I think you're getting the feel of this show, it's about the dialogue and characters, the events are just an excuse for them to interact. The town is full of characters, it's a small town and everyone knows each other's business. It's all about the journey, not the destination.
Even though it's way different it reminds me of Northern Exposure. They build a town full of weird and wonderful people. Then they use the plot to mix the various characters so we can watch the interactions.
About 4 years ago, I remember being bored one Sunday morning. Sat down to watch something on Netflix. Saw Gilmore Girls listed, and remembered hearing that the show had a long run and loyal fanbase, and I was thinking why? What do people see in drama shows like this? (I thought). I then proceeded to fevereshly watch the entire series, over the next few weeks. I love it. Can't even tell you exactly why, but I do actually love it.

This is still a favorite show of mine, and such a nostalgic thing to re-watch it with you in this way, so... thank you for that. Loved your reaction and I love how often this show makes you laugh despite the fact that it is indeed a slow-paced show and something you wouldn't usually watch :) That's why I like Gilmore Girls - even though it doesn't have too much drama or unexpected twists, it's very entertaining and enjoyable. Also, about the funeral - you might think it's ridiculous that they would make such a dramatic funeral for a cat, but that's Stars Hollow. They make a big deal out of everything. Even the town meetings are a huge spectacle xD
It appeals to people who have relationships and touches them because they experience it. Its village life, mostly where neighbours are important and life isn't contaminated by foul language and violence. It's a warm, fuzzy feel-good show.
Sometimes you have to even question whether or not life will even let you go to funerals for people you know, so most of the time if you didn't know them it would be awkward. What I like about this show is that they make even the most _"Full House"_ of situations dramatic and humorous. Despite saying all that with this episode, the funeral part of this episode to the audience (or perhaps it was just me) seemed more awkward than dramatic or comedic, but perhaps that is what they were going for.
I think this episode is my favorite one of them all. There are other good ones too, but if you could see only one episode of Gilmore girls, this would be it.
