The Three Rivers Jinx - Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cleveland Browns

  • Webster's Dictionary defines the verb "to hex" as "to affect if by an evil spell." In the NFL, hex is defined as "that which happened to the Cleveland Browns whenever they played in Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium." From the facility's opening in 1970 through 1985, the Browns made 16 trips to Pittsburgh... and came home losers 16 times. This great "Distant Replay" clip from 1995 details the "Three Rivers Jinx" and features interviews with past coaches and players. A very entertaining watch which was broadcast before the "original" Browns' final trip the Three Rivers on Monday Night Football in 1995, which ironically, would be their 7th straight defeat in a "new" losing streak in Pittsburgh.

    History did repeat itself, from 2004 until 2020 the Browns lost 17 straight games in Pittsburgh, then the Browns beat the Steelers in the playoffs in Pittsburgh to break that streak. God Bless everyone

    Thanks for uploading this. I love the website too. Is there a possibility of getting more games from the 1976 season?

      Unfortunately, everything that's currently known to be available from '76 is posted on our site.

      You’re doing a great thing for Steelers fans. It’s unfortunate the networks couldn’t save more of the game tapes.

      alfjgist, the crazy thing is, they (the NFL and networks) have access to most (if not all) of these games. The tapes are there, with perhaps a handful of exceptions. They just don’t make them available.

    The browns were 0-16 at 3 rivers after 1985, how ironic. Cleveland finished 2017 with a loss in Pittsburgh

    The Browns list all those games because they weren't good enough to win them. Close games, blowouts, doesn't matter. Browns weren't good enough.
    Cleveland has won six games in Pittsburgh since 1969. Four wins were against losing teams. (1986, 1988, 1999, 2003). The other two (1987 & 1989) were against an 8-7 team and a 9-7 team.

      Penguins Fan, agreed 100%. When Clay Matthews claims it had nothing to do with the Steelers being the better team, he's full of it. Other than 1985, which was the final year of the jinx, the Steelers were consistently better, and at time exponentially better.
      Speaking of exponentially better, it's pretty remarkable that Cleveland's current losing streak in Pittsburgh stands at 17 games.

      The Brownies finally got another win in Pittsburgh this year. First good team we've had in years.

      @@EkumPokum I wanted the Browns to beat the Steelers worse than the did so that the Steelers would get rid of that overrated Tomlin. Count on the Steelers to get blown out in the playoffs.

      Have you also considered making a select number of your TH-cam channel videos private and providing the URLs to members only?

    • @mcmillenandwife
      @mcmillenandwife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffersonianideal , I have considered it. But TH-cam has algorithms that instantly block many games (the 1978 AFC Championship, for instance). They recognize certain video and audio elements. Most of what I upload is instantly blocked. That's why we use the website. We can share any videos we want with no restriction.

      Got it. Thanks for the explanation. I am wondering how some other unloaders manage to fool the algorithm monster, at least long enough for subscribers to be able to grab the video prior to it vaporizing.

    • @mcmillenandwife
      @mcmillenandwife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffersonianideal, not all videos are impacted. There are definitely a select few that are instantly shot down. Some get through and are later struck down either manually or by additional copyright-related algorithms. In the TH-cam control panel, there's an explanation of what happened next to videos when this happens, so you can see when things are manually targeted, etc. It's a mystery to me why/how some games survive while others don't. I have an AMAZINGLY high quality recording of the '79 Steelers/Browns overtime game. It gets immediately struck down every time I try to post it. Yet, the crappy quality version I accidentally posted 2 years ago is still on TH-cam. Why? I have no idea.
