I have an Garmin Aera 660 that has all or close to what I need for navigation and traffic but I NEED an autopilot that can couple to the navigator to accomplish RNAV / GPS approaches. With the G5 / GFC500 / GPS 175 combination it appears that this an affordable path for my 1976 Mooney! I think GARMIN has finally got it right for the "not so rich" GA guys and gals!
I like it very much. Gtn650 was a little to bit overkill with price and functionality for european market and older aircraft. This simpler gps is perfect candidate to replace my very loved kln94.
I do like the touch interfaces, but I should say that (with the G500 txi) I have already encountered problems using the mode in the air. Trying to touch an object like a destination airport on the map while bouncing around in turbulence is difficult.
Using the GNX375 that has ADS-B in/out Am I be able to have ADS-B capabilities on the Garmin Pilot at the same time?. It would be nice if so since the I pad has a larger screen. Can it be used on a certified aircraft? if not what model is comparable to to it?
Pretty bad that I can't get the app for Android. I bought an GNX375 and its the first product I purchased with this "Garmin UI" so I find myself unfamiliar. I guess I have to learn in the airplane. Thanks Garmin!
April? We get one of those every year. I wish more TH-cam channels actually said what year. Judging by the comments that were posted two years ago, I can probably figure it out. By the way, I’m posting this comment on February 27, 2022.
In doing consumer reporting please don’t repeat the marketing practice deception of "99", "95", etc. Round up to the even amount. The units introduced in the report cost five thousand dollars ($5,000) and eight thousand dollars ($8,000) and in reality the cost is even more when any shipping and taxes are added. Consumer Reports and the New York Times adhere to this practice.
John Buick The marketing deception of "9" has been going on for about a half a century and it wouldn’t be done if it wasn’t effective in preventing the psychological resistance to the high rounded number.
Went looking to see the STC's for Cessna Aircraft. Seen to have 172's, 337's and a few others. No 182's, 206 or 210 series. No value here for the people who have the aircraft with no STC Docs. The actual display could be a lot better when viewing it in person. A very hefty price tag for what you are getting.
Is it too expensive to make a bigger screen?? Why that small screen? Is it to make aircraft owners to buy the more expensive avionic with the bigger screen? Just asking
What makes this calculator with a screen and a GPS receiver cost $5,000? FAA Certification? The only benefit I can see with these boxes over an iPad with ADS-B in/out is Autopilot integration. Even so, that’s a lot of cash for a tiny screen with a clunky interface.
If you have ADS-B in/out, then this product (specifically the GNX 375) isn't for you. Regarding the WAAS equipped GPS 175, you can't shoot an LPV approach on your iPad, so that's one benefit.
Angelo Cosentino absolutely. I was mainly commenting (dramatically) on the hardware and questioning what could make these boxes so expensive for GA pilots in certified aircraft - when compared to processing power and user interfaces in consumer electronics the cost of Garmin and some other avionics suites seem pretty high! Especially when you get into all-in-one Garmin panels in the 5-6 figure arena. I suppose development, certification cost, and relatively low production volume are the largest cost drivers. That, and they know we’ll pay for it!
Market size and demand. Developing a product that at best will sell a few thousand units a year is an expensive proposition. If the GA aircraft was even 1/4 the size of the automotive fleet we would have products like these for not much more then a cars GPS/Radio/multimedia stereo upgrade.
@@NoNonsenseScalping excuse me? You really take the time to say that on someone else's comment. That's what the comment was section is for. You are coming off as a total snob, we have enough of those in the aviation field as it is.
I think a big benefit of the model that is a GPS and transponder is that you frequently have to buy those two items together for your ADS-B out upgrade anyway. To me it feels like such a natural combination I'm a little surprised that it took them this long to come out with it. If I hadn't just got my airplane out of the shop last month with a new transponder I'd probably be talking to my avionics guy about one of these. A $10k GPS was a little out of my range.
It fits into the space left from removing your old transponder or GPS with minimal panel modification needed. Installing a big-screen 650 or 750 takes a lot more changes to make room, and that all adds up to more installation cost very quickly.
The Fis-b weather graphics look just horrible. They look like they're 8 bit. Someone dropped the ball on that one. It will sink their whole product unless they can improve it up to at least 32 bit graphics. 64 would be better.
The other reality is that you should not be zooming in on ADSB weather to figure out if you can "squeeze" between two cells or weeve your way through. A big block is good enough to stay the however many miles you feel comfortable...
That's the GPS with transponder. The basic GPS is $4995. Add in what is essentially a GTX 345 into the same box for 3k more and you'll be seeing a lot of these taking the place of old King GPS units. Overall, not a bad price for a basic IFR GPS/transponder combo.
I'm looking to upgrade my panel in a few months. So much overlapping stuff I'm overwhelmed and confused on which way to go.

Finally! A replacement for my KLN 89B
Does this only Bluetooth connect with GarminPilot app or with Foreflight, etc?.
Major drawback for me
Amazing what's avail these days, back in the 70's I would have killed for just a DME in my light A/C!😉

40k panel upgrades are going to slow way down. LPV capability is now a sub 10k upgrade!

Please do a report on the certified G3x
why was there no explanation of the PROC function?
With these two products, Garmin has just killed the used market for GNS500W/400W.
I hope so!
Hardly...people are still listing them for barely below retail.
Have to agree, products are hitting the market so fast these days the worth of older products is being dumped!
not so! the gns is also a com, this adds adsb and replaces the old transponder
They were all way over priced.
Will it connect to ForeFlight and allow flight plan transfers or do you have to use Garmin Pilot?
Left Seat Aviation I’m certain it will given the fact that Foreflight uses the Conext platform for that now, all the way back to the G1000

Who gives a flying funk what the New York Times Thinks? Commie.
Works with I- pad, what about Android?
Can someone post the link to the app please? I can't find it. Thank you

Is it compatible with Foreflight?
YES
It better have video out to a larger display. What are you thinking once again Garmin.
Bluetooths to your iPad

Bennett Kuwan I imagine it is the same slot size as the old Bendix King GPS units (KN97?), and that’s what they are targeting.

Try doing an lpv approach on your iPad.

whats that benefit of these over a gtn650 again?

No COMM radio so it's cheaper.
Nothing other then being half the price.
TINY display ... Why?
For using the tablet as the main display.

Good sound on the demonstrator, thanks. “Pinch-to-zoom" is a misnomer. You spread to zoom-in/enlarge and pinch to zoom-out/make smaller.
Bruce John Shourt
Couldn’t agree more, excellent demonstration in plain English.
Great coverage. Hey Paul, how about a smile? :)
She sounds like pam from the office
It's only $49.95???
She say it, I‘ll pay it... ;-)

it was way to zoomed in
You are a tard if you are looking at FIS-B weather on that thing. You connect to your ipad, then look at FIS-B on your tablet with foreflight.
The other reality is that you should not be zooming in on ADSB weather to figure out if you can "squeeze" between two cells or weeve your way through. A big block is good enough to stay the however many miles you feel comfortable...

$8,000 for a fancy GPS.........seriously???

and the ADS-B mandate.... so its basically a 3000 dolar WAAS IFR GPS so its cheap.
texasfly99 With the TXP it’s not a bad value.
Cuanto vale en Amazon
Cual esel precio
Its 2019. Why do the graphics suck
This is VFR? No approaches? No thanks.
my understanding is that this allows ifr approaches and lets you file / golf
Of course it's approach certified. No one has built a panel mount VFR GPS in 20 years.
it was the app slected for the destination airport in the demo. this unit has LPV aproaches, making any airport IFR to LOC GS minimums.
