I believe it started when Michael Che made a joke about a golfer releasing a Christmas rap song being on a compilation album called "Now That's What Jost Calls Music", and with heightened concerns over racism cropping up in the 2010s, it continued from there. EDIT: And when the joke swapping started. Can't forget about that.
I think it's stuff they did in the back amongst themselves playfully and it just bled out onto the show. I love it cause its the subversion of the old trope that everyone loves the good looking wealthy straight white guy who's married to a hot wife
She just is so how can I describe it to me she carries the just go for it spirit of early SNL. When she grabs the cake at the end is comedy gold. Rather or not it was spontaneous she made it look like it was. She's a fearless performer too.
She's the original 3 Ladies combined.. She is equal parts Gilda, Jane and Elaine... That's why Lorne dug her.. The Molly Shannon's, Cheri Oteri, Kate McKinnon, Wiig have that knack for transcending the characters they create to make them as real as any thing youve met

The trajectory from SNL to film isn't what it used to be. Films are taking fewer risks and someone like Sarah would be too constrained. Look what happened to Kate McKinnon. Can you name a single movie that has properly utilised her ability? Streaming, TV or just staying on the internet is going to be better for Sarah in the long run where she has more freedom.

I always thought she was the creator of Steven Universe (Rebecca Sugar) if she grew up with 1990s gross-out cartoons like Ren and Stimpy and its myriad of imitators (Cow and Chicken, Schnookums and Meat, etc) rather than girly anime like Sailor Moon.
I'm just surprised that after all those jokes, they missed the chance to say that "Colin wants Sarah's cake". It was right in front of their face. Literally...
As a joke I would love for Scarlett to appear behind Sarah one time after several of her jokes about Colin
