fix a “garden sprayer” that WON’T pump up pressure (don’t throw it away) EASY FIX

  • Just because a garden sprayer stops working doesn’t mean you should throw it out and get another one. The same thing is going to happen to the new one. These sprayers need maintenance. Once you understand the concept of how to fix these you’ll probably be picking these up on the side of the road when other people just threw them away. The amazon links for silicone grease or a new sprayer are below...
    silicone grease: amzn.to/3vMyTgF
    1-gallon garden sprayer: amzn.to/397dyqD
(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. In other words, I'll get a small percent of whatever you buy from them. COSTS YOU NOTHING. Thanks guys!)

You are so correct, lubrication is key to smooth pumping action. 😉

That was an easy fix and you just saved me $50 or more. I was about one day away from throwing my sprayer away and heading for the hardware store. And I didn't even need any new parts or materials to fix it. Thank you very much!!

Most of the $30 +/- price range have a few negative reviews on Home Depot, Lowes,... And they mostly complain about pressure problems. Thank you very much for your service.

Awesome. My fix was even easier - the rubber two way valve (that I didn't know existed!) had dropped off and was sitting at the bottom hidden by the opaque weedkiller. Popped it back on - job done. Thankyou!

Glad the video helped.Since you mentioned spraying down the weeds, I found that high concentration of salt in water does an amazing job of killing the weeds. In the past I’ve used stuff like round up. I wasn’t actually expecting it to work but I thought I might pass on that information, it’s cheap give it a try.👍👍

Thank you! I just got mine and was looking at the maintenance section and was so confused about how to release the locking collar. I wanted to see what it looked like while it was new. My new unit has a ton of lubricant on it! The instructions say petroleum jelly is ok. Also, thanks for showing how to reassemble it - also not obvious from the instructions. Great video - this is a keeper!

Awesome video. I have a sprayer that I bought several years ago that has some nice features. It crapped out a few days ago. It quit pumping air into the tank. I purchased a new one it broke within 5 minutes of taking it out of the box. I ended up taking it back the next day. I found this video today. Within 5 minutes my old awesome sprayer was working again!

Thank you so much for this video! I'd just received a Chapin sprayer from Amazon and it would not hold any pressure if I moved the pump handle side-by-side at all. I'd hear it burp the air out. I'd taken it apart and found your video and decided to lube it. There was barely any around the rubber ring and none under the valve. I had only petroleum grease but I decided to do it right and bought some silicone grease. I didn't want to worry about the rubber getting eaten away over time by petroleum grease.
    Anyway, it works perfectly now!

I'm an old guy that was raised poor and in the country so we learned early to repair things and make them last. I wish there was a high school class now that taught kids to be resourceful and make basic repairs on things like this. They might actually realize that they could save enough money to live a better life by not trashing things or paying somebody too much to do their repairs. This repair takes less tthan 5 minutes and it saved $20 plus the time and effort of buying another one.

Good information. I would like to share my experience when my sprayer failed to pressurise the bottle because the one way rubber valve at the base had perished because of the home made eco friendly weed killer I was using. This was vinegar, salt and washing up liquid which works as a weed killer. The rubber just distorted and went misshapen failing to make a tight seal. I replaced the seal and all ok now. Thanks.

I'll try it with the screw driver to see if that works. I don't have a tool with a hook so I'll need to figure out that part. I only have silicone oil that I used for treadmill belt, and I'll try that to see if that works. At least I see a future for these 2 canisters. Cheers and happy 2024

I’ve picked out of the trash at least 12 hand pump sprayers. As long as the tank wasn’t broken, the hose and spray handle are there and the hand pump isn’t missing any parts.,’I performed this same procedure and reconditioned every o-ring with silicone grease. All the bottom one way seals on each pump became hard and not very pliable. I gently removed each one way seal. Lightly sanded the bottom of each pump with lite duty scotch bright. Applied silicone grease on the hand pump’s bottom and the one way seal. It took a few days for the one way seal to soften. I kept 4 hand pump sprayers and gave away the others 8, that I rescued from going to the landfill, that all function perfectly. If I see anymore hand pump sprayers in the trash. If the tank I will take them and recondition the seals. I also purchased a dozen O-rings. Of two different sizes. each of O-rings for the inside of the hand pump’s O-ring and for the seal that goes around the hand pump to seal it to the sprayer’s tank. From Temu for under $5.00 that will fit most hand pump sprayers.,
