I personally saw a 9ft tiger shark in the waters off Kahuku Pt. swim toward Malaekahana Park in 2002. Sharks are everywhere. Some people are lucky while others not so.

OMG! This is so tragic. Its stunning in that we rightfully consider our Lifeguards as guardians and heroes. I am very saddened by this though I never met the man. This will while this will be painful for the entire community on O'ahu and well beyond, he obviously set a great example of how to live with and love the ocean.
Damn. I knew Tamayo when he was a little kid! LIke, little-little. We lived in Punalu'u next to Kaya's store, and Tamayo and his mom and dad lived in the same little cluster of houses we did. It was like ... out of the houses maybe 1-2 had a working telephone at any given time. It was very humble times back then.
Oh wow i stayed in that huge concrete condo building next to the OLD HAWAIIAN CEMETERY &WEE CHAPEL . Went to that old store with the yummy food being cooked up at the back if store. Damn good. Really cool temp wise it rained ever afternoon. Not swimming waters for sure pritty rough out there. Me no go.

I think for most sharks that is the case. Not with tiger sharks though. They’re responsible for almost every fatal attack in Hawaii, and they take more than one curious bite.

Stay outa the water and you won’t be shark food…a shark could care less about your stature in life

Sharks have been extremely aggressive this year. Water temperature is very hot and it’s changing the dynamics.
Or sharks are just doing what they always do or have done for millions of years - eat anything they can that’s available to them. I don’t understand why everyone keeps making excuses for shark attacks. It’s very simple. You get in the water, a shark may decide you are his or her dinner. Period.

So weird. I've honestly never heard of a shark attacking at noon. Tiger sharks sleep during the day 99 percent of the time. Tiger sharks usually only hunt at night or dusk or early dawn. It's even weirder when one considers the fact that he's a surfing and ocean safety expert. A tiger shark big enough to kill a man that size can be seen from afar. I'm also surprised we don't have any witnesses claiming any screaming could be heard. So sorry for everyone's loss. This is literally a one in a billion, trillion , trillion liklihood tragedy.
Yeah I thought sharks don’t attack humans unless provoked…something seems off…

@@EeZ3-808 The only sharks that close in to the shore that actually attack humans are tiger sharks. We don't have great white sharks ( that I know of ), and even if one was spotted , it would be very far off shore.
Tiger Shark come in like a missile when they see a target im sure he didn’t know what hit him on the first strike
Truly sad but he died loving what he did. Not sure why you felt the need to bring awareness that he was on his lunch break?! Sounds as if the city doesn’t want to pay for his death?!
