Honestly. Being a small, low budget game that gets good because of the love and effort put in by the developer is the perfect representation of Power Rangers.
There's a bunch of stories of Power Rangers getting screwed over by budget cuts, but it kept going because the staff genuinely loves the series and respects it's legacy.
Exactly, like those on the Disney Era were really screwed by budget.
Also what happened with (super)megaforce, where the writers had a lot of ideas they wanted to put in, like the red ranger being innately connected to the morphing grid, put the guy in charge basically went "Plot? BOOORRING. Let's put in more fights and forced puns."
@@coyraig8332 they went for superficial stuff and it shows, I miss seasons like SPD, Lost Galaxy, and In Space.
Funny thing is, chroma squad almost got screwed by saiban, the devs were making a turn based strategy super sentai game, and they got bullied by saban asking them for money.
This game has me interested and I want to try it.
Dunno why they haven't done it but I'll be satisfied once they add in 1 of the Psycho Rangers

Bro, If they had White Dino or any of The Thunder rangers, I'd lose my mind. They're some of the coolest rangers in the series. As far as villains went I'd probably go for Mesogog, Zeltrax, or Trakeena.

my guess is they are saving those for a (potential) future sequel. nway is a pretty tiny developer so i guess we shouldnt be that surprised we only got 18 characters for a 3 vs 3 game. i too am hoping theyd have more female villains in the future. i would love to have a team of trakeena, astronema, and vypra

The best part about this is that it feels like a true fan service for the hardest of hardcore fans. They don't pick the most marketable character, they're not giving a billion Red or Blue rangers like how DBFZ is giving all Gokus. When I saw Udonna and mech Trini I knew that their character choices were about, "who can make this game interesting" rather than "who is popular".
100% true. the ONLY people who would understand where dragon armor trini came from would be those who read the recent comics. sure, the casual power rangers fan may have heard of lord drakkon but seeing the original yellow ranger wear bad ass, super bulky, dragon armor? talk about obscure and i LOVE it

I saw the live-action trailer for the comics, found out about the comics through that, read the comics, and then later heard about the game. All within the last few months.
The devs confirmed they will be doing dlc all throughout 2020 so we'll have to see what characters they decide to add.
Last year they also were asked about a combo trial mode and said they'd consider it so we may see that soon
The DLC chars are guaranteed to be from:

Ninja Storm
RPM
Because those are the fan-favourite seasons left that don't have a representation yet

Personally my dream dlc pass would be dino thunder white, hyperforce black, and a the thunderstorm rangers as a duel character like Android 18 in fighterZ

This game improved so much! I’m a day one player and the amount of glitches and just the non voice acting was a little bit bad in the beginning but they listen to us and actually care. Lord Zedd I remember at the time before his release was a heavily requested character and they made him so damn fun to play as! I love Dai Shi and hopefully RJ gets added
This game could have loads of season passes which I wouldn’t mind as the developers care I would easily pay for it as this game could last for years cannot wait to get this on my switch

Surprising amount of polish on a game my friends and I meme’d on after seeing the first trailer. Still waiting for a Power Rangers game in the same style as Dynasty Warriors or Spiderman games though. Fighting games just not my thing.

I've been eyeing this game for a while but i'm not really someone who plays fighting games often or has really been into power rangers. It was just something that caught my attention when Max first talked about it and have liked it since even tho my ability to play fighting games leaves me not getting it. So thanks for making this video all about it.

Honestly the simplifications this game has can sound like a turn off but the degenerate stuff and maximum combos look cool. I don't think simplifications will sell a game, but if you were gonna do them I'd much rather they be like what this game has.
In that same note its frankly why I'm not excited for any of Arcsystems new stuff. Rather than fix the netcode and offer more, they just give us a toned down Xrd in Strive and a watered down CF in Tag. At least they got Uni;Clr coming though, that looks fun.
to be honest the only simplification they did was special moves. aside from that everything is MVC levels of execution and degenerate stuff(maybe even more i think).
The game is super heavy on using plinks and kara which are not for beginner people and the neutral is anything BUT beginner friendly.
The netcode problem is part of a cultural stigma in Japan; they refuse to adapt rollback netcode, because it's a foreign invention and the problem it's meant to solve only happens outside their homeland (In Japan, the sheer proximity of players makes rollback netcode redundant). Maximilian made a video on this issue called "Not invented here". It tells you all you need to know about it.
@@anthonyrousseau8050 I've seen his takes on it, personally I like Sajam going into depth about GGPO and Majin Obama talking about the Japanese scenes.
I just find it funny that Arc is hellbent on securing a new western audience that they think the gameplay is what pushed people away, not the netcode. Seriously they always dodge the netcode question (if not flat out ignore it) and circle back to how they want to appeal to global trends or something (both Daisuke and Mori).
Love or hate Capcom's fighting game division, (personally I'm not a fan of the gameplay decisions of SFV), I will give credit that they tried Rollback, even if they fucked it up in SFV.

This is a fantastic review! Thanks, might buy this game now. My hopes for future seasons are actually very similar to yours, but I'd love to see the villain of dino thunder as well. Man, kid me honestly thought that guy was terrifying.
I would say an easy way to put Scott from RPM is to make him a skin for Jason. I know some of you may see that as sacrilege but if you think about it the two are very similar when it comes to weapon choice and arsenal. Both are based around a sword and you could easily make jason's dash attack scott's street sword attack with the giant racing wheel. Scott used his blaster a fair amount too just like Jason did. It kind of just works when you think about it
You have the best review I've seen, and ... dude ... I am currently campaigning for Ivan Ooze constantly on Twitter. We have to have a 1995 movie rep, and he would be perfect. Also people, let's keep encouraging the developers to keep the Season Passes coming. The more content we get, the better this game gets! Rock on!

The Gem and Gemma from RPM being a duo character like andriod 18 is the exact same Idea I had for them. It makes total sense since thats pretty much how their characters were in the season

You had some good picks for reps. Not including the ones you chose I would personally want the titanium ranger or the red lightspeed ranger, any of the solar ranger, Bulk and Skull, or the solaris knight. As for villains (too many to choose): Mesogog, Rito, any of the psycho rangers, Koragg, or Decker.
Wild force wolf ranger, Ivan ooze, Turbo blue, Dino Thunder White, and Zeo Red/Green are my picks. (I was obsessed with the Wild Force Wolf ranger as a kid).

Thanks for bringing more attention to this game. It unfortunately got buried by announcing the same day as MK11 and then launched unfinished in a crazy move just to get out there before MK11. Then it got totally ignored by the VGA's which was a crying shame. I hope as 2020 goes on it finds a bigger audience, Maximillion gave this title best fighting game of 2019 for a reason after all.

I love this game! Every character is unique, and I like playing with every character. The devs really show the love. They made a power ranger fighting game on the phone which was fantastic at the start but then became about money. But this game was they put all the love into it and got great info from actually fighting game experts, so Ill support this game till they make a 2nd game.
I do hope they add more story, but after more characters

I got this game and wasn't sure how I liked it at first, but once you get use to the fighting style it's a legit fighting game. Also being able to play as the white ranger makes my inner child super happy.
One thing I hope they do is make the alternate colour schemes better. It’s something small but to me is just as important as alternate skins. All of them are basically “evil” coloured versions.
That’s why the Lion guy from Jungle Fury (sorry, I fight his name. It’s been ages since I’ve talked about Power Rangers so I’m rusty). His one actually looks visually appealing and would purposeful choose it even if the other guy isn’t playing as him

I've been playing this game a lot on switch since it was on sale on Black Friday for $11. I can honestly say the online is incredible. I find a game in under a minute every time in ranked. Plays fine on wifi as well.
Does anyone know what the deal is with the disc based release of the game. They sell it in some places but it’s really obscure. Also, will it accept the dlc characters you bought?
Zen Aku is a great idea actually, and have him like a werewolf character with both his forms - Merric Silver Ranger and Zen Aku. Special button to swap between the two. I know, not totally show accurate, but it'd be cool.

Zen Aku is a really cool choice. Either him or the Wolf Wild force ranger. As far as other villains go, Master Org, Rancid or Lothar are my favorites.
Never in my life would I expect people to get hyped for a power rangers game. Oh, what a world. The 90s kid inside of me is pleased.

This may be a nitpick but I would love if they put some morphing animations into the game for intros. I know that is a lot to ask for but it would be SICK if they did.

The game is fun and simple to play. When it come to the combat the only thing I wish that was there was someway to break a combo since it feels pretty cheap to be just hit once and that equal death.
They're gonna nerf meter gain by 30% and increase HP by 100 for all characters so we won't die in a single combo as easily anymore. :)
On zordon I had no idea this was out but I bought it in the middle of the video and now I’m very excited!!.
I do hope when more characters come out, they change the character selection UI. Having it on one row is never good. It makes selecting characters more tedious. Right now it's a small roster so it's fine. Just later they need to change it
I think something that should be in the game, is the use of Battlizers. And if you're playing a Ranger who isn't Red or special, or you're playing a villain, you can either use their Team Super mode, a powerful aura, or just change up the moveset, like Lord Zed Pulling out another Zed Staff
Played this game at AB before the patches were out had a blast, bought the game on the switch, then recently bought it on PC I don't regret that

I legitimately consider this to be tied with Soul Calibur 6 for best fighting game of 2019. Even as a former power rangers fan I felt the love and care oozing from this game. As for my wish list, I want Jungle Fury Wolf Ranger, Dino Thunder Black, and the Ninja Storm Thunder Rangers as a hybrid character like Android 18 in DBFZ.
Don't know if you've played it recently coz outside of last night, last time I played it was around the time of this video, but yea, decided to boot up the game on Switch last night and they've yet again made some pretty good changes... like they NOW have a character movelist that expains what moves into what (like Shadow Ranger's neutral B and pressing a different attack strength after). Also, they overhauled the character select screen... it doesn't look so bland, anymore. Like the rearranged the caracter layout. Also, the loading screen even has an image of the chosen zord behind you, etc. Stuff like that... here's to more updates and more characters!!!
This game looks awesome, but the fact that I have to pay quite a bit extra just to get a decent roster means I will be waiting for the complete edition.
Great review. I love this game, but i think it needs more offline modes to keep the attention of casual offline players. Also i pray to god that they add in the Titanium Ranger at some point.
Fascinating.
The paired character archetype could be well-serviced by Space Red and Lost Galaxy Pink. They are also siblings, and just about the only pairing of rangers from different seasons that would make obvious sense to me. Space being unrepresented atm is also cool.
The RPM pair is also a fun idea, though, as would the Crimson and Navy rangers from ninja storm.
I know we just got Daishi, but I would love Jungle Fury Purple for a Muay Thai-based character ala Sagat or Adon.
Wildforce Silver would be dope for pool cue shenanigans like that character from Guilty Gear.
Characters that I just want to see as a fan are Blue Senturion and Ninjor. There's little blue representation, and either would be a funky way to do so, plus Blue Senturian could act as the Turbo rep.
Scorpina would be fun for a female villain (Ranger Slayer half-counts, imo). I'm all aboard the Korag train, especially cause he already has an alt color off-the-bat.
Going back to Daishi, he represents something interesting in the season pass model. If reformed ranger-like characters can be considered as villains, then several of the characters you suggested could be a way to "cheat" three rangers in a pass by including the thunder ninja storm rangers or white dino thunder ranger. Since Magna Defender is officially considered a ranger, you're a ranger if you morph and have a word, imo.
Paired arch type would work best with the beetle brothers

As someone very impressed by how this game went from an OK fighter at launch (when I got a review copy) to a pretty damn impressive love letter, I'd definitely pick up some Seasons if they included some cool characters like these: Heck, S1/S2 are on my to buy list since two of my favorite rangers (Gold and Shadow) are already out, so they're doing good work.
Since they seem to be going with oddballs made up for the comic, maybe they could do something with that, but that also ties in a bit to the actual show. The Supersonic rangers that appeared in the comic (based off the Fivemen sentai) would be really cool to see in the game, since I adore pre-Zyu Sentai shows and the designs of most of them are pretty darn cool, and Supersonic would be the most likely since it's in Power Rangers lore at this point.
Either that, or Bio-Man. Go even further and BEYOND galaxy brain, and include Victor Lee from the Bio-Man pitch pilot. Red Bio, an unknown ranger to the world, a sign of what could have been, fighting alongside the rangers that became what we know. I'd be overjoyed if they went into that territory of PR lore.
Costumes for me are a thing I can't really think much about as Tommy is pretty much the only major character to change from season to season, but I'd dig him getting a Red Zeo/Black Dino suit, alongside Gia getting a Megaforce/Gosei suit. Maybe Shadow Ranger gets a helmetless costume that is either Anubis or Doggie. Besides that, I really don't know of much else they could use for this.
In terms of more known rangers, I'd say Titanium due to him being PR exclusive. Alternatively, Phantom Ranger would be super cool to see too, along with Signalman's PR counterpart, Blue Senturion. I always dig seeing sixth rangers/helpers in games like these so the fact that Shadow and Gold are in the first packs, and they were my first and second favs of that type respectively, make them pretty worth it.
For bad guys, Lokar's still my number 1 hope due to him being an adaptation of a pretty good Sentai villain, but was underused in the actual show and needs more attention. Ecliptor would be a pretty neat pick too. All in all, great video, and I'm honestly now feeling the urge to dig this game out and work through the story mode and catch up on maining Magma Defender more. (who I would have made my 3rd most wanted, if he wasn't in base game)
