  • In this episode of the Ultimate Browns Show Garrett Bush talkS about the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49'ers trade rumours involving Amari Cooper and Brandon Aiyuk. For the latest Cleveland Browns news tune in to the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show! #ucss
San Francisco 49ers star receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been the subject of trade talks recently with the Cleveland Browns now being thrown into the ring. Aiyuk, who was awarded a Second-Team All-Pro selection for this past season, is a pending free agent for the Niners and there's been no short of rumblings as to whether or not he'll stay in San Fran long term. There are few teams who would pass on the opportunity to get Aiyuk, but does it make sense for the Browns to become one of his suitors?
The 49ers don't seem to want to spend more than $26 million per season on a wide receiver. Unfortunately for the 49ers, the wide receiver market exploded this offseason and elite ones suddenly are worth more than $30 million per season. And Brandon Aiyuk was an All Pro last season, and now he wants an extension that pays him what the market says he's worth.
The 49ers could cave and give Aiyuk what he wants, or they could trade him for another wide receiver who's almost as good and much cheaper. Someone such as Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper.
Cooper also has one year left on his deal and wants an extension, but he's 30 years old so he's not worth as much as Aiyuk, who wants a three- or four-year extension. Cooper wants a two-year extension that won't pay him anywhere near $30 million per season.
It seems like Cooper fits the 49ers' salary-cap structure much better than Aiyuk does. And Cooper is a similar player. Last season he had 72 catches, averaged 17.4 yards per reception and caught 5 touchdown passes while Aiyuk had 75 catches, averaged 17.9 yards per reception and caught 7 touchdown passes.
The question is whether Aiyuk fits the Browns' salary structure. They have a ton of money invested in quarterback Deshaun Watson and might not be able to invest in a top-level wide receiver as well. It's possible they simply want to get cheaper at the position. But if they want to spend their money on a receiver in his prime, they should call the 49ers.

No deal. Amari is the quintessential pro and team player. Aiyuk, while talented, I hear is a locker room problem and too high priced and self centered. Pay Amari, and let's get on with our SB season.

We would have to give uo too much. And we shouldn't give up anyone in defense! I do feel like Cooper is injury prone so that's a little scary too.

I love aramri, one of the best all time route runners, hes had 7 seasons over 1k yards. Im happy he was able to break the single game recieving record with flacco as his qb this year. I will always see those two smiling and laughing on the sidelines together as browns after getting that record. Nfl history right there flacco to cooper!

If ayunk is a good locker room match I would do it in a heartbeat because he is younger

Nope, we will have to pay him, just draft like Egbuka if he is available.

I understand getting younger but I think people are exaggerating Cooper’s age. The guy just absolutely killed it last season. Does it seem reasonable that he’s going to totally fall off a cliff after this season? Hard to imagine, especially for a guy whose strength is not athleticism but precise and disciplined route running. I would extend Cooper and use those other assets on retaining guys like Emerson and JOK.

I’m with you I can’t pull the trigger on it, I love coop and auyiuk is just looking for his bag, and yeah not willing to part with the defense of players. Plus Deshaun hasn’t proved it yet and he’s got enough weapons to have an excellent yr. Just saying

NO DEAL!!!!! What we would have to give up by signing Aiyuk to 30+ million would not be worth it.

No. Period. No. He is part of the heart. The heart. The go to guy. You lose Coop and the running back’s knee doesn’t work out. Well, you be staring at 6-11.

The Browns haven't been mentioning anything. It's the silly media mentioning this rhetoric.

As a Niner Fan I say HELL NO......Of course Cleveland would like Aiyuk it allows your team to get younger. Cooper is 30, He is also on the last year of his contract so what, SF is suppose to take him and then be in the same position next season when this guy wants a new contract? Oh but wait, Cooper is already asking for a new contract which some say should be around 22 million per year. Why in the hell should SF give up Aiyuk, take on an aging Cooper and still have to pay him 22+ million per year? NO NO NO......
Trade's should be fair....We'll take one of your top CB's for Aiyuk and some draft capital.....You can't dish off your aging talent and expect to keep all your best players on the team and add to it by fleecing another team....
Any trade must be for a quality player in a position of need for the Niners AND draft Capital if you're going to receive a top 5 receiver in the NFL.

If San Fran is really looking to trade him we have to look at it from there perspective, as to what they think they need, they may not want Cooper, they may want picks and want some of your young defensive talent, remember that they also drafted a receiver

Why would the 49ers do it? They gonna keep him and let him go after the season.
