    Great video! My ridgeback and I love his K9 Voyager jacket to handle NYC winters and even with the jacket being 2.5 years old, I still get compliments on it all the time. While it's a little pricier than other options, the coat still has lots of life left in it, the quality is great, and the company also did a nice job recommending the fit when I initially ordered a size too large. I agree with you that the fit is so important in all of these jackets and with this one in particular, you ideally don't want the black Velcro sections showing too much (if at all).

    Big thing I did for my pup when she was little was to pick up a cheap kids sweater from the thrift shop then cut id down the middle and put velcro on it. Super easy. Cost all of $3 and it made her look like a leaping sheep. :)

    You WERE at 666 thumbs up and I got you off the devils number. LOVE THIS VIDEO and will be subbing even though I have a mixed breed 100 plus a few lb. rescue with longish hair. He came from Kansas so not at all used to Minnesota brutal cold and blizzards. Pretty sure it is the Hurtta Expedition he has and his nose goes up in the air to slip his head in as soon as he sees it. Would love to get him the HOODED one in the intro, but nothing was mentioned about that. Haven't found it anywhere in my searcbes either. I will be subscribing now that I found you....great voice and loved the content and 'action'. At one point we had a wolf husky and a purebred siberian with blue eyes. The only time we didn't do rescues. Thank you for the ridgeback education too.

    Fantastic review. I really, really just love your videos. We have had 3 Ridgebacks = 3 ChilliDogs and I agree that it is an incredibly versatile coat that works 95% of the time. My first ChilliDogs coat lasted longer than my first girl Esther and only required one repair after Hadjie (our equivalent of Zero) ripped it. Now that Hadjie the Elder is 9, I am looking for warmer options for him and I really appreciate your thorough review! New puppy (14 weeks) will make do with the big box bizzo this year!

      Glad you like them! And agree that versatility is probably the most important factor for most people. Both the fleece jackets cover most use cases for most people, but the process did make me realize that for the deepest parts of winter here in Chicago it's worth the investment in a warmer coat for my guys. (And congrats on the new addition!)

    Lol. I live in Chicago too - right at the lakefront & my female APBT mix is practically naked her hair is so short. Ordered her the Hurtta casual quilted overall - basically a onesie for dogs. She's nuts, so it will probably add 20 minutes to getting ready for a walk lol. My boy is a shepherd/shiba mix but doesn't have an undercoat so I ordered him the Hurtta expedition for when it's really nasty. He has a nice, thin but warm fleece pullover for when it's really cold but dry out. Loved the video & you have gorgeous doggos!

    We have the Voyagers coat and a fleece only. Was great this winter. Poppy doesn't like to put them on, but hates the cold. They have worked great, and her Irish Terrier brother has learned to grab the neck to pull her around when they are trying to kill each other.

    We're on our 3rd year with K9 Voyager and have been very happy with them. Made in USA too. Finn has the winter coat, tummy warmer and rain coat. The only thing we didn't like is the booties. We do use the leash opening and haven't had any issues. I believe you can request to have it omitted.

    • @MarkingOurTerritory

      Lots to love about the Voyager. And I'm sure it's even better if you get it made with custom measurements/omissions. I'd be comfortable doing it now that I've tested the jacket in person, but it's tough to do it sight unseen for a product you (understandably) can't return.

    Great video!!’ When you said the most favourite jacket will probably be the most versatile I knew which jacket to pick out :) with the rain and not too many extreme cold days I went with a raincoat with some warm features to it down to -10 which is around about the temp through out most of winter I’m sure I’ll get a winter coat for those even colder days but with tons of snow and rainy weather where I’m at you totally helped me make a choice I don’t think I’ll regret at all :P

  • @flatbushzombiejuice

    i bought the Hurrta xtreme-warmer in december and at first, i was really pleased. Unfortunately the biggest size is 65 (cm backlength) and my RR male is way beyond 70. It looked like it was going to fit well, but after a few days of use, i had to admit it was simply to small. The back was to short and also it was pretty tight at the chest, which led to rubbing marks in my dogs fur. If the xtreme-warmer would be available in 75cm backlength it FOR SURE would be my first choice, but a size or two too small, it just doesnt cut it.
    Thanks for your reviews, greetings from germany!

    • @MarkingOurTerritory
      @MarkingOurTerritory  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You bring up a great point. You can get away fudging some of the measurements a bit, but not length. If the jacket is too short, it's impossible to stop from flipping up and becoming useless. I've learned that one the hard way too!

    Hurta!!!! Love it as our warmest jacket option here in chilly Colorado when we do more extreme things (that RRs were not bred for) like snowshoing :) Totally agree that the back leg elastics aren't uber helpful most of the time and the issue with the back snap being problematic at bathroom time though! hahaha

      I think they first only focused on equestrian sports and then took advantage of the experience and then started making products for dogs as well. Great video thanks! We're going to get the Toppa Pomppa for our girl - I mean how could you not with that pattern! Just wondering wha size you bought for Zero? We've measured her but she is still growing and want to make sure we haven't estimated a size that she'll never grow into.

    • @MarkingOurTerritory
      @MarkingOurTerritory  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd strongly advise waiting until she's full grown, especially with the Pomppa, which is the least forgiving of these jackets in terms of adjustments. It "drapes" more than anything so you want the fit to be pretty exact. In general, I don't think it's worth guessing in sizing on any coat for a growing pup. Worth the premium to ensure you get the best fit for years of wear. All that said, for reference, I went with a size 65 for Zero

    Great review!. Thanks to your beautiful dogs, I decided on a ridgeback last year. It's a great breed. Could you please answer a couple of questions? How could I get an Eko plush toy? Do you ship overseas?. Also, how tall is your Penny? Our Ridgeback is only 7 months old but is growing so fast that we are worried about her adult size.

    • @MarkingOurTerritory
      @MarkingOurTerritory  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! The shop link is here - markingourterritory.com/shop/
      Penny won't be a good reference because she's about the smallest Ridgeback you'll meet. She's got a thin frame and only weighs 60ish pounds. If your girl is happy, healthy and energetic, no need to worry about her growth. She'll find her equilibrium. Only thing to watch out for is that you're not overfeeding her.

      The freezing temp of water is 32F, the freezing temp of a Ridgeback is like 75F according to them! It's highly variable depending on environment, but for us my guys are usually good for runs at the beach without jackets until the low 40s.

    Honestly never had any of my dogs wear a coat. not even at -10°c.
    And our current Ridgeback is more active the colder it gets.
    Downside is, he does not like the heat. 😅

    • @theresech
      @theresech 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or he is more active because he is freezing. You should have a dog coat when it's cold. Keep in mind that Ridgeback has hair and not fur. They have no under wool that warms. Imagine if you could get dressed yourself as you do when it is warmer and not be allowed to put on a winter jacket.

    • @wd25a
      @wd25a 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theresech I used to think that but it's the wrong way around. Actually a Ridgeback has a furry coat not hairy coat. Fur is a coat of short hairs of predeterminate length. Hairy coats OTOH keep growing. Hence Ridgebacks have a thin furry coat.

    • @wd25a
      @wd25a 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Over 40 years of Rhodesian Ridgebacks in my family in the UK. Never needed a coat for any of them, however my latest girl is very slight and small and I'm thinking off getting her one if it gets very cold. That said she's been out in the ice and snow and loves to play in it, very happy, tail up and wagging, no shivering.
      Also I concur, ironically all the ridgebacks have disliked intense heat. Cope fine in winter, dislike hot weather and won't walk in it. They also hate the rain.

    • @loveschocolate22
      @loveschocolate22 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it depends on the dog. Our previous Ridgebacks didn’t really seem to need a coat. Our current Ridgeback has a much shorter coat of hair and definitely seems to benefit from wearing one when it’s colder out.

    • @wd25a
      @wd25a 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loveschocolate22 All proper Ridgebacks have a short coat, but it's a little thicker than say a smooth haired vizsla. I've never had a fat ridgeback (met one or two though), however they have tended to be bigger and stronger than the ones in this video. My current girl is the polar opposite, she's a delicate little thing that people think is younger than she is, and ask if she is a full ridgeback (which she is clearly). Even she never shivers in the cold though. To be fair though she's never been out for more than 1.5 hours in the very worst conditions.
      It's fascinating seeing the different build of Ridgebacks, they vary so much - I think it shows the different breeds in their lineage. Non of them like the midday heat in the worst of the summer. I am most concerned for any dogs in the hot weather.
