The microphone was ehh ok, but the camera was truly fantastic. Especially given the size of the thing.
The Surface 3 was my best friend through all of college, I used it for every class to take notes and carry with me instead of a backpack. He touched on it a little bit, but that's one of the biggest things in my book to use this product for.

I own a surface 2017. I'm really happy with it but the quality is not as good as it should be at all. Had to change the typecover 2 times and the pen 2 times too. The display has little backlight bleeding and two grey spots (what is not remarkable if the screen is not totally black).
Just don't think the extra bucks will save you from poor quality!

@@jordanpaige7329 I have a surface pro 4 i5 8gb ram and yes it's great for simple tasks. I can open 20 chrome tabs at once and have ms word and excel and a bunch of other apps running. Never experienced lag to be honest.

Both great products, it mainly comes down to preference when choosing which one you want
But to get that computer like functionality on iPad you need to go for the Pro which costs significantly more but you also need the Magic keyboard which costs about the same as this Surface.
Adam A-K you’re greatly underestimating what the base iPad and iPad Air can do. Besides, Logitech has a great keyboard accessory that costs about $150 and uses the smart connector on the iPad. Together, the base iPad can be a pretty good laptop replacement.

My Magic keyboard makes my iPad a thousand times better than any Mac or Windows for my Pro use. (I want a 500 dollar version made of aluminum lol)
From what I can see, the Surface is a shitty tablet 😅 I had a 10.3 Acer Transformer a few years back and I never enjoyed it as a tablet (or as a computer since it's top heaviness was way too much).

I have the first gen surface go and it’s amazing, as a highschool student transitioning to college, it does everything I need it to. This looks just as great and I highly recommend it.
Since there are different specs for surface go 2 I assume there are multiple choices for the first surface. Which specs does your have and do you use it with a stylus? If yes, how good is the stylus? Is watching TH-cam or Netflix a good experience too?
I used a surface pro 3 all thru college and now im using it to work from home in my finance job. Love the Surface products! Mines 4-5 years old and still running strong.
BanDragon Mines the 64 gig with 4gigs of ram. Netflix and TH-cam are no problem for it

FoRzi what resolution screen were you watching on? What resolution was selected on TH-cam? The surface was recording at 1080p so if you have 720p or 1080p selected on TH-cam it wouldn’t look much different. Maybe you could see better if you are watching on a 4K screen and could select 4K as a resolution in TH-cam(if Lew uploaded a 4K file).
Maybe use a different resolution than 144p and you can easily see a difference, it was a good webcam but to a studio cam? LOL come the fuck on.

My "old" Surface Go 1 is playing this video in 4K with 3 more windows open in the browser. Smooth with no problem at all

The 4GB 64GB eMMC Surface Go 2 is absolutely fine for Office 365, email, Netflix, TH-cam, MS edge. Multiple web pages, full blown multiple Excel, Word, PowerPoint files, multiple TH-cam channels can be opened at the same time. It reads and writes to a microSD card pretty fast. So, for a secondary PC it's worth it for business users / office goers. As a primary PC, the screen size might be a bit of a limiting factor. Overall, it's a great device even in it's lowest configuration for the type of usage mentioned above.

I have a Surface Go and it's still good. Would recommend it, I mean the Surface Go 2 just has a bit bigger display and some more horsepower but I mean you can get Surface Go for much cheaper and still dose the same thing. If you don't need a lot of battery but u still need a laptop to go or for drawing ( I do art on it) then Surface Go is probably for you. (Also would be great for taking notes in class so maybe Hightschooler or student).Just research it well and if you do decide to buy it please when buying a pen, keyboard and a mouse find the best prices. It will take you time but believe me its worth it.

If you already have the first one, I don't think you need to upgrade unless there's something you can't do on the one you have or if it is getting too slow.
Even if there's something you can't do on it, instead of upgrading it would be better to get a SP7.
The power of the SG2 isn't enough to just dish your old one.

Definitely, I got the original pen, keyboard, and mouse. It is more expensive to get original but I think it is worth it in the long run. You should try to find the best prices on eBay but be sure they are original. I would advise you to get a port so that you have a USB, SD card, and more. I have the one specifically for the Surface Go.

I agree. In the future, I'm personally going to try to get a good PC and a screen tablet to connect to it. It will be expensive but as this is my main ”computer” it can be a bit slow but I don't mind for now. So I should keep that in mind.

I have been using the first Surface Go as a student for the past year and despite the great video, I think you missed the biggest student-friendly feature which is the pen support. I just use it as a note taking little machine for lectures and what not. Surprisingly useful!

@@powerfuljones Turn on developer mode man. You can use any windows app on any windows. If your windows is running in S mode you can turn it of by an app from store which allows you to install any exe later. If you have windows you're not limited to anything.

SG2 with Pentinum Gold processor (8 ram, 128 ssd) is an outstanding. I get 11 hours of continuous TH-cam viewing (50% brightness; Battery saver, Bluetooth,and Wifi all on). Screen is bright and when lowered to zero (save battery) you can still watch videos and/or read documents.
With 10 TH-cam videos running, no lag or stuttering occurred when opening webpages. MS Office apps, notetaking, web browsing work effortlessly. Can run statistical software (R-Studio) with no problems. Tablet mode is fast, smooth, and fluid.
Only downside are speakers and price. But who buys tech at full retail price? $389 for SG2 and $44 for type cover.

I wish they would do a mini version of this. I work online so when I go on vacation I need my machine on my person since I still work. I need something I can bring in my handbag all day that weighs very little. The surface has everything I need but the weight is still a little high, and an ipad mini with lightweight accessories would weigh significantly less. I'd still pick ipad mini despite it being inconvenient in literally every other way, and that says a lot because I honestly hate apple. People always skip the weight in reviews but my shoulder tells me it's the #1 factor when picking an on-the-go machine!

I've been looking for a new computer for school and personal use. I've enjoyed Microsoft Surface products since they launched many years ago but I couldn't justify the cost to performance rato until recently. I saw this video and promptly went out and bought the $600 version that Lew was testing. I've been using it for the past few days and I love it. I'm not a graphic designer or a creative user. I used to be a machinist and did 3d modeling and cnc programming. I know what that kind of professional work takes and I also know that employers usually provide computers to use for that. I'm sure that this is a great main computer for anyone who wants to use it for personal stuff. I checked and the USB-C supports display out so if you want a larger screen at times buy a desktop monitor. I'm very impressed with my computer.

I see a lot of people don't realize why a $399 pentium/4gb model exists, but they forget that people tend to have not a single device for everything. If you have a gaming laptop as I do or a powerful desktop pc, which don't have anything interesting other than power but do their job great at video production, gaming, working in CAD software, you may find the base surface go model useful as it's compact, cheap, allows you to interact with the pen, and simply have a lightweight windows machine at school, library, cafe (yeah, unfortunately not in 2020 :( ). It's actually a great piece of hardware for students. It works great with google apps, office, it's great for taking notes (for me it's an infinite notebook, I stopped using paper at all). It fits any desk because of its size and leaves a lot of additional space for textbooks or any stuff than you can want. It's a great machine for 400 bucks if you use it as a SECONDARY DEVICE, it's important to repeat. It's great not to upgrade to, but to supplement a decent EXISTING pc.

Hi. I’m a Iphone user for almost 5 years. I’ve been using all the apple stuff and I’ve been pretty pleased with them, but I’m in college and I need a portable laptop and I certainly take the Surface Go 2 over the IPad. The one big reason is that’s it’s more compatible with apps and I’ll need that comparability over the IPad “ luxury “

I am a student and used the Surface Go for about a year and a half. I just upgraded to a Surface Pro 4 because I needed to open bigger files than the Go was happy about. They are wonderful machines!

Hey Lou, know you'll never see this, but the trick I always used to use to boost speaker volume on something like this or a laptop was to goto the devices audio properties and engage the loudness mode, it's a universal device setting. Thanks for the vid Lou, take care!

That is NOT true. It depends HOW you use the base model. The differences can be minor if you "only" run 2-3 apps at a time. Even the eMMC isn't that kind of a big slowdown many people like to believe. There a videos out there which prove this.
No wonder why Microsoft also offers Go 2 business model (which can be obtained by everyone) which has 4 GB RAM, 64 GB eMMC like the consumer base model, but comes with the Core m3 and W10 Pro - at a very attractive price.
I'm an engineering student and the surface pro 7 has been a lifesaver for note taking and school in general!
