The plans for this bench are not available at the moment.
the link for the planns is not working... :(
Let us know if you fix the plans link.
I just successfully downloaded and printed the plans.

This is awesome I can't stop grinning - perfect, and guaranteed not to get covered in stuff you need to remove before doing anything
I wish such a thing existed about 10 years ago when I struggled to get my shop up and running because I kept waiting to build the perfect bench. I could have made this in a weekend and probably used it for years before doing anything else. I was working on a plastic folding table at the time!! I like it's secondary uses for anyone that has a bench already, but for someone who doesn't have a bench there are no excuses anymore.
Wow, thanks Stumpy. this is exactly what I need. Only been in WW a couple of years and 2 of the first things I built are a workbench and a crosscut sled. I built both BIG figuring I can always make small things on them but not anything larger so make it BIG. Then I recently made a small crosscut sled and I use it so much more than the big one. I realized that I have many times more small workpieces than big ones and moving that big sled off the saw, on the saw, off the saw was a PITA. So I'm really looking forward to this small bench. thanks again
Jack
Thanks for demonstrating this portable workbench to us. Made this with a circular and hand saw, chisel, power drill and plane. Don't be afraid to tackle this project without a table saw. Plans were great - kudos to Taylor Works!!
For those lefties out there, do yourself a favor and put the moxon on the right side.
I live in SW FL and total cost was minimum and bought nearly everything for this project:
Item Price
Improved Moxon Vice Hardware Kit $50
1/2 sheet 4x4 3/4" TC Plywood $38
3x Red Oak Boards 4"x24"x3/4 " $35
4x Project Knobs $10
6x Carriage Bolts 2.5" $10
4x Washer 5/16" $2
Assorted Screws $10
Total $155

I made Tamar's version a couple of years ago, and it gets used on every single project. It's so versatile and practical. I made mine from offcuts from the local timber yard, so it was very cost-effective.
Any issues using a single piece of lumber as compared to plywood?
@quidryan none I laminated some pine boards to form the bench top, and it's been perfectly fine.
Exactly what was in my head for a small table that I can bring in the house when it is cold. Thanks Mike Taylor! Thanks James!
... some don't have a workbench but just love to watch how things are done. And today, seeing you carry your clever shop with pride is the best part!
I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to be blown away but this IS actually really flippin' cool. It genuinely looks like something I both want and could probably make. Which are not usually two concepts that meet much in my crafting life haha.
As my workstation only consists of 2 saw horses with a plank clamped onto it, I might take the opportunity to upgrade. Thanks for the ideas and plans!
we have the same "workstation" and apparently we both understand it needs to change haha
These little work benches and mini work stations are a godsend. I've been using Stumpy's dovetail station design for years, and it's a real back saver and eye strain reliever.
3x3 Tamar made one of these and she used 2x10. It's a great bench. I made one for my son out of maple and walnut. I will be making another one for myself.
Nice, I have been wanting to build a bench for my 4 yr old that likes to hangout in the shop and bang on things.
That B roll of you carrying it across your shop is pretty funny. I hope more people appreciate that!
And the bench looks great! Thanks for sharing, sincerely.
You are the king of advertorials! Every one is worth watching.
This looks cool, I used to have a large shop and built custom shuffle board tables but after many back surgeries I’m in a tiny shop with a Harvey T 40 but a small bench would be a great addition.
There are many versions of this type of mini-workbench. However, I really like this one for it's portability & function! Good one SN! 👍👍🔨🔨
Great portable workbench. Thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, happy and healthy.
I'm going to build this with my son when he comes home from college; it will be a great addition to his apartment. 👌🏻
What an Awesome little bench design! I have very little space and often wind up working outside as I have way too much stuff in my small garage. I had come up with a basic design for a bench that'll fit under my metal working bench along the wall based on a few of yours and others videos on you tube that I'll be able to wheel outside instead of using saw horses to work on. I think I just found how I'm going to do the top. Thanks heaps gaining permissions to share others ideas as well as your own and for mentioning other interpretations of the same design. It really helps when coming up with plans to make things that'll suit my needs.
Hey man, I keep having to come back here and thank you for your content. Well, consider this a blanket 'thank you' for all future content. I started building this and realized how much of a blast I was having this morning. Great plans explained well.
This is perfect for my smaller projects and my on the go jobs. Love you and your awesome videos Stumpy Nubs🤩
What a great idea. Thanks for sharing and love Taylor Tools have ordered many things from their after watching cool tools.
Thanks for the look at the mini bench, James. 😃😃😃
Great little site workbench, I'll make a couple little changes but I'm definitely going to make one of these.
Great video James, thank you for making it! Love these types of presentations. 🥰
And thank you Mike Taylor! I love buying tools from your company!
That looks fantastic!! simple compact versatile
Now this is an excellent idea. Well done!
Well that’s the best Stumpy Nubs video yet. I love everything about this.
Glad you mentioned you aren’t the first. I was going to say this looks incredibly familiar - it’s in my saved videos! Your version looks great though and I like its plywood instead of laminating dimensional lumber.
That is brilliant. Making one this weekend.
This is a great idea! Thank you for sharing.
Fabulous! Just solved my Christmas gift idea mind block.
Great piece of kit for young apartment dwellers.
After my current project round of projects I do believe I'm going to make this. Thanks!
Amazing content, I'll get a lot of application out of this.
I like this idea a lot. I have had a Moxon vise build on the back burner for what must be years now. Mainly to lift the workpiece up to where my aging eyes can see what I am doing. I'm looking at your bench dog clamps with the integral handle. I can see that you can arrange things so that the bar overhangs the mini bench, but I like the Chinesium version with 8mm or 100mm hex heads along with a ratchet spanner. They virtually give them away charging just a few dollars complete with the ratchet spanner. It obviously makes them more versatile because they can be used anywhere on the bench without the hassle of moving the bar every half turn.
Vraiment bien . Merci 🎉
Thanks! This is something I need in my garage (shop)! I'm so very glad I am a subscriber to your channel!
Thank you for sharing. I’m tall and sometimes it’s really hard on the back
Great project, thanks!
i have loved the idea of this kind of small "bench" ever since i first saw adrian preda's low workbench (which is basically the smaller, fancier version of this) and of course the 3x3 custom one
Adjust-A-Bench is the best solution! Sturdy bench, move to top level for detailed work, mid- level todo standard work, and lower level to do assembly table work and every level in between to get the right height for any job!!! I have enjoyed mine for 14 years it’s fantastic!
That's a great idea. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
My "homemade" mini-workbench is a folding saw horse (4 × 1.5" board with folding steel legs) from Bunnings (AU wannabe Big Box /Lowes) with a 10 × 2" timber stair tread screwed to top. Less than $50 and 5 minutes to assemble. Job done
Looks like a pretty good idea, James! I may try to make one! Thanks! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks for sharing that
Love the OG style content! Is there another cool router table or fixture coming next!? One can hope.
I cannot tell you how much I need this! I find myself working in a depressingly tiny space with only a folding Worx Pegasus worktable with no vice. As soon as I can earmark an afternoon, I'm definitely putting one of these together
I have the same work table and also no vice. The bottom side of the table doesn't hold vertical clamps well. They frequently slip off. The table could have been designed better to solve both these deficiencies. I like this Game-Changing Workbench. But actually I would rather just buy one. Any entrepreneurs out there? Reply to this message.
@@JustSayN2O - I've found if I extend the jaws of the clamps to their limits on both sides, slip them into the brackets on the diagonal cross braces and then give the handles a squeeze or two, the jaws cinch up against brackets and stay in place while the bench is in storage. Hope that helps you out
Great idea, and affordable too. Thank you for sharing!
That looks like something I've been looking for.
Have to give you credit for pointing out that you weren’t the first TH-cam video to make this design. I watched the other video a couple years back and thought it was a really good idea, just never got around to building it. Looks like this is the sign that I need to.
Tamar from 3x3 Custom is the other version, which was referenced. Besides being built from construction lumber, an alternative to James’, Tamar also spends most of the time on the building process for those who would like that detail.
I followed Tamar's detailed video and built one. I love it. I don't have space for a full sized bench, and this fits the bill very nicely for the average woodworker. The bench top has stayed flat and true so far.
@@mehill00I wish he specifically called out Tamar. Her channel is awesome and there's a reason why she's the Queen of Jigs.
@@BenWolkWeiss I was a little surprised he didn’t name her, but maybe it was oversight or something (or maybe there’s a link I missed). That’s why I figured I would include a comment. I love Tamar’s videos. (James is a very patient, clear communicator with content I greatly enjoy too.)
@@mehill00 as brilliant minds think alike.... I guess Mike was the one James saw....and he was referring to Mike (who offered the plans for free) ... so... there's that....😊
With a couple of minor changes my wife could use it for her crafting. That way she would leave mine alone. Seriously though that looks like a really nice addition to a workroom.
I liked your jaunty walk into the shop with the new bench under your arm!
Love the idea, I turned my split top saw bench to into a portable bench, you have me the saw bench idea YRS ago. One the reasons you my boy blue
A low bench like that is also great for hand sawing down on the floor. A knee on the work to hold it steady and you're at a great angle for sawing.
Thanks for sharing James, such a cool idea. Fred.
Great bench nubs thank mike for the free planes
I built my main workbench using moxson vice and wagon vice hardware from Taylor Tools. 1 on diagonal corners. It's versatile
Another great video MR.NUBS
Very cool!
The proud walk with the mini bench. Like a King.
I'm getting on a bit and last job I did was replace the screen in my screen doors. Being bent over at the waist put a strain on my back. I ended up putting two wheelie/otto bins together to bring the work height up, so I wasn't hunched over so much.
Think I've been inspired but will just make the top and raise the legs on my current bench.
Might make a video of the build and post it to my channel and direct people back here for the plans...Don't hold your breath people. I don't post often, editing the boring bits out is a pain.
Has anyone had problems with the link for the free plans? Every time I click on it, I get a message saying it cannot find the page.
Very nice! - thanks - Perfect use for some of the left overs of free ikea tables & coffee table tops, legs and sides from Next Door I can't bring myself to toss after using the bulk to build drill press & band saw stands. The standard Ikea glueup tops are stable, and good for Matchfit clamp grooves all around. I think it does want inserts and star knob/screws instead of a wood screw for securing the stringer. [no, I can't leave well enough alone ... lol ]
pain in the butt trying to download these plans. like the design.
And very likely will get that diamond system soon
I have the jay bates/Tamar 3x3 version but with the other work holding option and was just about to build the traditional workholding version. Absolutely need to look into this ply version. Would love to see a build video
I used to have a similar sized little table that could be set on top of a single saw horse. I used it for an outfeed table/finishing table/whatever. I would've kept it if it and those old sawhorses were collapsible or more easily stored like this one.
Oh my, I know what I’m building next
This might just be my next project. I have an old Sjöbergs bench, and that is quite low for some tasks.
Stumpy: "I'm taking mine camping in a couple weeks." The workbench: "Um, you're bringing firewood too, right? Right?"
Awesome
sweet!
Put a couple dog holes in the MAXON vise moveable part.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Great minds...and all that 😂
oooh, I WANT that!!! :D
"I'm taking mine camping"
"The family is very jealous!"
Had this video come out before the portable Moxon vise, I would have built this instead. So now I need to decide if busting that vise up and making this is worth it. And if there were a little tail vise on this, it would be even handier.
The little adjustable bench dog acts like a tail vise: lddy.no/134w4
Just found this video and tried to get the plans but get a 404 error. Are they no longer available
I like the design, it's a good "bang-around" Benchette. But where should you put a root beer spigot? That's the only thing I see lacking. Good video.
Cool 😎
Love these vids!
What did you guys use for the hardwood?
... Well, I have a new project now.
If I wanted to make this free standing with longer legs, do I need to do anything more than make the legs longer? How well would it stand up to hammering (say, when doing leather work)?
Damn you James for giving me more ideas! ❤
@StumpyNubs and Taylor works.
I'd love the sharpening system...unfortunately it's too expensive
I love this the bench, only downside is that taytools practically only ships in the us. The kit is super affordable and I wish I was able to buy it. Cheapest one in my area I could find is more than three times the price.
Genius!!! I will make one.
Built the original several years ago. Once you have this bench you will have several different options with it
Thank you for another terrific video. The link for the plans seems to have an error. Is there a new link? Thank you.
Do you have another link for the plans? looks like that one is broken now
Great idea I will make one for Grandson. Julien
Do you have to manually pull the moveable jaw back when loosening the Maxon screws? I think I can see how to recess another washer on the inside face with a pin through a hole in the screw..
Looks great. Now, how can I secure it to a pickup tailgate without damaging the tailgate and with drop down leg supports to support it to the ground and prevent the truck's suspension from wiggling. This way I can roll up with it in my 5'6" bed, drop the tailgate, secure it, and then get to work on a job site. Now I bring saw horses and a few planks but that is not secure.
I have made plenty of jobsite benches out of ply and 4x2 in my work as a woodbutcher/ carpenter,I have made vices using 2 T tracks fixed parallel and horizontally with extra 4x2 as needed, just like your vice,Dog holes dont work so good on ply so I screw ply scraps directly to the benchtop as needed using wedges to tighten the work, yours is good and cheap, mine is just cheap! but I cant invest more time and resources on a bench that will likely get trashed or stolen or buried under material by another worker
Any thoughts of 20mm x 96mm VS 3/4" x4" grids?
Plans/links are all for 3/4", which I have drill bits for. And I can see the links to 3/4" accessories. But is 3/4" going to good solution in the long term? Aren't most workbench accessories sized for 20mm seen on a MFT tables?
Thanks James! Great vid.
Any comments on using MDF for.the top?
You could do that if you want. But plywood holds up better if you get it a little wet.
@@StumpyNubs thanks James!!
Is there a build video?
How does the 3/4" ply work with the dogholes and specifically hold-fasts? Is it sufficient or would you suggest gluing/screwing another 3/4" section below it if you wanted to use holdfasts?
Works great with all the accessories I tried, which you can see in the video
@@StumpyNubs fair dues! And thank you for replying. The internet doesn’t deserve you but we appreciate you
Do you think MDF would work for this? I know it would be heavier but I already have it and would need to buy the plywood. Would the MDF stand up to having the dogs taken in and out. Thanks.
For the top? It should.
Any tips on drilling those dog holes straight?
Drill press. Or one of these: amzn.to/3A6uZVQ
HELP! I need a question answered. If you are using a Harvey Pro Compass Miter Gauge is the not equal to using a crosscut sled? I have added a front hardwood sacrificial face board to the front of my miter gauge. The end as you know is cut at a 45* angle for angle cuts. I can remove this at will when cutting at an angle. My saw is the Saw Stop CTS because it’s smaller and I work in my wheelchairs. I just need to know on the sled. I just mounted my CTS on a Kreg bench and ordered the 20” Harvey extended roller for my table with a custom Formica top that lifts on and off the new roller assembly. Thanks for your advice.
