Finding a homeless guy to hang out with is no big deal. Hell, as a teenager over 50 years ago I often did so when I was bored and wanted to hear some possibly interesting stories. However, finding crack to smoke with a homeless guy in 1965, before it even became available, is a monumental achievement . . . respect!

Crack cocaine was entirely a creation of the decadence of the 1980s prior to that is was unknown and unheard off. People would freebase cocaine, (sometimes dangerous, ask Richard Prior) but they didnt rock it up with baking soda first. All this is to say no one was singing about smoking crack with a homeless guy in 1965.
On one hand, I can appreciate your wealth of knowledge (and/or commitment to doing some research) of drugs/drug history to be able to call out the anachronistic nature of this song… On the other hand, I have to ask the obvious question; you’re a real fun guy to talk to at parties, aren’t you?
Freebase and crack are essentially the same thing, just using a different chemical process to reach the same result. Before using baking soda it was usually done with ether (which is flammable, hence the danger) but it would be more accurate to say that crack is slang for a particular method of producing freebase than to say they're two different things.

it's easy enough to make your powder into rock with stuff from the grocery store, and plenty of coke abound in the late 1800s to the 1920s, some folks were definitely freebasing it.
Not to overanalyze it, but I don't think crack gained traction in the States until 1980. Not sure 1960s American audiences would be familiar with the term "crack." More likely they'd just say cocaine.
