Can You Make Resin Geode Coasters Using Epsom Salts For The Crystals

  • After the experiment I did to see if you can use Epsom Salts in resin, I have to make this video; Geode Resin Coaster Tutorial - Using Epsom Salts For The Crystals to see how well they would work. I am really surprised by the results, especially as making geodes with resin is not something that I am particularly good at. This technique really helped raise my resin geodes to the next level.

    Hi Steve. Another great video. I love how honest & down to Earth you are you don’t just show off your resin pieces that have come out great. You show us everything that comes no matter how good or bad they are, mostly great 😉. I also love the fact you don’t hide your tremors or let them stop you from what you want to do. I come from a family that suffers with from tremors, sometimes they can come in handy when you want to create wobbly lines etc.
    with this video I must admit I wasn’t too fussed with your first piece. But I loved the second one, it came out brilliantly. I’ve not been a fan of those geode coaster people make & paint or apply gold leafing around the edges. Or any other colour that does not have a more grey based tone around the edge. But I will admit that the silver leaf really made that second one pop out & worked brilliantly. I love watching your videos. I rarely watch anyone else work with resin now as I don’t have the time to watch lots of videos each day so I love watching & rewatching yours because of how honest they are & that you are great talking us through your process & give your reasons too. Thank you again Steve. Becks

    Y'know that video about using the packaging on toys as molds? We just opened the first advent night chocolate from the calendar, and it was in the shape of a small train. My grand daughter immediately asked me "Grandma, can we " and before she could finish I told her I had just seen that video, and that YES we could use the plastic behind the chocolates to mold with!

    Hi Steve! I am amazed watching your videos at how easy you are able to make things look. I have a question, whenever you demold a piece, do you have rough or sharp edges? If you do, do you deburr or sand? I would love a video on dealing with these issues. I am just getting into resin and have cut my fingers a couple of times. Any advice? Cheers, Paige C.

    Cool 😀😍. I love making geodes, they sell well. Took a pair to the shop today funnily enough to replace the ones that sold. After your previous video about the Epsom Salts I did go and buy some. However, due to Anglesey winter I've had to stop doing resin until next year, which is most frustrating. I would be interested in seeing what geode designs you could create with a slightly larger coaster mould 😀. Or even a larger geode piece of wall art or a geode tray 😁😁. Those Epsom Salts have potential!

    • @tazminmoore455
      @tazminmoore455 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heating prior to use is not the issue. The problem is keeping the internal ambient temperature stable enough for the resin to cure. My house is close to the coast and somewhat exposed, despite hedges and trees. If I had a studio then it would be likely be loss to control the temperature. I do have a room that would be suitable but it has 2 of my buns living there. Got a small house and nowhere else for them to go. I need a bigger house😅. I did try using an electric propagater but I can only make 2 - 3 coasters in that. Cannot find a propagater large enough for trays, cake stands and the other large pieces I make.
      As I'm writing this I can hear a bird trapped in the flue from the log burner. I don't know how it got there or how I can get it out 😥😥.

    • @tazminmoore455
      @tazminmoore455 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, meant if I had a room it be easier to control the temperature. Peppermint and Aubrey's room would be good because it only has one window anemone door and quite a small room.

    • @tazminmoore455
      @tazminmoore455 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How would that work? I thought cool boxes keep stuff cool? And how would I keep the ambient temperature stable inside a box? The utility room, where I make my resin pieces, is currently at 15c, so surely that is too chilly for resin?

    The following is just my personal opinion...I enjoy watching your videos, and I love making art from resin. I have made some ashtrays, and keychains, and a few other things myself, and I find some of your techniques helpful. However, when it comes to things like crystals and geodes, I will never do that, because I only like the real ones, so I will never make fake ones. When it comes to natural things, I feel that nature always does it best. I would never even buy a fake geode or crystal.

      Because we are trying to find the best products to do the longest lasting job to the best of our ability so customers want to give us money to buy food. Using natural crystals for the exact same function and effect but 1/10 the price means that gem chip artists can also continue to do their work and we can all buy groceries 😀
