One thing I notice you saying a lot is the word 'normal'. What exactly is that? I have had bi-polar for 36 years, half my lifetime. I am not trendy. Never have been. I am kind, generous and very crafty, in the 'arty ' sense. I also cut off some of my family in order to survive! Are 'people" who are nasty to others on social media, normal. What do we set this normal bar against. No, we are all variations of normal! I will be 73 next week, with a loving husband of 51 years, a son and daughter and their families. I love them and my crafts with a passion, and you, my dear, with your brightly coloured hair and the way you speak, are just adorable and normal! And, or course very talented! No need for labels!

I probably should have used the word 'neurotypical', but I guess (because this video was not scripted) that I used the word 'normal' as one that was flung at me a lot - I have had people trying to force me to fit in to neurotypical society my whole life. I also use the word 'normal' to mean 'mainstream', 'acceptable', what most people aim to be. I assume that bipolar is also a form of neurodiversity.

Thank you for being so honest and sharing your story, Michelle. I have a couple of close relatives who are neurodivergent (diagnosed Asperger's) and your comments help me understand them even better. Consider me an ally. I personally think we are all on a spectrum and I recognize some characteristics in myself. I congratulate you on finding a space to be yourself. Keep making videos -- I'm new to tapestry and have picked up some great tips here!

Thanks Nancy! The term 'aspergers' isn't used anymore, as it's under the ASD umbrella 😉 And while a lot of people are on the spectrum, we're not ALL on the spectrum, otherwise we wouldn't even bother differentiating. Getting a diagnosis isn't about one or two singular traits, (and I only mentioned a few of mine) - it's about how I live my whole life as a whole. Just because someone else may be obsessive, for example, doesn't mean they are on the spectrum ... it's all the traits added together 😉
I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos!

@@ThreefoldDesigns Thank you for the clarification. Yes, their diagnoses were given pre-2013 when the Asperger's term was still being used. How quickly things evolve! I am inspired to go learn more. Thanks!

I can't believe how much similarities we have, Michelle.
I always try not to think about my condition, and I would just hyper-focus on finishing my projects and reaching goals. I guess it's how I cope and distract myself from ruminating.
I admire that you are able to understand your neuro divergency.

Hi Michelle, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️
Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast. This was very interesting to hear.
I don't think there's been as much emphasis on "Autism and ADHD," has there should have been. I think a lot of cidren who went to "Special Needs Schiols" on maybe the 50's through to now, have had the correct diagnosis.
I get what you was saying about your Parents and what school was like.
I'm not sure that any of ux are completely ",normal", we all have our own "quirks "..
I understand what you said about being bullied in school, my son was bullied, ot just made him work harder than anything else, he left school with more GCSE's thsn anyone else. He went to college and had A* Distinctions all the way through.( I'm not sure what the equivalent qualifications are in Australia, from in England)
So I completely understand your determination to be the best you can be at anything and everything you do.
You're definitely an inspiration to us All here, probably from the youngest one's but definitely to us Oldies.
Just keep on being you, you're very much appreciated. 🌟✨️🌟
    Happy Weaving Fibre Friend 🎉🐑🥰
    Take care and stay safe
Lots of love, Blessings and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🐕

Fellow ASD tapestry weaver here. Do you think that your attraction to weaving has something to do with your autism? Personally, I am very detail oriented and tapestry weaving satisfies my desire for detail, pattern etc while also being experimental.
