I don’t blame you for your views. I love postwar and MPC trains. I buy them all the time. In fact I just bought a MPC Amtrak set with 4 motors, 8 pickup rollers for next to nothing with 6 passengers cars. These two locomotives will pull anything when double headed. 👍
I agree, when I buy a locomotive, the only extras I want are a light, and smoke. I refuse to pay $1700 for crew talk, or a lighted fire box, or a bell that moves back/forth when bell sound activated.
In my opinion, I like the way Lionel is doing something (Sort of) by the way this catalog kust release right on my birthday on July 18th. 3:35 I love this one. 4:36 Love these Main Northern and Susquehanna SD70M2s 5:05 SOUTHERN PACIFIC!!!!! 5:17 Well i kinda like these, and hudson looks fine better than that money eating Triplax 6:19 That CNW looks dope. 6:33 The y6bs are back......7:01 but don't get me started on these ugh. 11:20 Beetlejuice is nice, can't wait to see that movie.

Just FYI there's a new Beetlejuice movie coming out in the next few weeks or so. That's what those cars are probably tied into, but I agree they really should have made some of the buildings from the attic diorama like their house or maybe the covered bridge with their Volvo station wagon crashing through it or something. Anyway, just thought I'd chime in with the info. Keep up the good work, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks that the pricing on Lionel's stuff is outrageous at times.
I have one more comment about new Lionel products vs buying old and even building something yourself. In the new catalog they offer a car simulating carrying a tank load. Several years ago my friend and I built a beer tank car on our own. We bought cheep flat cars at a train show and glued on a beer can from one of our favorite beers. The car looks as good as any of the new cars showed in the catalog but cost us about $5.00 for the flat car and an empty can of our favorite beer. You could do the same with soda cans or print and wrap a printer label around any can and have your own custom modular tank car for a lot less than what Lionel is asking. Same thing for sounds on your railroad. With digital media you could do like American Flyer did years ago. Put a speaker in a building near the tracks and hit a button to simulate whatever sound you wanted to program into that location. For example near a yard track have the dispatcher talk to the engineer on the train to give orders for that train to proceed. With today’s easy to use recording devices, it should not be too hard to do for even beginners. Best of luck to all our model train operators to continue to have fun with their trains.

Couldn't agree more. I think if Lionel took all the money they spend on licensing all the pop culture stuff and spent it instead on new locomotives and cars for the Traditional O/semi scale line, they'd be better off. I'd argue Menards is getting to be a better and better value if you want to buy new. The new cars and all the new paint schemes for their F unit are peaking my interest.
I agree that these prices are insane! Who does Lionel think will buy these trains? They are not going to be bought people like me that has a large Lionel layout in my attic but have not bought any new Lionel engines or cars in the last few years mainly due to cost. I have bought many older used cars and new engines from other manufactures. Until Lionel reduces their prices I will no longer be a customer of their products.
It’s funny people give me sh$t for how expensive live steam trains are, then seeing all the recycling crap that Lionel is overpriced. That’s the reason I like vintage 2 rail o scale it’s cheaper and looks better.
Expensive china sourced plastic junk as far as I’m concerned. No way that I’d even consider any of that Chinese crap currently offered. But as once said a fool is often separated from his money. American pre/post war use stuff is the only Lionel in my house.
