The cold in my corner of the world was a sudden drop in temps from being in the thirties to the negative thirties for days. It was a tough week. Some chickens did not survive, and I even found pheasants and small songbirds dead in the snow. Very sad. When I checked my pens at dusk I found all kinds of game birds and songbird species inside with my poultry, even burrowed into the feathers of each other's backs! Nature always finds a way. I was sure busy keeping good high protein hay, small grains, and fresh water in front of everyone! And yesterday was above fifty degrees...nice.
You definitely have to work together in the kind of weather we have been having. And the forecasters say it's going to get even wilder. So be prepared. Thrift carharts and or snowmobile clothes your best friend will be the proper clothing. That includes footwear! Best wishes.
It certainly looks very cold! I understand what you mean about the snow unlocking a different world, one of silence and such beauty. It makes your chores all the more important! I always have a sense of peace after watching your video, as if I’ve been able to stop and pause the world, just for a few moments. Hope you manage to stay warm and cosy.❤️
I love your appreciation for the life you live. Also doing donuts in the side by side made me chuckle. My husband couldn’t have passed that up either 😂
small homestead content creator are always the best and more inspiring people just like me, to be honest i want to leave the town and pick up those things one day!❤
Nice to see you enjoying the snow even though it was so cold. Love seeing you take such great care of your animals like you do. Glad that cold has died down and the snow and freezing rain are gone here.
6:56 Why you put your water line not deep in the ground. For me when I live in Poland I place my water line like 3m in the ground (almost 10 feet). So no to take risk when temps can go very low sometimes.
We only have 9 chickens and usually get 6 eggs a day, now with the cold it went down to 2 or 4 a day, but we still have enough to give some away. God bless y'all and stay warm
I’m glad I’m not the only one who wears my woolly slippers outside!! We’re working toward getting running water out to our back pasture at some point. We don’t have a 4x4 so the walk is about 1km or so 😳. You guys are doing GREAT!!
Zach thanks for sharing a video with both of you and Ashlyn although we know that Ashlyn works away from the farm it's really nice when we get to see the two of you working together 💪
My girlfriend and I are planning on building a pen and watering system and looking for piglets this spring! You guys have been a huge inspiration so thank you ❤
This awsome! I’ve been binge watching your guys’ videos. I’ve always wanted to do something like what you guys are doing. It seems so fulfilling! I’m 34 living in California it just seems so far out of reach it’s sorta saddening BUT one can hope and maybe one day.
It looks amazing. But for us near Cape Town, South Africa, we're at 33 degrees C and really humid, sweltering. Can't wait for April when it gets cooler.
They are awesome but its imposible to buy those rubber dishes in Czech, so i had to order them from USA, price was same for dishes like for shippind :D
Loved your video. The snow is so beautiful & calming. The music is relaxing too. Where I live in Georgia, Senoia, it's been several years since we had any snow & the last substantial was in March 1993 during the blizzard. Thank you for sharing & may God Bless you both.
Your farm looks beautiful in snow. We ended up with about 9 inches of snow in Crossville, TN. Jim and I just hunkered down for the week. Around here the big danger is Ice. Both in our 60's the only animals we have Namida our dog and our strictly indoor cat Watahay. Our dog is a Whippet/Bulldog mix so she has to get bundled up and have foot covers to go out. All your animals are doing fine, congratulations on keeping them happy and healthy through these freezing temperatures.
Looking good. Snow makes things beauitful. If you are cold might as well hav snow to top it all off. I woud not like your freeze thaw cycles. All that ice to walk on. We had it -43C in Alberta this winter and thats cold. Way to cold. Enjoy your time and have fun. Will look at the JOIN section
Just discovered you guys recently. Love your work ethic. All the best to you guys and I will continue to watch. Take care stay warm and keep your heads up! tom
I'm new to your channel. I really enjoy your videos! I grew up in a town close to you called Mt Sterling. You are living the dream! Best wishes to you and Ashlyn!
I like ur video bro. Inspired alwys 😊 So mch caring & lovable person u r. I addicted ur vlogs amazing information.. I luved it. ❤ Lotssss of love & support from🇮🇳 india
We always wrapped our hydrants with an electric powered insulation tape, and remember how well it worked. I don't miss any of those days though, busting pond ice, etc.. Stay vigilant and prepared, as the world is heading towards God's wrath being brought forth. May God bless and guide you.
Hi Zack, i have a question. Why you throw the pigs food on the ground instead to putting it in a pot/vessel? It looks you're "wasting" some food on the ground.

The winter can be miserable but it’s great you guys can see the positive and beauty as well. Spring will be here before we know it! ❤
We can’t wait for spring! We always look back at pictures from the summer and can’t believe how lush and green it is!

Winter on the homestead offers special challenges but you guys met them. You do such a good job keeping your animals safe and comfortable.

You guys are building a beautiful life for yourselves and possible future children. What a great place to live. You are blessed.

I will be spending an extra day a week fully at the homestead now so I’m hoping I’ll be able to be apart of more videos in the future! 😊
Enjoyed the video. This crazy weather has tested many. Here in Wisconsin is finally mid-30s. I just became a member 😊

Wondering why you guys don't keep the pigs in the barn too in the winter?
This year we are using our pigs to till up our back pastures which were primarily weeds.
Make sure the water line for the out door yard hydrant is 4ft below the ground. At that depth it should not freeze.
I like ur video bro. Inspired alwys 😊

Don't worry we will send some more from Canada in February 😅
Hi from Niagara falls Ontario canada soŕry I can't join I don't have the money
Hi Zack, i have a question. Why you throw the pigs food on the ground instead to putting it in a pot/vessel? It looks you're "wasting" some food on the ground.
By the way i love you're videos.
How much do you feed your pigs?
About 3-3.5lb a day
Привет!Я из Беларуси. Можете сказать как называется ваша рабочая машина на которой вы возите воду?
How do you guys make money doing this? I’m just getting into this stuff and wondering
Please don’t share any private and personal would hurt your family
We don’t!
By “personal” I meant day to day stuff
