Nature is basically natural elements like fire, water and animals, mysticism is basically bringing man made things fictional or otherwise into reality like for example summoning a train or a dragon and cosmos centers on space and time making portals and is basically the most over powered of the three. They all come from these three chakra like cores in your body, nature is in the physical core located in the stomach and symbolic of our literal bodily connection with the planet, mysticism is located in the spiritual core which is in the heart and symbolic of mankinds religious and philosophical desires and inventions and cosmos is located in the mental core in the head and symbolic of us thinking about what our place is in the universe and our existential questions and anxieties outside of the world we know. Mtg magic system has (almost) nothing to do with the elements. The colors represent philosophies. Red is aggression/passion, blue is knowledge/wisdom, green is natural order, white is law & order, black is typically selfishness/power at any cost. There are mages who do use elemental magic where they very roughly correspond to the colors you would expect. But the color system represents how those colors function in the card game itself. It’s much deeper & more interesting than “3 elements plus angels & skeletons”.
bug magic is that thing in elden ring where you get that black bar and then thorny branches made of flies burst out of your chest. they call it "deathblight" but its clearly bug magic
So you've probably heard this, but in Harry Potter wandless magic doesn't take a particularly powerful wizard to do, technically anyone can do it, the issue is the wand acts as a focus and gives a spell direction, Harry himself has cast spells without a wand, he just had very little control. The guy stirring his tea is doing something relatively small so he probably doesn't require a wand to focus his magic to simply move a spoon in a cup.
My magic system will involve primarily calling aid from and making deals with spirits, though only for elemental spells and powerful effects. Using raw magical energy is definitely plausible but is more similar to psionics than what we would see as magic.
How about a biological potion magic system? As a mage or sorcerer, your body develops the biological ability to produce magic potions. Different genetic traits are combined and enchanted inside the natural liquids of your body such as blood, sweat, tears, and the like. This ofcourse means your biology is automatically upgrading itself all the time.

the guy in the coffee shop is just using an enchanted spoon, the same way you place your hand over a broom and say "up", without a wand, the spoon is just... enchanted to stir
Late comment but I've been planning on doing my own fantasy themed stories and one thing I wanted to figure out was the magic system and how it worked. So the magic system I came up with followed the theme of Nature. The nature of the planet, the nature of its people, the spiritual nature of things, etc. I made three forms of magic that embody this sort of thing which is Physical, Mental and Spiritual. Physical magic refers to the chemistry, biology and physics of the world and people itself, such as creating a ball of fire using friction in the air, using gravity and earth magic to get a chunk of rock to float in the air and launch it, or using water magic to physically control someone (which makes sense considering our bodies are 90% water). Mental magic touches more onto the Sci-Fi side of things but it's mainly about the mental and emotional stuff. For instance if one were to consider the planet itself as a living being, then one can assume natural occurrences such as volcanoes representing it's rage, rain as sadness, or plants growing being happiness. The people side of things (both your own and others) could be a third sense, psychonesis, brainwashing, emotional manipulation, foresight, etc. (I.e. detecting where objects or people are with your mind or controlling someone's emotions like giving them a confidence boost, calming them down or intentionally pissing them off, or see the future). Spiritual magic refers to the spiritual and cosmic side of things such as Light and Darkness (in the traditional good and evil sense), astral projection, communicating with ghosts, time and space manipulation, or even bringing someone back from the dead. Weaknesses and long time effects was also something I had to consider so I made it so that the effectiveness depends on the caster's wellbeing so physical magic for instance will be more powerful if the caster is more fit and healthy but weaker when they aren't. Such is the case for Mental magic which is the caster's mental well-being and Spiritual being on how strong their spirit is. Plus I ask added weaknesses based on external factors such as you can't use earth based magic if their is no earth in the area you're in, nor can you manipulate emotions if said user either has a strong will or the inability to feel anything. The last bit was long term effects so I can up with Magic Sickness which is caused by over-excessive magic and also depends on the type used so Physical magic results in the caster becoming fragile, weaker and more ill (to the point of throwing up blood), Mental magic can drive the user insane or even lobotomize them whilst spiritual magic affects their spirit which can either kill them (if they resurrected someone), corrupt them or lose their connection to the spirit world entirely. It's a work in progress and tons of fleshing out needs to be done such as it's history, how spells are casted, etc. But yeah, thats the magic system I'm planning on doing. (EDIT: Did some changes but I separated the time/space, light and dark magic from Spiritual and put it into its own school being Cosmic (Based on the Cosmic forces of our world so time and space concepts and light/dark not in the physical sense but cosmic sense, along with adding a 5th school being Pure Magic, aka Energy Manipulation, essentially manipulating energy to ones body, mind or soul. Also added a 6th hidden school called True Magic, normal magic still follows the rules of physics whilst True Magic is essentially the ability to change reality altogether but takes an extremely long time to do, so long that its outright impossible to accomplish within a regular lifespan and in my universe only one character was able to accomplish that due to being immortal).
Damn it I didn't know someone used the spiritual, mental and physical concepts before me. I'm using them differently though see my comment above. This is really cool though congrats!
@@karlazeen Its still a work in progress and I have changed it with it now being around 5 schools instead of three. Still got the Physical, Mental and Spiritual schools but I ended up Spiritual and Cosmic to be separate schools and not the same, along with adding a 5th one which is Aether, or pure magic making it based on Energy manipulation.
I forgot to mention I have two other additional types which are supposed to be basic to the cosmic, natural and mystical elements which are advanced. They're called release and divination, release is basically pure ancestral energy manipulation and divination has to do with the senses, they're basically used for martial arts attacks and unlike the three advanced types anyone can use them while you have to have an affinity for the cosmos, mysticism and nature if you want to use them. This is less of a magic system and more of a power system its inspire by anime and manga I like. Mine is a work in progress too I haven't even gone into the infinite number of miracle arts like the flame arts, water arts, space arts, artifact arts, chimera arts etc. I also have an idea for your system, couldn't you just call the cosmic school the celestial school and make it about using and combining all three of the first classes as well to get new powers like energy manipulation? You could also make the magic types more rare as you progress with physical being the most common all the way up to celestial which is the rarest. That would be pretty cool but hey its your system do whatever you want with it l'm just making suggestions, good luck!
Gonna be honest bro, I can tell you've thought about this a lot, but this isn't the one chief. Well, if you're just writing for fun then go on lad do what you want! If you want a career writing however, this system really isn't gonna serve you any favours. Frankly it's fairly generic and unless it's backed by excellent writing (and I mean excellent writing), or isn't that important or noticeable in the world, its going to be boring.
@@ichigoparfaitgatomaranai I actually ended up revising the whole thing, I still wanted to do the Physical, Mental and Spiritual aspects, along with the elemental stuff and the theme of nature so I decided to instead of it being a magic system, I remade it to be a hybrid of Magic and Chi. So as a result, a lot of the way things worked changed so instead of being three forms, I changed and split it into multiple versions to each reflect a different theme which I called Arts. The Arts made things a little easier as instead of having multiple things in one form, I had it separated so that in a way one Art can affect the other or used with the other, plus I themed them around the new Magic/Chi system and so far I have: *Body Arts* - The manipulation of energy to affect ones body such as physical enhancement, I.e. strength and defence. *Mind Arts* - The manipulation of energy to affect ones mind such as psychic abilities, I.e. Mind reading, telepathy, telekinesis, etc. *Soul Arts* - The manipulation of energy to affect ones soul such as spiritual abilities, I.e. Astral Projection, Soul Detection, Soul Enhancement, etc. *Elemental Arts* - The manipulation of the planet on a material level allowing one to manipulate or generate an element that resides in the planet such as Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, etc (the usually stuff) *Cosmic Arts* - The manipulation of the planet on a cosmic level so in other words Space and Time manipulation, along with Wish granting, however because of the OP nature of those abilities, I made it so that the ability of Space and Time is exclusive to certain tribes and not everyone. Creation and Destruction was something I also added as part of the Cosmic line up. *Divine Arts* - It’s essentially Light and Darkness. I only just realised when writing this comment that the new version sounds somewhat generic as well which made me realise something, I don’t think a magic system is even remotely possible to do without making it sound generic so I might consider just ditching it altogether.

There are mages who do use elemental magic where they very roughly correspond to the colors you would expect. But the color system represents how those colors function in the card game itself. It’s much deeper & more interesting than “3 elements plus angels & skeletons”.
Came from reddit and expected a un-enthusiastic narrator with crappy editing.
boi was i wrong.
Cheers mate! good luck with everything.
Came from reddit too and I was laughing which surprised me
Water + earth = mud. Titans are mud.
“Except for football” hit me like an eldritch blast
bug magic is that thing in elden ring where you get that black bar and then thorny branches made of flies burst out of your chest. they call it "deathblight" but its clearly bug magic
And since when is Pokémon a world with a magic system?
I just discovered this channel, and boy is this good.
@@catherineromanov Please do, I can see you getting big.
God I love your humour 😂 I hope you continue doing this!
@@catherineromanov ohhh! Thank you! I can't wait!
Man, your content may be underrated but it's entertaining as hell, you got a new subscriber 😄

3:54 Magic really means it's something that science has no explanation for yet, so psychic does fit in both Fantasy and Sci Fi.
Oh lookie! A hidden gem!
In harry potter, many wizards in Africa use magic without a wand. wands are mostly used on the north part of the globe.
The thing about Harry Potter is that while focusing is important and wands definitely help, wands are not mandatory, they just make it easier and are good for beginners, and for a spell as trivial as what he's doing he might not need to maintain eye contact
fighting magic is throwing a hadouken
0:52 Also Harry making an entire glass panel disappear as an 11 year old, with no wand, cause he was angy.
"Who the fuck does Fighting magic?"

"Sono chi no sadame..."
I came looking for real advice, I left smiling and not giving an F about my original goal. You sir deserve a like 🤣
"Who the fuck does Fighting Magic?"
Goku. Are you gonna tell me Dragonball isn't Fighting Magic?
I lost it at alligator magic.
This guy is just talking
Underneath the sarcasm is love and hate. Lol
the guy in the coffee shop is just using an enchanted spoon, the same way you place your hand over a broom and say "up", without a wand, the spoon is just... enchanted to stir
i think this is one of the funniest video’s i’ve ever seen, came across while searching for vancian magic. seriously underrated
Wait until they learn about that one manga where magic comes from breast milk
@@karlazeen
Its still a work in progress and I have changed it with it now being around 5 schools instead of three.
@@ichigoparfaitgatomaranai
I actually ended up revising the whole thing, I still wanted to do the Physical, Mental and Spiritual aspects, along with the elemental stuff and the theme of nature so I decided to instead of it being a magic system, I remade it to be a hybrid of Magic and Chi.
So as a result, a lot of the way things worked changed so instead of being three forms, I changed and split it into multiple versions to each reflect a different theme which I called Arts. The Arts made things a little easier as instead of having multiple things in one form, I had it separated so that in a way one Art can affect the other or used with the other, plus I themed them around the new Magic/Chi system and so far I have:
*Body Arts* - The manipulation of energy to affect ones body such as physical enhancement, I.e. strength and defence.
*Elemental Arts* - The manipulation of the planet on a material level allowing one to manipulate or generate an element that resides in the planet such as Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, etc (the usually stuff)
*Cosmic Arts* - The manipulation of the planet on a cosmic level so in other words Space and Time manipulation, along with Wish granting, however because of the OP nature of those abilities, I made it so that the ability of Space and Time is exclusive to certain tribes and not everyone.

She invoked the insect spirits and they upgraded her physical body.
She casted so many bug spells that she can now do very buggy things without actually doing her rituals.

I Appreciate either magic sytems that are complex but well explained and established while still being fun or magic systems where the author clearly went "fuck it" and just decided to do something fun. Both ends of the extreme can work well depending on the story, but the bad ones get caught somewhere between the middle, typically leaning more towards the complex side but with glaring plot holes.
I suddenly really want to write something about bug magic
