontop of it :)
The heavy one was called "Hot Fuzz" by Obsidian, the other one I don't know.
Cdj 2000 nxs,djm 2000 nxs,rmx 1000 is a good setup to start with.
I'm no Pro but this looks like a pretty advanced 4 Channel Mixer with 2 Midi Fighters (those buttons to control the effects) with Traktor Pro 2 running on a macbook
@aornela1
I think he has the link on some of his other videos It's called a midi fighter.
Hello Ean, wondering if u can do this using only pc in traktor pro =P it is possible with keyboard?.
thnks and great vids
Can you use the filter knob (for the deck that you're doing effects on) with the midi fighter to control filter while you are doing effects with the M.F.? I wanna just get a midi fighter classic and figured it would obviously be a yes but I wanted to make sure.
VERY helpful, thanks! Your videos are great.
how its called that kind of mixer with gaming machine buttons? it looks great!!!!
those controllers rock, arcade buttons ftw!
Get a numark mixtrack pro, great controller for new Dj's
where can i get a midi fighter those are awesome love the spring actions is that spring actions it looks like a arcade game button??? i want one
I just bought the Traktor control s2 its pretty sweet i wanted the s4 but didnt have the cash for it :/
