    Well done on the video John, beautiful looking river, hard lines with the lost fish and the wet foot! Not that easy to find good waders these days, I've got some dunlops which are ok but the waist , all in one neoprene style probably best way to go. Look forward to next one!

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Derek. The neoprenes are good, just a bit too hot for me in summer, I'm looking at some breathable stocking foot waist wader options from a few manufacturers. Hopefully whatever I pick next will be better. The prologics looked to have a faulty seam where the boot was glued, shame as they were nice and light.

    Been heading out to the YDAA section a few times since last year, always find the fishing quite tough on the Derwent. Usually fish feeder for chub (and barbel) but not tried float, looks like that might be the way to go to get some more fish!

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes definitely, I struggled with the big ones on that setup though, up there you need 12lb line and 15lb braid hooklengths to get the barbel out of some of the swims - got cut off on bed rock a few times. it fishes best for barbel with a bit of extra flow and colour in if you're going static baits.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went in to that from the car park and then under the bridge - easier than crossing the road as it was so busy with coast traffic. Otherwise you can go through the picnic area where the old mill was and walk round the flood wall. I think it's free down to the viaduct bridge on the left hand bank.

    Hi Job . My first watch of your channel. Very enjoyable ! I notice you dont have a swivel on. How do you get on with double caster twisting the line when you retrieve? Ior is it that you have 5lb line straight through that negates line twist ?

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a partly to do with the 5lb floatfish line fished straight through but also the fact I only used the Abu closed face with the stick, the gearing and therefore the retrieve speeds are low no matter how fast you wind unlike on an open face match reel with say a 5:1 ratio.

    • @tonymariner5519
      @tonymariner5519 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HOOKEDFishingChannel ok. I thought it might be related to the 5lb line. 90% of my stick float work is with the 506 or 507 mk1's but I still fighting with line twist despite using a swivel. However line is 3.2lb with a 2lb bottom ...... thanks for getting back to me

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lighter bottoms and high tech line will definitely cause you some twist, I use the quick change swivels now when fishing the bolo and using 0.08 to 0.13 bottoms...Reflo power line. I've also been incorporating them into my feeder rigs recently as well but line twist inevitably occurs at some point. A good old fashioned line can't really be beaten for strength and resilience and as long as the water isn't too clear you'll get away with it.

    Is that the YDAA stretch John? I know Hull have a small length up there. I've only ever fished the river below Sutton - I like to sit down when I'm fishing lol

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Believe it or not, it's free water these days, access isn't great since the flood wall went in and the mill was converted to flats. Hull have the pegs downstream of the bridge. There's a comfy peg above where I fished but it's tight with the overhanging trees, I've had a few barbel out if it this season on the tip gear but it really needs a bit if extra water in as landing the fish is difficult from the bank when it's low. I got cut off on the bed rock in front of it a few times before I switched to braid. I've yet to make the video but it will be coming at some point. Ideally you'd get in the river but getting out again would be awkward as the bank is steep drop in 3ft or so and it's gabion basket reinforced. Used to be able to wade up to the Weir back in the day before all the flood defences etc.

  • @regjenkinson6247
    @regjenkinson6247 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is their a bit of extra water in or is it always that colour

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was carrying a bit extra, there had been a few heavy showers the days before filming that, it had definitely coloured up a bit.
