    To reverse rotation is enough to connect supply to other side of capacitor.
    Delta config ports from left:
    1 - power (live), 2 - power (neut.)+ cap, 3 - cap = left rotation.
    1- power (live), 2 - cap, 3 - power (neutral) + cap = right rotation.
    If configuration was changed to star You weaken motor substantially because lower voltage on winding section.

    When the motor is running, use a meter to measure the voltages between the windings. Change the size of the capacitor to achieve similar values between windings.
    Incorrectly sized capacitors can cause high voltages and damaged windings. When you have balanced the voltage across windings, like Jean said, it may be necessary to switch in
    an additional capacitor to provide sufficient starting torque. Like Tamas said, motor will not achieve its rated power. I need to check how this modification will effect RPM.
    Leave the terminal links in delta as at the beginning of the video. Just move neutral to the other side of the capacitor to reverse rotation.
    As per A I Reid below - use an inverter for best results !

    interesting and verry usefull , i have a drillpress that i need a new condensator for this makes it easy to find the right one
    a few things i wonder about , does the voltage in the country matter when it comes to the amount of micro fahrad needed ?
    and if i have a 16 amp fuse at 220 volts i can use about 2500 watt safely (70 percent) without the fuse blowing as soon as you get a peak current draw at startup , will the wattage of the three phase motor be the same with this setup as it would in 3 phase or increase ?

    If you need to run a three phase motor on single phase, get an inverter drive. This is an effective way and you will not lose any power as running on just single phase does. You get the extra benefit of speed control and inherent overload protection.
    While the above will run it's not good practice.

    He just wired it wrong for reversing that motor, it will work but half the power of the other direction because he wired as delta for one direction and star for the other, the wiring is the same before but swap the phase and capacitor connection, now you have reversed the motor with the same torque, the capacitor value is approximately 8uf for every 100 watt of motor power, eg 60uf 1hp or 750watt motor.

    • @josedelfino3331
      @josedelfino3331 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are running in two phase. Cause your motor is 3phase. One phase is missing. Running this motor continuously, you will cause overheating and burn the motor winding. That is why you need this capacitor to compensate the missing phase in order to assist the missing phase voltage supply to the motor, and ease the torque rotation of the motor.

      Hi Naufal
      If the motor is making a noise as if it wants to start then it might be the capacitor that is faulty.
      It does not need to be charged. It either works or fails.
      It might be the motor as well. A coil that fails can cause a motor to stop working completely.
      If you're lucky it could just be a loose wire...

    1 important thing that you have to know : If you convert a 3 phase motor by means of a capacitor into 1 phase, then the power of the motor will be reduced to approximately 1/3 of its 3 phase rated power. If you want to load this motor up to its original 3 phase power then the motor will be damaged (slowly burns), so you have to reduce the load on the axis of the motor to 1/3 power. Or else use an Inverter for your 3 phase motor but in this case you have to convert your motor into delta connection because the inverters from 1 phase to 3 phase unable to make higher voltage than theirs input voltage (it is equal to the rated voltage of 1 of the 3 coils of your motor).

    Yes, correct, you can drive a 3-phase motor using a Capacitor like that. . . . BUT the value of the Capacitor will only be correct for one size of motor and also for only one specific speed or Power output on that motor.. . . These days, it would be better to get a VFD drive unit, which can change single-phase to 3-phase.

    Well this achwelly workted and saved me 100 quid altho the motor workted perfectly in the first configuration (delta) but in the star configuration for reverse it workted but lackted aney power and ran verry slow

    I did this on a larger motor but the capacitor started blowing out a white smoke. Do you know why this might happen and also do i always need a capacitor?

    Star connection will give less torque - the function of star and delta is with respect to the line
    voltage/ motor rated voltage or using star/delta soft starting on 3 phase.

    • @pipermania8732
      @pipermania8732 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct . It's that easy but he isn't aware so he changed the connection to star, which also changes the motor to a higher voltage thus causing it to loose considerable power though it's reversing . The last part of his video is wrong .
