When I read his name to her. She said "Oh him? he was very good. But let me tell you when Miss Andrews was on stage I forgot about everyone else. When she sang it was as if she gave the audience a big hug every single time. The light in her eyes... Mother said she'd been in the show for a long time but she seemed brand new... Mother said she's only 5 years older than you, don't you get any ideas and run off and do a musical... Even then I knew there would only be 1 Julie Andrews!"

He appeared on the Garry Moore show several times. He was a very accomplished all-round entertainer - actor, musician, singer and dancer. The older you get, the more you can appreciate how good some of the entertainers from our youth truly were.

Yes, I think Roy Castle was a little on the short side but press reports and profiles of Julie back in the day would regularly stress how tall she was. A 1956 article in the NY DAILY NEWS, for example, when JA was first cast in MY FAIR LADY reads: "This Julie is very pretty. She's quite tall for a girl, 5 feet 7 or so, and not frail -- something over 125. She abounds in energy" Today, I doubt we would think of 5'7" as especially tall but back then I guest must have been.

For the standards of the time Julie was tall (and I have read reports that place it up to 5'8'').
