    I love stretchy chords! I don't love them because they look cool but because they open the guitar to more pianistic like voicings. Jazz guitarists John Stowell and Randy Vincent got me into these type of stretchy chords. Thanks for sharing this great exercise.

  • @himynameisfin
    @himynameisfin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I purchased your TLOU2 melody thinking it wouldn't be too bad coming back after a decade hiatus from really playing. Having a moderate level of playing prior I thought it would be fairly doable as it's mostly lower on the board, but realise it's still harder than I thought to get some of those stretches. Also I could be wrong but the tab didn't indicate which chords I should be learning / using so I was maybe not using the most practical chords while doing it.
    Anyway, I decided to search up how to do stretches and yours was the first video that came up, so thanks for that. Now that I'm past that intro (bit of a departure from your soulfull playing) I will absolutely try this and check out your other tutorials, so thanks for that.
    You probably aren't going to see this on a year old video, but if you do. Would you recommend learning Aeirths or Tifas theme first as the easier option?
    I'm assuming Tifas as I'm not sure what the technique you use on Aeirths that is fairly fast sounding, but it looks complex. Tifas has some pretty tough high parts near the start though which I really struggle with. I've never tried fingerstyle before but it's a dream to be able to play these.

    Hi, I'm new to guitar. Is fretboard freedom completly free? And what do I learn from it? And what can I do to improve my own fingerstyle arrangements?

    • @BeyondTheGuitarAcademy
      @BeyondTheGuitarAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, completely free. It teaches you how to build any chord anywhere on the fretboard - which helps you improve your fingerstyle arrangements by giving you the freedom to accompany your melodies with different chord voicings no matter where the melody travels across the neck, rather than being stuck having to rely on the chord shapes you've just memorized

      Yamashita's arr. of the Chaconne keeps the horrendous stretch from Segovia's transcription, unfortunately for my left hand. And sassy Sam Griffin throws some weird left hand killers into a whole bunch of his arrangements 😂

    • @Jasper_the_Cat
      @Jasper_the_Cat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guinga has some stretchy stuff, e.g. in 'Desacompanhado' there's a stretch with 2 frets between the 3rd and 4th finger with the ring finger on the 4th string 6th fret, and the pinky on the 5th string 9th fret. Only way I can get it is moving my wrist out and angling my wrist/hand so my index, middle, and ring are angled towards the headstock, and with the thumb at the bottom tip of the fretboard.

    the 12,11,10, 9 check... 12,11.10, 8 check... 12,11, 9, 8 Oh crap... "Delta one command we are having problems"... 12, 10, 9, 8 .... OMG I cannot hardly do it trying to focus on weight not strain but its almost impossible for me to do moving that third finger while keeping that pinky there. I can do it but but pinky is pulled from center of its fret on 12 to edge of the its beginning fret on 12. This is with alot of focus and very slow even. It seems the movement of those fingers more than the stretch is what is killing me I mean I have huge hands if I anchor on my first finger I can reach with pinky up to 5th no strain at all. Then with some strain but not bad I can reach 6th fret with pinky on Taylor 214 CE acoustic that I own. So it seems to be control and movement as I can shift hand and get all those positions easily but to do like in video I really cannot do it worth crap. should I just stay there and practice that some each day? 2-5 mins once or twice a day(morning evening perhaps)?

  • @roscmon

    This exercise makes me feel like I should give up. I can't even get my index finger to move to the next fret from the starting position. I can't even take the first step. It's so depressing. I'm trying to find a way to spend my time so I can find some kind of pleasure in living. And I can't even get my first finger to make the first move.
