    The comic strip Dennis the Menace in the US appeared at the same time the UK character of the same name showed up in Beano. The US TV series was named Just Dennis in UK. Ronnie Howard left to be on Andy Griffith Show

    Originally telecast on May 15, 1960. Subtle reference at :08 to the show's original sponsor, Kellogg's {cereal box tops}.

    Not old enough to remember party lines, but I had a very early cordless phone that let me listen in on other people's conversations.

    This was the version of Dennis the Menace that inspired Matt Groening to create Bart Simpson.

    That is so funny when Dennis and his friends have a telephone party in an empty house.

      Vacant houses don't normally have the phone connected.

    The real fun was dialing 11911, then hang up. All phones rung in the house. Does not work now.

    Say! That kid on the right of Dennis @2:05 is actor/director Ron Howard! This pre-dates the Andy Griffith Show he starred in.

      Party lines ended where I lived (Phoenix, AZ) in 1967 as I recall. It could be a real problem if the ones on your party line were jabberboxes. Then I moved to Ft Smith, Arkansas in 1990 and across the line in Oklahoma they still had party lines until 1992.

      If you're serious, I'll be glad to explain. A "party line" is where everyone in one area shares the same telephone land line. This was much cheaper than supplying an independent line to each individual and having a switch board to connect each line. Each person had a special ring to know the call coming in was for you. The thing was, anyone could pick up the phone and listen into your conversation, or even butt in. This was quite common in rural areas and smaller towns (and even some neighborhoods in some cities) around the country once upon a time. This was also how the local busy body got her information and "dirt" on everyone. I know someone who was still on a party line in the 1980s.

    This particular ep was funny, but otherwise I never liked this show. I have seen several eps.That kid is such a brat because his parents allow him to run wild. No matter what he does, he's never punished. The show is annoying and shouldn't have lasted one season. That Jay North always irked me. Everyone else on the show is okay. I never thought the comic strip was funny either.

    • @bloqk16
      @bloqk16 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      During that era of Dennis the Menace, he would have been given a spanking by the generation of parents in that era.
