That's great to hear about going to 6 cats. Should make for closer racing each week. It can be disheartening waking up at 4 am on Sundays knowing you're going to be spit out the back in the first 30 minutes, or need to set all-time PRs just to place 20th.
I really like that you are going to increase the number of categories in SRC and that you are going to have prize money for each. I also think awarding "virtual" prize money, gems, for a large number of riders, perhaps even all finishers, might encourage more people to participate in races.
40:04 Very nice, love to see virtual shifting in the near future 👍 recently bought a trainer with zwift cog and thought, it shouldn't be long until someone reverse-engineered it
Cool that Elimination launched. On the Worlds note. I'm heavily leaning toward elimination ought to be its own discipline. It's a very specific type of fitness to have that much on the line. Or need to make whatever the game modes to be used a part of premium events on the regular to set the Elite standard of genre. Imagine Apex Legends making their biggest worlds competition dependent on some random game mode thrown in among their usual BR mode. The teams never play or practice those modes, but they are fun for community participation. They are fun, but they are much more random and not as rewarding of merit based competition. Or similar imagine World champ road IRL decided by a track race thrown in middle of it. I'm all for defining the virtual cycling discipline over time, but needs formats that are nuanced towards merit based competition/gaming which the platform has the extremely nuanced game dynamics interactivity for, and needs to be well established in elite competition for the ingrained hours of memory in minds and muscles for what is considered mastery of a professional.
Awesome episode. And awesome work Matt and the MW team on the growth of the platform and the fantastic developments! So grateful!
