I just found your channel yesterday, and pretty much watched the whole pond build process, leak fighting, and other frustrations and successes in less than 24v hours. Quite a journey. I'm guessing you've seen Bama Bass's pond series. I watched that whole series in real time! That has been quite a journey as well. I look forward to more videos chronicling your pond journey. Good luck in the pond vegetation fight! I just thought about something. Tyler's real fishing has a great video with a biologist that just came out a week or so ago. You should check that out if you haven't seen it. If I remember correctly, 30 percent vegetation is the goal for an ideal pond management of vegetation. Blessings!
Wow, thanks for watching. You’re too kind. Yes, I’ve paid attention to Steven’s channel on BamaBass! He’s got some incredible resources! I wish I had the time to dedicate to our pond like he does. He’s got quite the setup, and I’ve learned a lot watching. It’s interesting how our leak situation became such a part of our story. Most of our audience have joined through the leak videos. That’s a far more common issue people deal with than I knew. The vegetation is an delicate balance I’m learning. I will check out that video on Tylers reel fishing. I had heard before about the 30-ish% vegetation/fish habitat is a good goal. Some of the veg is good. I like the pondweed and hornwort, but don’t like chara, naiad and cattails…..and of course the filamentous algae. It really is a science experiment with a lot of cause and effect. The changing seasons offers something different all the time. Thanks again for watching and sharing your encouragement. Blessings to you!
Those milk crate structures that you put in for minnow spawning; are they always sticking out of the water, or is the water low? I think I need to add a few things like that for our minnows. I don't think they are reproducing fast enough to feed all the smaller fish. I have been removing large bluegill, and small bass and crappie to reduce the amount of competition for the walleye, perch, and hybrid bass. I removed 90 crappie so far. I hope my efforts are making a difference.
The milk crates are always a couple inches above water at full pool. I should probably adjust those, or at this point maybe even remove them entirely. That end of the pond has turned out to be the mucky collection area where all the floating debris accumulates. I’m trying to figure out how to manage this shallow area better. Kinda unsightly a lot of the time. Every bit helps in harvesting your fish! As for minnow reproduction, those crates I added specifically for fathead minnows. I don’t think they last very long in our pond. The shiners have been prolific spawners, and they won’t use milk crates to spawn.

Looking good now and in the future. Great ideas !
Thanks Jerry!
The algae on our pond is absolutely out of control. The best way is mechanical removal but at some point it just becomes so overwhelming.
Agree, putting my chemical treatment strategy together. It is overwhelming. And unfishable in less than 4-5’

@@newnatureadventures I still think you should add 2 or 3 grass carp to help clean up all that plant growth.
Why not just add a couple grass carp for the algae
I have considered that for the chara algae, but I don’t believe they would touch the filamentous algae. Have you had good results with grass carp?
