I live near Washington D.C. and there are people from all over the world here. At the market you will hear many languages spoken. Speaking multiple languages is a sign of intelligence and dedication. I would love to visit Shanghai one day!

I know it is double standard. If a Chinese person speaks poor English, he is looked down upon immediately. If a foreign speaks any reasonable Chinese, we are totally surprised and shocked. The tide is however changing quickly as mandarin is becoming a global language in business and marketing. Foreigner who can really speak good Chinese will have a huge advantage in many industries.
Good to know that it's hard to learn Mandarin language if ones in Shanghai. I keep thinking if I send my daughter there, she would pick up very fast. I have to reconsider other provinces. Thank you for the video
in malaysia, a reverse thing happens . Foreigners would never ever need to learn Malaysian national language because our natives here would automatically speaks english to these people no matter the foreigners request or not. Some foreigners even prefer to learn mandarin as the communication tool to do business here.

in fact, the locals don't speak mandarin all that well. young ones get a good foundation in school, but hear the local dialect from the oldies. same problem as the french have with parisian and local dialects.
My uncle worked in Cisco for a long while… in Bay Area, then worked for another company afterwards. That Cisco nerd had no such great amount of time to learn Chinese, I guess. Because he must face computer almost everyday.

I believe that only Shanghai city contains all individuals who come from all over the world and speak different languages can survive there very well even though their Chinese isn't "pretty good." That is why teacher Mike has decided to settle down in Shanghai rather than in other cities eventually. :)
Ha ha, Shanghai is sort of international city as many locals know English. Foreigners living there do not have pressure to push their Chinese speaking level higher. Forgive my Chinese way of English !😂

每次看麦克老师的视频总是感觉很舒服，广告也感觉做的不是那么急功近利的样子。希望能多多拍摄在上海街头的各类采访。
麦克的视频风格很自然，和很多视频主相比较属于偏上的水平。虽然广告时间略长，但是为了家庭事业勤奋工作的人值得赞扬。
来北京看看住在这里的外国人会中文怎么样。大部分是认真的汉语学习者。当然还有很多外国不会说普通话，但是我认为北京比上海有多会说中文的老外。我们中的许多人门来这里学习标准的普通话，因为我们知道在上海学习普通话会更加难的（因为上海有更多会说英语的中国人）。我是美国的，我的HSK水平刚刚过5级的（还有语法的问题但是口语已经流利的）。我也有一些朋友也能说一口流利的中文。采访我们吧，我们比上海的好。哈哈
来北京的外国人一般学者记者或者外交官吧?所以工作性质会学习中文。但是上海的老外感觉从商或者说单纯旅游生活。

在上海北京这些大城市不会中文没太大问题的，不过如果老外去小城市出差或旅游，不会中文当然不会饿死，但会一些基本会话的话可以帮你有一个更好的体验。
昨天我从店里刚买了柠檬茶出来，看见一个国外的妈妈带着她的小女儿，估计也想买，看着餐牌一阵子估计看不懂就走了。。。。

北京老外普遍比上海老外中文好。

麦克老师的视频总是很正能量。
懂多點中文的話可以讓他們在中國的時間裡有更多的回憶，但若不會的話也還好，語言這東西勉強不來的，如果真的文化吸引人的話自然就會有人高度的投入，若不夠吸引人本來就會很自然的少人參與。例子之一是蒙古，只有兩百多萬人使用，加上科技水平…應該說各個領域都差不多，沒有什麼特殊的，還有商業活動也不夠多價值太低，所以想學的人就很少；另一例子是菲律賓！我在菲律賓工作了近兩年的時間，他們的文化就較低，遇到那麼多長住那裡的外國朋友甚至有聯姻的，大都只能講上幾個簡單的單字而已，沒有人會想要去學習他們的語言。其實那些生活在上海的外國人也是一樣的，別以為是中文不好學的關係，如果文化夠吸引人的話他們就會投入非常多的時間和熱情的在學習，之所以講的不好很單純的就是覺得興趣不夠濃而已，而麥克老師娶了中國妻子和做語言教學的，兩者並不相同。
菲律宾还是不太一样，菲律宾有英语国家殖民史，更接近香港这种有相当比例英语人口的地方，旅居的外国人用英语很容易跟当地人沟通，不学习当地语言也很正常；在大陆台湾的话多多少少还是得学一点中文才能更好地生活，也算是环境逼的
上海很多外國人，感覺上比我這裡可能還要多。早幾年我也到了上海，住了一個月…。😊
最不適應是我不懂過馬路…（把我嚇死…車總是來自四面八方的）。眼看很多外國人個個很適應自如。😊 又遇見很多友善的本地人，我去什麼什麼美術館之類時，找不到要問路時，很友善還帶埋我去。😊
我沒去森林公園…原來安排好，天氣不好，沒去…最後離開上海前都沒有去…😩。

三岁起就生活在上海的十三岁小朋友太遗憾了，本来有机会让中文成为第二母语的
主要是她的父亲是荷兰人，母亲是印尼人，家庭里的语言环境制约了她。
身为生活在海外的华人 非常感同身受在语言文化完全不同的环境里生存的情况。
希望再看到全国各地老外的中文采访，希望可以多问一些问题，比如中文水平不好的时候在中国遇到的困难，或者在当地是否真的有融入这个文化氛围🤩🤩
我姐夫是欧洲的在上海几乎不会中文生活很开心，至于说融入文化氛围几乎不可能，外国人在中国以及中国人去外国都可以生活很开心但是不太会真的融入也没必要真的融入吧

刚到上海的时候，一个印度人拿着手机，里面写的做1号线到哪里，他直接拿给我看...从小长大的地方以及大学见过不少老外，所以没啥，该指路指路，PS我听得懂上海话，给不少上海老奶奶指路，当然用普通话回的，我的浙江话未必他们听得懂。
这些老外不太会中文的根本原因还是，吸引那些高端老外来中国工作的机会太少了，基本都是什么教英语的，教英语的我还学什么中文。但是想要其他类型的工作的话，不会中文就没法很好沟通了。
应该是因为高端老外在资本主义国家过得比较好,毕竟都高端了,收入肯定不低,在那种资本主义国家有钱人过的日子比较好.
所以要如何吸引高端老外来中国?只能是提供比国外资本主义国家更好的生活和环境才行..
恰恰相反，越是高端的工作机会老外越不需要学中文，因为周边人都会英文，根本原因还是对他们太优待了，派出所，移民局，各种各样的办事处，都有会说中文的工作人员，舆论也是以能用英文帮不会中文的老外解决了问题为热点做宣传，试问这样的环境哪还需要老外老老实实学中文呢

Very nice video. I think you should interview more foreigners in Shanghai before you go to other cities, like Guangzhou, Yiwu, Shenzhen etc.
在日本几乎所有的外国人都能说流利的日语，因为日本人不会迁就他们是外国人而说英语，可能日本人的英语水平也不怎么样，但更多的是因为外国人到了日本就会产生认同感，积极学习日语，即使日语甚至比中文更难，因为有敬语。
😅没可比性，和日本差多了。
我相信越南的老外会越南语的也少
现在对英语课外教育出台了很多政策，对麦克老师有影响吗。
对外教的具体细则没去看，猜测需要任职证书，我儿子4岁上外教，如今十年了，过程中最大的问题就是机构老师流动性，对孩子心理是有伤害的
老外喜欢说“马马虎虎”=中国人喜欢说“just so so”😂😂😂 其实都是双方比较少用的。 我觉得大家比较倾向于说“还好，一般，还行”
