Thanks for this video. I am a Christian and had my own journey that led me to my faith. I am strong enough in my faith to listen to another's point of view. I respect you for giving an explanation for your non belief. You took the time and actually did your own research to come to your own conclusion. I am in no way going to bash you or tell you that you are wrong etc. it is your choice to believe it not. Other Christians who have commented on your video are great examples of why Christianity isn't held in very high regard.

our fruit of first knowledge would have been meant to allow us
fo hear of many ways - this, regardless of its source, has been
present since the beginning of mind.. to achieve such a level is
a strange triumph & builds what is best, from all we may hear.!
the credit for doing so, matters to some degree, but, the interest
you showed & your chosen approach as described, is something
that others of such discipline can appreciate - as mentioned..!!

In regards to there being multiple gods, there are at least a couple of verses in the official Bible where 'god' is speaking and says "let us go down", or other references to "us". While theologians may say this is the Trinity referring to itself, it seems more of a conference between multiple separate entities. I know this is an ancient video, but still.

Free will is not a gift to just take for granted, it's a gift from God yes, but it's a responsibility.
Parents buy us gifts for Christmas, but they don't let us go do what ever we want with it, they give us responsibility. A car for example, you would not let your kids drive where ever they wanted to, you give them rules. God gives us rules with free will.

Christian here, would love to have discussions with either or both of you. Nothing you say will upset me. Judges 8 (iirc) makes it clear that fighting on behalf of your god against perceived insults/blasphemy means you yourself lack faith. "Will ye plead for Baal? Will ye save him? If he be a god, let him plead for himself."
I'm openminded and read LaVey before coming to faith. We may end up agreeing on a lot - let's see whether we can change each other's minds or at least learn something new.

Ancient City of Eridu. Ea (Enki) was the Sumerian god of water. Ea made a great flood to happen on the land because he was not pleased with his creation. The only man that was left after the flood was Tagtug the weaver. Tagtug could eat from any tree, except the Cassia tree. which bestowed immortality. Ea's wife was called Ninhursag (Damkina) she was known as the "lady of the rib". She was the goddess of the world and had great knowledge she shared with Tagtug. Forbidden knowledge in Sumerian language is forbidden fruit. When Ea finds out Tagtug wants more knowledge, he curses him with sickness and a short mortality.
    Does this story sound familiar?

I do know something Supernatural does exist...that has been proven to me beyond a doubt. I can't prove my experiences nor would I even argue the point anymore. but I know for myself that over a decade I have had several experiences of things that just don't happen *happen*..
I Was about to call it quits one night and I was sober and a man came to me and said he was a servant of God and was sent to give me a message. what he said to me and told me blew my mind... there was no way possible for anyone to know or predict the following next few days but he told me exactly what to expect...
The next decade was a lot of ups and downs....I have been though a lot of tests...
That is what our time on earth here is.....It's a test for our souls.... I do believe this to be true..
*I believe our lives would be much more fulfilling without religion*...
I hate evil and violence.....I wish that was not tolerated by anyone period.... It's all a big head fuck..

      Heavenly Parents
All human beings are beloved spirit children of Heavenly Parents (see “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”). Because of our divine parentage, we each have divine potential. This divine origin defines our true identity.
In our premortal life we learned the plan of salvation, which provides the way to inherit eternal life, the life of our heavenly parents. The purpose of our existence, including mortal life, is to prepare us to receive this glorious gift.
Little has been revealed about our Heavenly Mother beyond a knowledge of Her existence (see “Mother in Heaven”). Although we do not worship Her, we honor Her as a divine parent. Following the example of the Savior, we pray only to our Heavenly Father (see Matthew 6:9; 3 Nephi 18:19; Doctrine and Covenants 20:19). We receive guidance and direction from Heavenly Father and His Son through the Holy Ghost.
In this life, we strive to develop the godly attributes possessed by our Heavenly Parents. These attributes are exemplified in the life of Jesus Christ.

This is a solid and accurate critique of "Bible-based Christianity". I would add that for most of Christian history, the majority of Christians couldn't read at all, nevermind read it in the original languages. Christianity is not based on the Bible, in short. It is based on the authority of the Roman prelates, and this is something that was accepted and taken for granted universally until the Reformers and printing press appeared.

Subbed. You had me at expansion pack. Great vid. Christians don't actually have faith in Jesus Christ. Their faith doesn't even rest on the mythology of the resurrection. Their faith rests on the written words and other mere mortals who have written and circulated those words for an inexhaustible variety of motives. More specifically, written words supporting the mythology of a savior that will cleanse them of the burden of the guilt for the crimes they have committed against themselves and the world; written words that have have been re-iterated, re-translated, diluted, debated, misunderstood, misinterpreted and exploited for centuries; written words that have been...most importantly....handled, recycled and CURATED for over 2000 years by a vast, untraceable and historically invisible nexus of a specific category of human beings all sharing the common distinction of possessing the unquestioned prerogative of ostensibly knowing "the will of God" and also having been granted the authority (by other mere mortals) to act as God's proxy and mouthpiece. The professional "Church" is the oldest media mob in existence and Christians must first, by necessity, place their faith in what is and has been curated and disseminated to them in written form for thousands of years by this mob before any other considerations of interpretation can be made about the contents of any book or document authorized by this very same mob to be "the word of God".

If the Bible were the word of an all-powerful, all-knowing God, then it should not be so hard to properly interpret. Example: I have a Haynes auto repair manual for my truck, and although it is written by humans who claim no divine inspiration, it has helped me to properly repair my vehicle numerous times. Why? Because it contains factual information that is not open to interpretation. It can be translated into any language, and will still be useful for auto-repair. Why is the Bible more poorly written than an auto-repair manual? Why does a book which claims to be the only way to learn how to properly maintain your soul, contain inconsistencies, copyists' errors, and poetry?

    • @thenowchurch6419
      @thenowchurch6419 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+thetruthrover For one thing, the Divine manual was written so long ago that it cannot stay totally current about the state of man and the earth.
Of course politics of various kinds affected the various translations causing changes here and there.
I love the C.T. Russell quote BTW.
My position is that it is mainly metaphorical and can be a help to those open to the inner meaning.
Emanuel Swedenborg does the best explanation of this for me.
I believe Russell studied some Swedenborg.

Manuals, as good as they are , can only take you so far.Sometimes a totally unforseen problem arises and takes immediate innovation to solve.
Also the gears and levers in the human soul are a little more subtle than mechanical ones and so no manual is totally up to the challenge.
Regular, daily spiritual practice, ultimately is the solution. In the name of Love and Truth of course.

But if you believed in yourself the way "Jesus" did, you'd be able to make just as much as a positive difference as he did. Until the church came in and messed it all up.

I did some research, and it turns out that when the KJV was written, the word "kill" carried the same connotation/meaning as the word "murder". In other words, it is not an inaccuracy, but rather, it is a change in OUR definition of those words. However, my goal is not to change your mind. You may continue believing whatever you would like. Religious fanatics are all the same.... you believe you have evidence to back up the things that you believe in...you have "other historical writings" YADA YADA YADA. The fact is you have nothing more than old texts that are not corroborated by anything, which were written by people of questionable character thousands of years ago. As a former Minister myself I can tell you I know the Bible inside and out better than most of you and this is one reason that stands above all else for my conversion to a rational thinker. The Bible the Dead Sea Scrolls you name it are nothing but a collection of books and fables and fairytales which contradict each other in various points and make no sense at all if taken literally. I for one do not choose to live my life in this way but if you choose to it's up to you. Religious people I have found cannot be swayed because they cannot be reasoned with mostly because of a long-standing brainwashing from the crib to adult. Nothing fails like prayer and nothing converts a person quicker to atheism than a real understanding of the Bible. You too are an atheist to every god that ever existed except the one that you think is the correct one. Keep this in mind when becoming all haughty about your belief system and keep it to yourself. I personally don't go around sharing my atheism with other people and I wish religious people would do the same and keep their personal beliefs to themselves and pray in their closets as their Bible instructs them to. One thing's for certain once you've seen what a crock religion really is you can never turn a blind eye to it and go back.

As a believer two things I’ve struggled with are the amount of translations and centuries since it’s first conception. Am I to believe what I’ve read is a honest and historically accurate version of the original? The second is why do organized churches across religions receive tax exemption? I reference that famous Napoleon quote anyone reading this most likely already knows. The government says... “okay, you’re doing a good job keeping these people in line. Enjoy your tax free status.”

Styx's literal argument is the following:

Politics is inseperable from religious practice at scale, and there are always different factions that emerge to solve different issues at hand in society. In joy your comments and always up for discussion on your point of few.
I can only comment from my experience of a man of 60 years old. I have always been let down by man no matter how virtuous.
I chose to believe in something bigger and better than man.
My belief in God with all my heart and has served me well and benefited many other people.
I chose to strive to be a better me by believing in something better than myself. Most people can't get past their own self interest to see the bigger picture. The smartest people on Earth have been proven wrong over and over in human history. Without my belief in God thru Faith and Faith alone I would be a lesser man, Husband, Farther, Friend etc etc etc.

I do not blame you for your reading of the Bible, frustration with certain in your audience, and intellectually honest impatience with the edifice of the Church. I had to earn a Ph.D. from Cambridge Univesity and specialize in Apocalyptic literature to begin to grasp the issues that can guide one to a more defensibly coherent and useful reading of the Bible than you have yet managed to do. Perhaps you will. I am confident that you possess the integrity and capacity to do so, and might enjoy discovering these new possibilities, although that might not lead to any basic changes in your approach. For example, I could show you where the Canon was actually composed and how this happened well before Nicea. Anyway, I have rarely enountered a more capable kind of conversation partner over the last 68 years. It would be cool to sit down for a couple of hours and outline an approach which could intrigue you. I am sure you drink Green Mountain Coffee! My highest regards, and I look forward to your excellent political commentary to continue to inform, educate, and inspire me. Rev. William L. Schutter, Ph.D. (Cantab.).

Are you really suggesting that people who think the Bible is bullshit and/or aren't Christians are that way because they don't _understand_ the Bible or the Christian faith? Or that they just aren't reading it with an open mind? That's a pretty patronizing position to hold there, Reverend. Getting a PhD in the Bible doesn't make it any more believable.

What he is saying is that the guide book to the super natural, the bible, was written over many thousands of years by many different people. It has many perspectives on any given subject. The bible is largely prophecy, written at a time when there were no ways of conspiring to write the same things, at the same times, from around the globe. The Hopi tribes of America are a perfect example and the Dead Sea Scrolls. So no, you are not old enough to comprehend the bible, at least your response tells that about you.

A huge disadvantage for the abrahamic traditions is their worship of literature. I considered myself a believer in God and I attend the Mormon church. But I don't make the mistake of taking the historical parts of the scriptures literally. Itd be like taking a parable of Jesus literally. The actual events aren't the point of the text. I've noticed that many times BOTH atheists/Laveyan satanists and fundamentalist Christians, oddly, take the scriptures to be literal representations.

It seems pretty self-evident to me that the original 6th commandment was not "thou shalt not kill" but "thou shall do no murder" because killing is actually *commanded* in the Torah. Ancient Hebrews are ordered by God to destroy their enemies; they instructed to slaughter animals, and they are mandated to execute criminals. These are all forms of killing. 'Murder', on the other hand, may be defined as 'killing humans without just cause' or, more stringently, 'killing humans absent divine injunction'.

Brent Nongbri, Ph.D in Paleography and Papyrology stated that if you see reports of dates like 150 c.e. to 200 c.e. reference to an early manuscript, you should be very suspicious. Sometimes the reasons for dating the first copies of the New Testament are a bit "sloppy" in using early dates. Some scholars find a sample of handwriting datable to the early second century that looks similar to an early Christian manuscript must be a similar date (all the while ignoring the other equally similar samples of handwriting from later dates). With manuscripts which are Christian there is a temptation to try to restrict a date to the early end of the range. We have zero original biblical letter scrolls, just fragments of codices, which only 1% of the population used in the 1st century (and by the rich). Probably The earliest B52 fragment was probably produced much later.

Thank you for your intelligible explanation on your views of the bible and other texts. I have inquired with priests on many occasions about the contradictions I find in their teaching and what the bible actually says if I take it literally. I don’t think of myself as a “Christian “ particularly because I do not like to be classified into group that pretty much cannot agree on anything and makes an ass of themselves on a regular basis, I suppose you could say the same thing with regard to being an “American”......funny but not so funny at the same time I’m afraid. Anyway, I like to consider myself a follower of “The Way” being the ways of Jesus, I mean he seems like a pretty cool guy; I use the gospels, letters psalms & proverbs as my guide. Having been raised Roman Catholic their are still some traditions and memories I hold dear and had thought about returning but in light of the most recent sexual abuse scandal and The response given from Pope Francis I have lost all faith in Catholicism and that this horrendous problem will ever be rectified, as was my hope. I am also a recovered alcoholic.... imagine that a Catholic alcoholic, who wouldn’t drink?.....so my higher power in 12 step process has been greatly based in this theocracy. In light of this and your explanation I am feeling a bit like a child the final confirmation that there isn’t a Santa Clause and it’s been my parents all along. Given my brief history and present state of disillusionment you might be so kind as to answer a few questions for me?
    1. What was your Christian upbring like? What kind of traditions did your family follow? (If you don’t mind me asking)
    2. Can you name a particular concept or situation that drove you to question Christianity and read bible cover to cover?
    3. Would you recommend good author or book that illustrates and clearly interprets stories in Jewish Mythology? Or even books you liked.
    4. What was it about the tenets or any particular tenets of Satanism that freed you from past indoctrination so to speak? I understand you are no longer a Satanist, what lead you to this change?
Was Wiccan/Paganism what you aspired to next? (Sorry, not familar with terms to use) Why?
    5. What is the Hebrew term you used in this video referring to book of Genisis describing God as one or many Gods?
Thanks so much! I enjoy your political analysis and commentary and your phrase expansion packs is hilarious! Peace.
    Suzanne

Isa 53:1 The people reply, "Who would have believed what we now report? Who could have seen the LORD's hand in this?
Isa 53:2 It was the will of the LORD that his servant grow like a plant taking root in dry ground. He had no dignity or beauty to make us take notice of him. There was nothing attractive about him, nothing that would draw us to him.
Isa 53:3 We despised him and rejected him; he endured suffering and pain. No one would even look at him--- we ignored him as if he were nothing.
Isa 53:4 "But he endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne. All the while we thought that his suffering was punishment sent by God.
Isa 53:5 But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received.
Isa 53:6 All of us were like sheep that were lost, each of us going his own way. But the LORD made the punishment fall on him, the punishment all of us deserved.
Isa 53:7 "He was treated harshly, but endured it humbly; he never said a word. Like a lamb about to be slaughtered, like a sheep about to be sheared, he never said a word.
Isa 53:8 He was arrested and sentenced and led off to die, and no one cared about his fate. He was put to death for the sins of our people.
Isa 53:9 He was placed in a grave with those who are evil, he was buried with the rich, even though he had never committed a crime or ever told a lie."
Isa 53:10 The LORD says, "It was my will that he should suffer; his death was a sacrifice to bring forgiveness. And so he will see his descendants; he will live a long life, and through him my purpose will succeed.

14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

One interesting point you can raise with Christians is that they will never find the word ‘god’ spelled g.o.d. In any original text of the Bible. The word god is a Germanic word referring to the ancestral deity of the Germanic tribes including the Norse and Anglo-Saxons. Essentially Odin/Woden/Wotan. The word god is a pagan or more aptly heathen word.
