More and more bridge learners are interested in 2/1 bidding which is now being recommended by more and more teachers. Even if you aren't thinking of using 2/1 bidding in your partnership, you'll likely encounter it more and more, so we all might benefit by becoming familiar with it's fundamentals.
One of the core components of the 2-Over-1 system of bidding is the Forcing 1NT. Why complicate the 1NT response?!?! If you've asked, you're not alone!
The Forcing 1NT is useful when Responder has a problem in accurately describing their hand. Let's see an example...

Great tutorial with good content well presented. I learned a lot from it.
Marla - how do you differentiate between dustbin 1NT - 6 - 9 points & forcing 1NT? how would your partner know?
In the 2/1 system, 1NT is always the forcing NT, 6-12 HCP.
@@sbpierce9987 you can play it semi-forcing as well
Why would I not force to game? I'd open this hand, and 9-card fit in trumps.
If I have a mixed raise available, this hand feels too good, and too good for the limit raise.
I hate overloading forcing 1NT with a fit.
How do you know you have a fit?
Bidding 2H with 3 card support and 6-10 points? How and when would a constructive raise come into play? I had heard 8-9 point should be 2H. With less points bid 1NT and then show trump support
Good afternoon
Marla...in a standard whats means 1 NT?
10 to 11 PTS?
In Standard American (not 2/1 system) 1NT response is 6-10 hcp
Good tutorial but I don't like 2/1 - experts may be able to handle this system but not the average player - First, the range of 6-12 for 1NT is too big so the advantage of a 2 bid over partners opening
is not common enough to make up for the extra range of the 1NT - bear in mind that the majority of the 2 over 1 bids would be made after an opening of 1 of a major - secondly, god forbid that your partner opens with an 11 point hand and a 5 card major suit ( good luck trying to stop before playing in an unmakeable contract )
For sure there are disadvantages of playing 2/1 - but it is a good system. I've actually just made a mini course on my channel for it. But I agree you have valid points.
