I’m a canadian and shouldn’t be saying this, but that guy Alp in five seat is about as good a young rower as I’ve ever seen. Power, technique, relaxation, confidence… he’s got it all.
Now that I revisit this video, I’m still bullish on five seat but seven has a more assertive and athletic catch (up to the 2:00 mark). Five is so long that lost water at the connection isn’t a huge issue. I don’t meant to disregard anyone in this crew. Each member is impressive. Jr crews don’t get much, if any better than this.
Notice the slight hand drop at the catch. That’s only necessary when blades are feathered too long and kept too close to the water on recovery. Square up as hands pass the knees and have the squared blade at the ready at the latest as hands pass the ankles with upper body set locked long before.
Personally, I’d prefer to see an earlier square up. Rowers should not be forced to think about the catch and squaring of the blade at the same time. In calm water like that, feathering serves little purpose.

As a Mexican, I completely agree with you. Poise, rhythm, seductive-flow are just a few of the magnificent talents Alp clearly possesses.
Hahaha! He sounds like a player.
As an elderly Nigerian man alp has lots of length he is not lacking with girth either
As an Indonesian man I can full agree to the seductive nature of alps length. Incredible poise and precision.

0:42 if you compare both 8s man for man I'm still not sure who would come out on top
