    Honestly looks so smooth yet so detailed, very accurate. I hope the TT:120 version will be as good, since I probably wouldn’t have enough space for this version

    I preordered mine from Hatton's when the unit was announced early in 2017. As a result I got it for £319. Great review video Matt, and I hope to review mine before the end of the week. Can't wait for it to arrive. Cheers, Jamie

    Another great video Matt, I am waiting for the Virgin East Coast version hopefully the price will not go up too much. What I don’t t understand is how some manufacturers can keep to a price quoted 2 years ago and others can’t. I have had a Bachmann class 150 Arriva with sound on order for 2 years now price was £229.00. Now I am told it is going to be £300. Oxford rail MK3 coach full price £34.95 and still the same price 2 years later. Well done to Hornby for another great Model.
    Peter

    This is a whole new era in train technology. It's a bit of a fright - being thrust into the future at 100 MPH, but it's here. And it's a looker. And it's smooth, fast and as reliable as a home computer (BIG record player scratch sound here....!!!!) - did 'they' say as reliable as a home computer?
    Train Driver: "I don't know. It all just stopped and everything is blue now."
    Phone Support: "Have you turned it off and on again?"
    ...and so it goes. "We" make leaps forward, but somehow manage to TRIP OVER the finish line. Humans...
    Beautiful train. Smooth, sleek AND a stunning review. Sorry, but I just had to laugh a bit as I took a "WEB" break and stumbled upon some Hitachi Train marketing info. You know, filled with an overabundance of positive words. But at least G.B. is doing something to bring rail transport into the present day.
    Your efforts here, on TH-cam, are both enjoyable and informative. Hope you realize I was having a bit of a poke at the sometimes arrogance of capitalism, not your review.
    Well, all good then -
    Thank you for sharing...
    P.S. I'm a Yank and I just can't help it - I do think I'm funny, though.

    god all that at the beginning sounded like a bit off a tung twister haha, tbh im actually glad hornby have added a coupling behind the nose peace, why on the hst have Hornby made it look shinny and weird but on the the class 800, it is a nice green, ive rode behind 2 off them they are amazing, Hornby have actually done a good job on them, still questionable on the price but it does look good, I never new they have 2 pantographs on one train, that is very odd, it gets very close to your back wall, shame you didn't run the gwr hst around is well that would off looked great.

      Pull out the bogies, put a 6mm washer in and reinstall the bogies, I had to do it on mine as the bogie damper would catch under body on a curve, lock and then derail.

    HI there can i ask if you have ever had any problems with your Class 800's starting up moving and then stopping multiple times then creating a short circuit. i am in the throws of returning my 800back to hornby for the second time now with the same motor fault. yet all my other hornby and bachmann locos all work perfectly fine.

    I bought one of these today! My excuse is that I don't have many coaches - that's a good one eh? Regarding the price, I tried hard to find an cheaper HST set but could only save about £20 so the 800 isn't badly priced especially if you are a regular at your local model shop where you can get a good deal.

    £80 per carriage for a DEMU a lot of money Matt, good review just glad I basing my layout loosely on the S&C (MR), rubber things are corridor connections, & cant line is the orange stripe strange how your mind forgets what there called when you need to know on camera

    Hi Matt, I'm still not sold by the pricing of this model. As near as damn £400 seems around £100 too much for me. It does look very nice with a clean & crisp paint livery, but not even DCC for that sort of money. So then an extra £42 for decoders on top. Nah.

    • @jamtart606
      @jamtart606 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm guessing why Hornby did this is to save money, they were in a bit of a Money problem about two years ago as models were just too expensive for most people, I mean £400 for a 4 units for a DCC Ready model I will agree is over the top...

  • @AnthonyRailwayBVideos

    Great video and nice train, but I have a concern with this release, at nearly £400 pounds this train is more than double the cost of the class 395 at it’s time of release, and you can get a new apple iPad for around the same price this, or up to 3 chrome books. Do you think such a price is really justified?

    • @AnthonyRailwayBVideos
      @AnthonyRailwayBVideos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, last time I checked, you can get a H0 4 car brass model of the Japanese Shinkansen 0 series for around the same price, just to add more question to hornby’s pricing. But anyway, a H0 Shinkansen in brass, that would make a cool review, would you be interested in getting one?

    Those damn trays !!! Is it me or does it sound a bit plasticy when running? Like the trailing power car sounds like it is very light weight. On RMWeb I guess that some people are having issues with the bogies not moving properly and causing derailments. I think the price is a bit steep and I think that the pantographs should have been made of metal.

    Matthew like all your reviews that you do this one has to be the BEST also i myself can give a 9 and half out of 10 and like the real GWR class 800 they to had teething problems befor they enter service tho the running of it around the layout gave me to say ill give it a 10 out 10 for an excellent performance and do the destination board work ?. Now until I see the real class 800 004 yes your front driving car is GWR 800 004 and has 2 names on which 1 you did not check or mention ok yes I agree you said you mention "Sir Daniel Gooch" but if you look you should find that it is "Isambard Kingdom Brunel" on the other side trust me. If it were still the days of Lima, they would make a better version - and without the gaps between coaches and probably with the line down the middle of the nose cone where it would open up in real life. Alongside it is missing the digital receiver at the front where the hole is (but maybe this is in the pack somewhere?). £400 though - jesus, a long way from the 1980's and 90's prices I remember!
