      @CakeoftheMews 2 ปีที่แล้ว +116

      @@dattos140 So, I have spent so long thinking about this to deconstruct every point anime dude bros throw at me. Tohru states that she and Iruru are the same age, yes. However later on, Iruru tells Taketo she's 16. There's a little whispered line that's like "in human years at least". There are several reasons why this doesn't make sense. If Tohru and Iruru ARE meant to be the same age, then she should be treated as an adult. However, Iruru is NOT treated as an adult. She is often seen hanging out with the other kids of the group, and acts like a second daughter to Kobayashi. Not only this, but she is eventually romantically paired up with Taketo, who is 16.
      So there are a couple of options here. Either A) Tohru and Iruru are the same age and they are both adults, meaning that Iruru being paired with a teenager is super creepy. B) Iruru is actually younger than Tohru and is the dragon equivalent of a teenager, in which case it's creepy how she was designed with HUGE BOOBS and is constantly sexualized. C) They are both the same age and are, in human years, 16. Which would make the main relationship of the series retroactively super gross and creepy. Or D) which is the author didn't think about any of the implications/didn't care/he DOES care and just likes draws extremely creepy shit.
      My money is on D.

      I honestly dont get that logic. You can care about real victims, but also think lolis are gross.
      Also if we are talking about catching 'real pedos' that in of itself is also a problem. Jaubrey made a video about EDP445, a content creator who is a pedo. Last year he got confronted by a group called "Pedo Catchers" and because of the video, everyone knew he was a pedo. However, the police have said it was made a little harder to charge him as the sting made the investigation more difficult.
      Ofc you should report suspected or confirmed pedos to the police, but doing vigilante justice can make things worse. Leave the real stuff to the professionals and the best you can do is report it to the authorities.

There are real life consequences for this shit, and when you see people your age sexualized and harassed and it played off as innocent or for laughs it numbs you to the real horror of it.
      When I was a teenager I though Kill la Kill was good, and when I thought about it a couple years later it was like being plunged into ice water. And I’ve spent so much time thinking about and trying to remember, what else did I enjoy have that same shit? Almost every story has weird oversexualization of minors and it’s so disheartening

As I got older I understood the larger sub-context and found that some of my favorite shows were full of toxic representations of sexual relationships played for laughs.

      Well I myself have quite a few issues with anti-SJWs, they are nothing compared to SJWs who are just a boil on the butt of humanity. They don’t do anything but whine about non-existent problems, make people feel guilty for just being themselves, and try to turn any criticism about their beliefs or ideology into being fuelled by discrimination or bigotry. Like when people reasonably criticized Ilhan Omar for what she said about 9/11 or her hypocrisy on the Armenian genocide. People tried to turn it into an islamophobic attack as well as a racist one. Or digital blackface which was already a stupid idea to begin with, where SJWs were trying to convince us that somehow sharing a Gif of a black person was somehow connected to putting on blackface makeup. Or the entirety of the critical race theory doctrine. Like yeah there are definitely some toxic people in the anti-SJW circle, but that is overshadowed by SJWs themselves who just keep complaining about race and gender. Which is why a lot of people doesn’t take things like racism or sexism seriously anymore.

    Today's weirdo anime nerds wouldn't survive the early 00's where most of the fansite webmasters, translators and general just most visible and proactive members of the "fandom" were girls. I don't think there were MORE non-men but they were more proactive and passionate, there was way less stigma about anime being a boy's club. No it wasn't a haven, people were very openly homophobic and it was normalized, and in most forums bigotry was tolerated at best, but man do I miss when there were less anime per season and there wasn't such a divide between demographics.

      to me it's weird how the fact that there's tons of female weebs is surprising to some men. despite all the extreme flaws everywhere, there's alot more eastern media with fully fleshed out female characters than western ones. the west has been getting alot better about that since the early 2010s, but before it was extremely rare to have good female characters in comparison to japanese media which has plenty. of course women are gonna love that, it's a medium that gives them tons of representation??

    Another thing bad about the anime community is the fact that it feels like people only watch Shonen and talk about it. While just talking down on people who watch and enjoy other types of anime. Like there are other good genres like Slice of Life, Romance, Science Fiction, and Sports. But it seems like if you consume or like these genres. You are seen as not a real fan or seen as someone with bad taste.
    It's frustrating to see because people that think anime should only be about dudes fighting each other or dudes obtaining cool powers and then use them to defeat the big bad. Make anime as a whole look bad. It's basically saying that anime should only follow these formulas and that to be successful. It needs to use these tropes and cliches. Shonen is good but my god. I have an... acquaintance, let's call her, who used to be one of my best friends. We've since drifted but remained civil. Relationship stuff, exes and whatnot, not relevant. However, one of the reasons why I've become increasingly more distant from her is that EVEN THO she is a trans woman herself, she uses the "anime t-slur" to describe herself and other trans women - living or fictional - and she defends it's use, dismissing how it's a slur. In addition to that -and she was already a bit like this before she transitioned -, she developed increasingly worrisome "tastes"; got into loli shit, was way too vocal about it, she got even more "edgy", started getting into anti-sjw/woke stuff, loves Ricky Gervais, and don't even get me started about race...
      I know trans people go through a second puberty when they transition due to the hormones, but this behaviour of hers is very much not OK. The one thing that sorta helps is that we live in different countries now. I think she has a lot, like, just A LOT, of internalised misogyny, but that can't be all it is. I also think that years of unchecked conditioning in the anime community did it's damage. Not to get all "mourning who she used to be", but can't say I like the person she has become. Again, sorry for all this. Not even sure what the point of this was, now that I reread it...

    It's just like Miyazaki said back in the day: "a large problem with anime is that the community of creators has become too insular and no longer draw from any outside sources".
    A lot of the best stuff is either by super old dudes or and oftentimes they're the same people people who learn from their own life experiences you have people like Miyazaki and people like Kentaro Miura who not only are old (they started in like the 80s or earlier) but they really take a lot from their own life experience or arts and history.
    Miyazaki loved looking at engineering and he took his experiences of World War II as a child and all this sort of stuff and worked it into his stories.
    Now people just use the tropes of anime and put them back into the newthey make and it's like the doomsday quirk theory from My Hero Academia; the tropes just keep piling on top of each other and getting stronger and weirder and more insular.
    And the problem is that even if the artists are building on their own life experiences a lot of these people grew up watching anime so even if they aren't purposefully doing tropes and other stuff like that they already know what anime is and what it's "supposed to be".
    There is almost no way for them to completely pull from outside of coded language of anime, as anime is part of their own life story and at that point it is very hard to completely detach the stories of the genre from the story of your life.

    I literally had to drop Dress Up Darling because me, a teenage girl, was too physically uncomfortable watching ep 2 to continue, which I don't think has ever happened to me before with anime. It sucks cause I genuinely thought the story was really interesting and like if they were college students it wouldn't have been as bad, but they're not and everyone's "best waifu of the season" is 16 with a panty shot at the end of the first episode. It's also concerning how the most popular show of last season was an ecchi about two high schoolers with an episode about a minor being measured in her underwear for 20 minutes and I barely saw anyone talk about how weird that was. I understand that Marin is very comfortable with herself and her body and that's not the problem at all because many teenage girls are;in fact I like the heroine having those traits along with being a female otaku as it's somehow very rare in the medium. The problem is that she's underage and the camera is framing her as if she's not
    Also regarding the racism (as I am also black) I will never get over how cool it is that Hawks and Mirko from MHA, two of the most popular heroes in the show, are voiced by black people, despite the incredibly stupid "Mirko doesn't sound black" discourse from a few years ago. I also love the Love Live franchise, so seeing a black girl be announced to play one of the girls in Nijigasaki was great, until the "Aryan Brotherhood" got angry at POC existing for like the 700th time. Like we watch anime too, and whether you like it or not nothing's gonna change that. There's this amazing thing that came from a situation like this where someone unironically called black people "Nightskins", which was then claimed by us cause of how sick that name is and now it's gotten so big there's even lore behind it on TikTok. It's really something beautiful made out of a horrible situation, check it out if you have the time

    Gods this video is such a big mood, it's so frigging draining having to rotate from consuming a type of media while dealing with such a toxic ass community
    And the messed up thing is though, it's not just anime that has this problem, tokusatsu fandoms suffer with this type of toxicity as well
    I remember that whole fiasco regarding Kamen Rider Revice where it was discovered about those images of Subaru Kimura doing black face and him making fun of the Mursi tribe, and there were weirdos who honestly felt people (notably black people who were rightfully criticizing Kimura's awful "jokes") shouldn't be upset that someone is being racist(??)
    Like seriously, what the fuck is up with weeaboos' obsession of trying to shut down any form of criticism towards generally problematic aspects of media from Japan?

Since in the end of the day they’re just fictional characters that can be whatever you want them to be.🐱

    • @sweethearth-d9349
      @sweethearth-d9349 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      exactly. not many people realize that cosplaying, headcanoning and editing anime characters as black/blasian/dark-skinned is not going to affect the canon source's representation it puts out - because cosplaying and fanart is not "true representation" aka canon representation. a white character will always be white even if a fan headcanon the white character is japanese because its the ORIGINAL CHARACTER'S creation. and a black cosplayer cosplaying as a non-black character doesn't not mean its bad because it's "inaccurate" because of race.
      i love how the anime community, think that black people/characters or dark-skinned people/characters whole existence is to "fix" canon, be stereotypes and to be "woke."

      i get what u're saying. there's a lot of people that don't care but there's also a lot of people that DO care about these things... even if people cosplaying, making headcanons, making fanart or making racebending edits don't claim they're "fixing" canon. hince the casual racist things people say towards people doing cosplays. hince the casual racism to people making black edits.
      people caring so much about things like cosplaying, headcanons, other things dealing with racial minorities are a reality. and the reality is still there isn't if nobody is "fixing" anything. its a reality that have cause discomfort to people. especially poc people or specifically black people depending on the fandom
