Thanks for this video. I am a Christian and had my own journey that led me to my faith. I am strong enough in my faith to listen to another's point of view. I respect you for giving an explanation for your non belief. You took the time and actually did your own research to come to your own conclusion. I am in no way going to bash you or tell you that you are wrong etc. it is your choice to believe it not. Other Christians who have commented on your video are great examples of why Christianity isn't held in very high regard.
@Tim Clark You added nothing to the topic, except your dribble, your apparent confusion, and your display of the poor or incomplete education you received. Go and hammer a nail, moron.
our fruit of first knowledge would have been meant to allow us fo hear of many ways - this, regardless of its source, has been present since the beginning of mind.. to achieve such a level is a strange triumph & builds what is best, from all we may hear.! the credit for doing so, matters to some degree, but, the interest you showed & your chosen approach as described, is something that others of such discipline can appreciate - as mentioned..!! ~WarriorPoet~
In regards to there being multiple gods, there are at least a couple of verses in the official Bible where 'god' is speaking and says "let us go down", or other references to "us". While theologians may say this is the Trinity referring to itself, it seems more of a conference between multiple separate entities. I know this is an ancient video, but still.
Sky above, ground below my feet. I feel, think, love and desire. I am finite, I will not live forever. Valhalla sounds like heaven, drinking, food and whores, combined with battle every day. Sounds better than any other heaven.
Free will is not a gift to just take for granted, it's a gift from God yes, but it's a responsibility. Parents buy us gifts for Christmas, but they don't let us go do what ever we want with it, they give us responsibility. A car for example, you would not let your kids drive where ever they wanted to, you give them rules. God gives us rules with free will.
Another great video, very educational. I wish I was as calm and well-spoken as you are. My religious conversations with Christians usually get me all pissed off.
Christian here, would love to have discussions with either or both of you. Nothing you say will upset me. Judges 8 (iirc) makes it clear that fighting on behalf of your god against perceived insults/blasphemy means you yourself lack faith. "Will ye plead for Baal? Will ye save him? If he be a god, let him plead for himself." I'm openminded and read LaVey before coming to faith. We may end up agreeing on a lot - let's see whether we can change each other's minds or at least learn something new.
@@solhamer3502typically, anger shows that you’re not at all knowledgeable on a topic. I appreciate your confidence brother, I hope you have many calm, and fruitful conversations.

I, too, like your concept of "expansion packs". that vernacular in this day and age makes things VERY CLEAR to some of us. Great illustration.
Ancient City of Eridu. Ea (Enki) was the Sumerian god of water. Ea made a great flood to happen on the land because he was not pleased with his creation. The only man that was left after the flood was Tagtug the weaver. Tagtug could eat from any tree, except the Cassia tree. which bestowed immortality. Ea's wife was called Ninhursag (Damkina) she was known as the "lady of the rib". She was the goddess of the world and had great knowledge she shared with Tagtug. Forbidden knowledge in Sumerian language is forbidden fruit. When Ea finds out Tagtug wants more knowledge, he curses him with sickness and a short mortality. Does this story sound familiar?
I am watching in 2019 and you have come a long way in your videos. Your mental intellect is amazing. I the average person took the time to study subject and give real thought to ideas as you imagine how much better the world would be.
I have always thought from my own research that The Council of Nicaea was not where content was decided it was for Constantine to declare he wanted Christianity in one book out of all the different fifty plus Christian sects Gospels and literature, and content was decided at a later time and place. I may be wrong.
I do know something Supernatural does exist...that has been proven to me beyond a doubt. I can't prove my experiences nor would I even argue the point anymore. but I know for myself that over a decade I have had several experiences of things that just don't happen *happen*.. I Was about to call it quits one night and I was sober and a man came to me and said he was a servant of God and was sent to give me a message. what he said to me and told me blew my mind... there was no way possible for anyone to know or predict the following next few days but he told me exactly what to expect... The next decade was a lot of ups and downs....I have been though a lot of tests... That is what our time on earth here is.....It's a test for our souls.... I do believe this to be true.. *I believe our lives would be much more fulfilling without religion*... I hate evil and violence.....I wish that was not tolerated by anyone period.... It's all a big head fuck..
I know this is an old video, mate. But I do have to clear up something that you said. Elohēm is indeed plural, but it's dual plural. In Hebrew there is a singular (One), plural (more than two), and plural (two). Just wanting to clear up any confusion. Good show. Cheers.
Heavenly Parents All human beings are beloved spirit children of Heavenly Parents (see “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”). Because of our divine parentage, we each have divine potential. This divine origin defines our true identity. In our premortal life we learned the plan of salvation, which provides the way to inherit eternal life, the life of our heavenly parents. The purpose of our existence, including mortal life, is to prepare us to receive this glorious gift. Little has been revealed about our Heavenly Mother beyond a knowledge of Her existence (see “Mother in Heaven”). Although we do not worship Her, we honor Her as a divine parent. Following the example of the Savior, we pray only to our Heavenly Father (see Matthew 6:9; 3 Nephi 18:19; Doctrine and Covenants 20:19). We receive guidance and direction from Heavenly Father and His Son through the Holy Ghost. In this life, we strive to develop the godly attributes possessed by our Heavenly Parents. These attributes are exemplified in the life of Jesus Christ.
GOD save me,gave me a new heart and indwelling holy spirit and I was not a church member I was a sinner who kept and read my bible and ask God to save me and he began to draw me to him which went on for 9 months and then I broke down and cry out for him to save me and he did and I now have this glowing spiritual presence in me that keeps me from sinning! GOD and Jesus Christ loves you don't give up on that seek and knock and the door will be open to you.
This is a solid and accurate critique of "Bible-based Christianity". I would add that for most of Christian history, the majority of Christians couldn't read at all, nevermind read it in the original languages. Christianity is not based on the Bible, in short. It is based on the authority of the Roman prelates, and this is something that was accepted and taken for granted universally until the Reformers and printing press appeared.
You are very knowledgeable of the Bible. Knowledge that you dont get by reading it thru 5 times. I suspect you have had some christian education somewhere down the line. I appreciate your honesty and your clarity of thought.
I was born into this trap as well styx. I always got into fights with people in church about the flood or some of the more questionable stories. i don't need jesus to tell me i'm doing the right thing or a god over my shoulder telling me not to kill. i have meet the most messed up people in a church.why do they need all that money? sounds like a scam to me. my dad thinks god is going to let him win the lotto or some rich guy is going to bless him with cash lol.the programing is so deep they don't even know they are doing it. the dark ages happened and set us back because of this.they will warp anything to make their views make sense.aliens are demons huh? is it too much to think that there is other life out there? nope its the devil.... and when you pray you are supposed to thank god for stuff not ask for shit like santa.
Subbed. You had me at expansion pack. Great vid. Christians don't actually have faith in Jesus Christ. Their faith doesn't even rest on the mythology of the resurrection. Their faith rests on the written words and other mere mortals who have written and circulated those words for an inexhaustible variety of motives. More specifically, written words supporting the mythology of a savior that will cleanse them of the burden of the guilt for the crimes they have committed against themselves and the world; written words that have have been re-iterated, re-translated, diluted, debated, misunderstood, misinterpreted and exploited for centuries; written words that have been...most importantly....handled, recycled and CURATED for over 2000 years by a vast, untraceable and historically invisible nexus of a specific category of human beings all sharing the common distinction of possessing the unquestioned prerogative of ostensibly knowing "the will of God" and also having been granted the authority (by other mere mortals) to act as God's proxy and mouthpiece. The professional "Church" is the oldest media mob in existence and Christians must first, by necessity, place their faith in what is and has been curated and disseminated to them in written form for thousands of years by this mob before any other considerations of interpretation can be made about the contents of any book or document authorized by this very same mob to be "the word of God".
Some very good and simple logic in this video. I am a former (inactive) Jehovah's witness and, to quote the founder of the sect, "A truth presented by Satan himself is the same as a truth stated by God...Accept truth wherever you find it, no matter what it contradicts." -subscribed If the Bible were the word of an all-powerful, all-knowing God, then it should not be so hard to properly interpret. Example: I have a Haynes auto repair manual for my truck, and although it is written by humans who claim no divine inspiration, it has helped me to properly repair my vehicle numerous times. Why? Because it contains factual information that is not open to interpretation. It can be translated into any language, and will still be useful for auto-repair. Why is the Bible more poorly written than an auto-repair manual? Why does a book which claims to be the only way to learn how to properly maintain your soul, contain inconsistencies, copyists' errors, and poetry?
+thetruthrover For one thing, the Divine manual was written so long ago that it cannot stay totally current about the state of man and the earth. Of course politics of various kinds affected the various translations causing changes here and there. I love the C.T. Russell quote BTW. My position is that it is mainly metaphorical and can be a help to those open to the inner meaning. Emanuel Swedenborg does the best explanation of this for me. I believe Russell studied some Swedenborg. Peace.
thetruthrover Manuals, as good as they are , can only take you so far.Sometimes a totally unforseen problem arises and takes immediate innovation to solve. Also the gears and levers in the human soul are a little more subtle than mechanical ones and so no manual is totally up to the challenge. Regular, daily spiritual practice, ultimately is the solution. In the name of Love and Truth of course. Peace..
+thenowchurch Since there is not a shred of evidence for the human soul, how do you know it is subtle? You waste your life on "spiritual practice" if you want. I prefer to live my life without wasting time on stuff that doesn't exist.
Ian C Knowing the soul is an inner, subjective awareness. If you do certain practices you will realize it. I am all about live and let live. As long as you are not harming anybody but yourself, knock yourself out. Just because you are not aware of something does not mean it does not exist. Peace.
YES YES YES!!! :D When you feel your most positive self, is simply the reflection of who Christ tried to be, and which is very difficult to do in such a world as this. But if you believed in yourself the way "Jesus" did, you'd be able to make just as much as a positive difference as he did. Until the church came in and messed it all up.
Styx literal argument: My assumptions are invalid therefore your bible is invalid!!! Also Styx: I like the gnostic texts because they agree with my worldview but these texts were left out, therefore, people were not simply mistaken (i.e. Council of Niceae is simply a mistake) but your entire bible is invalid!
Perhaps its all about a metaphysical God and a metaphysical hell with metaphysical fire that makes us feel metaphysical pain in a metaphysical eternity.
MrPet Boy WHO WAS MADE BY GOD, SPEAKING THEN WRITING HIS MESSAGE IN A BOOK AS COMMANDED BY GOD. MEN MOVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD WRITING THAT WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR THE SOULS OF HUMANITY. REPENT AND PRAY THAT HE CONTINUES TO SHOW MERCY. HE LOVES YOU!
James Thorpe lol... what a mindless repetition of the mantra of simpletons. Anything will do as long as it aids you "believers" to avoid taking responsibility for your own actions or - worse still - develop independent thoughts. Sure, he loves you. So what? If God's heaven is so awesome why don't you check our already and see for yourself? Come back as burning bush and let us know what it's like.
Actually, science is proving the bible events more and more. You are just not looking at the right sites, instead watching this man's opinion's. The mitochondria is all you need to understand to begin your search.
3:35 - 4:15. As a question, this seeming inconsistency/contradiction used to bother me, as well. I did some research, and it turns out that when the KJV was written, the word "kill" carried the same connotation/meaning as the word "murder". In other words, it is not an inaccuracy, but rather, it is a change in OUR definition of those words. However, my goal is not to change your mind. You may continue believing whatever you would like. Just thought I'd shed some light. Cheers!
I enjoyed the disquosition here. Enjoy the solstice and Yule Tide Cheer to you all, raise your cup and may your harvests be plentiful, and 2017 peaceful for everyone.
Religious fanatics are all the same.... you believe you have evidence to back up the things that you believe in...you have "other historical writings" YADA YADA YADA. The fact is you have nothing more than old texts that are not corroborated by anything, which were written by people of questionable character thousands of years ago. As a former Minister myself I can tell you I know the Bible inside and out better than most of you and this is one reason that stands above all else for my conversion to a rational thinker. The Bible the Dead Sea Scrolls you name it are nothing but a collection of books and fables and fairytales which contradict each other in various points and make no sense at all if taken literally. I for one do not choose to live my life in this way but if you choose to it's up to you. Religious people I have found cannot be swayed because they cannot be reasoned with mostly because of a long-standing brainwashing from the crib to adult. Nothing fails like prayer and nothing converts a person quicker to atheism than a real understanding of the Bible. You too are an atheist to every god that ever existed except the one that you think is the correct one. Keep this in mind when becoming all haughty about your belief system and keep it to yourself. I personally don't go around sharing my atheism with other people and I wish religious people would do the same and keep their personal beliefs to themselves and pray in their closets as their Bible instructs them to. One thing's for certain once you've seen what a crock religion really is you can never turn a blind eye to it and go back.
Thanks for making a coherent argument against a faith based book. Logic or reason are not tenants of the bible. Modern christians play a linguistic confidence game.
@@a1pha_staryes exactly his point of arguing against it, good for you that you have faith but there is no logic is what he meant and having faith is just believing, it’s not knowing.
As a believer two things I’ve struggled with are the amount of translations and centuries since it’s first conception. Am I to believe what I’ve read is a honest and historically accurate version of the original? The second is why do organized churches across religions receive tax exemption? I reference that famous Napoleon quote anyone reading this most likely already knows. The government says... “okay, you’re doing a good job keeping these people in line. Enjoy your tax free status.”
For the first one about translations id honestly tell you look into it deeper because the reliability of the new testament is incredible, a channel called InspiringPhilosophy has a good video series on it. Why they receive tax exemption? Probably because they're being greedy, the biggest problem in Christianity has always been Christians
The cognitive dissonance is real here. Styx: "It doesn't matter if one of the many magic systems I use was invented out of whole cloth, it's still valid and can be used effectively in my spiritual practice." Also Styx: "Because various interpretations of the bible and Christianity exist it's all bunk and I hate it."
Styx does seem to be really salty over the various interpretations of the bible. Styx's literal argument is the following: >>If my interpretation of the bible isn't valid then your bible *must* be invalid Or >>Spiritual truth cannot change. All religions have sectarianism. Hinduism, Buddhism even f**in Shinto has a variety of sects. Politics is inseperable from religious practice at scale, and there are always different factions that emerge to solve different issues at hand in society. Styx seems to be over-analyzing the Protestant heresies and is using this as raison detre to discard all of Christianity.
In joy your comments and always up for discussion on your point of few. I can only comment from my experience of a man of 60 years old. I have always been let down by man no matter how virtuous. I chose to believe in something bigger and better than man. My belief in God with all my heart and has served me well and benefited many other people. I chose to strive to be a better me by believing in something better than myself. Most people can't get past their own self interest to see the bigger picture. The smartest people on Earth have been proven wrong over and over in human history. Without my belief in God thru Faith and Faith alone I would be a lesser man, Husband, Farther, Friend etc etc etc. My your path bring you peace in the silence of your own mind!
I do not blame you for your reading of the Bible, frustration with certain in your audience, and intellectually honest impatience with the edifice of the Church. I had to earn a Ph.D. from Cambridge Univesity and specialize in Apocalyptic literature to begin to grasp the issues that can guide one to a more defensibly coherent and useful reading of the Bible than you have yet managed to do. Perhaps you will. I am confident that you possess the integrity and capacity to do so, and might enjoy discovering these new possibilities, although that might not lead to any basic changes in your approach. For example, I could show you where the Canon was actually composed and how this happened well before Nicea. Anyway, I have rarely enountered a more capable kind of conversation partner over the last 68 years. It would be cool to sit down for a couple of hours and outline an approach which could intrigue you. I am sure you drink Green Mountain Coffee! My highest regards, and I look forward to your excellent political commentary to continue to inform, educate, and inspire me. Rev. William L. Schutter, Ph.D. (Cantab.).
Are you really suggesting that people who think the Bible is bullshit and/or aren't Christians are that way because they don't _understand_ the Bible or the Christian faith? Or that they just aren't reading it with an open mind? That's a pretty patronizing position to hold there, Reverend. Getting a PhD in the Bible doesn't make it any more believable.
You are the definition of ' Piled high and Deep '.......PhD: .... a thousand of you and Styxie, still wouldn't get the real meaning of the Bible, in what-ever form it's in ...... -and I hope you didn't pay much for tuition. whatta douche. 'thx' : CS
Please explain to me what verse Hell is created in. Also why did God let "Satan" back in to heaven in the book of Job? Also why in the Hebrew Bible is the one who gave the fruit to Eve known only as a Serpent and not explicitly Satan or Devil?
What he is saying is that the guide book to the super natural, the bible, was written over many thousands of years by many different people. It has many perspectives on any given subject. The bible is largely prophecy, written at a time when there were no ways of conspiring to write the same things, at the same times, from around the globe. The Hopi tribes of America are a perfect example and the Dead Sea Scrolls. So no, you are not old enough to comprehend the bible, at least your response tells that about you.
A huge disadvantage for the abrahamic traditions is their worship of literature. I considered myself a believer in God and I attend the Mormon church. But I don't make the mistake of taking the historical parts of the scriptures literally. Itd be like taking a parable of Jesus literally. The actual events aren't the point of the text. I've noticed that many times BOTH atheists/Laveyan satanists and fundamentalist Christians, oddly, take the scriptures to be literal representations.
Hey Styx you want to hear something Funny? there is a Book in the Bible called "Nahum", that's (Human) if you change the letters around, and other parts of the book are Urban Legends ( Motifs)..
This makes me feel better..but most of my "religious" acquaintances wouldn't even be able to listen to the entire video. So many cult-like minds out there.
Well spoken. I like this idea of expansion packs. A great metaphor. I often equate Christians (and Christian theology) with people who are being consumed/deluded by a very intriguing and intense round of Pokemon (or D&D, Or Magic: the Gathering, etc.) Yes Pikachu has these powers and characteristics, Yes Jigglypuff has these characteristics and powers, ... But are they, ... at all, ...real? Nope. Obviously not. But are they real in this "other kind" of way? Yes, Absolutely. And yet, ...
Debates can't tell you what's true instead they tell you who the better debater is. WL Craig is a professional apologist and while he'd never debate some casual youtuber who like to upload some of the content he's researched; WL Craig isn't interested in what's "accurate" since he has an agenda to push and gets paid to justify a specific position.
I've watched a number of Craig's debates (including the well known one with Hitchens) and he didn't win a single one of them. In fact, I've yet to see an apologist win a debate - they just don't do logic and reason.
Regarding the last point on _Elohim_ being possibly a plural: While the word itself is sometimes used as plural (as in "Other gods"), the grammatical number can usually be inferred from the accompanying verb, which is - in the contexts referenced - generally singular.
Heavenly Parents All human beings are beloved spirit children of Heavenly Parents (see “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”). Because of our divine parentage, we each have divine potential. @@GregFessia I beg your pardon, but I've never heard of the books of Nephi or Doctrine and Covenants, certainly not as part of the Bible, which you seem to be citing. Can you explain what these are?
I believe in God to my core because that's how I was indoctrinated as a child but over the past 15yrs I've been forced to question it why would God allow soo many to suffer and become innocent victims AGAIN and again
It seems pretty self-evident to me that the original 6th commandment was not "thou shalt not kill" but "thou shall do no murder" because killing is actually *commanded* in the Torah. Ancient Hebrews are ordered by God to destroy their enemies; they instructed to slaughter animals, and they are mandated to execute criminals. These are all forms of killing. 'Murder', on the other hand, may be defined as 'killing humans without just cause' or, more stringently, 'killing humans absent divine injunction'.
Psa 90:10 Seventy years is all we have--- eighty years, if we are strong; yet all they bring us is trouble and sorrow; life is soon over, and we are gone.
Almost everything you have said concerning the Bible , is wrong . However , if you're good with your excuse for knowing of Christ yet rejecting Him ... that's why God gave us free will . Ultimately , we choose our own fate .
Though I am not defending Mormonism, they do not believe Joseph Smith to be a final prophet, Mormons believe there are on going prophets who lead the church even to this day.
I get your criticisms. I would not believe in Christianity if it were not for my personal experience with God. edit: I also wanted to throw in there that I have made the same observation. The book has been retranslated and repackaged a million times! The best way for me to follow Christianity is the personal spiritual aspect of it.
A human killing a human is murder even if it's justified. If it's justified there should be no punishment incurred such as defending one's life defending one's neighbor's life etc etc. However The definitions we prescribe does not change the nature of an action or a deed. P.s hey Styx can you suggest some of your study material I would like to expand my own knowledge.
Nicaea was not at all about canonizing Scripture. Canonizing Scripture was not even a part of it. It was about a consensus on the nature of God and Christ. Why does that myth refuse to die????
Brent Nongbri, Ph.D in Paleography and Papyrology stated that if you see reports of dates like 150 c.e. to 200 c.e. reference to an early manuscript, you should be very suspicious. Sometimes the reasons for dating the first copies of the New Testament are a bit "sloppy" in using early dates. Some scholars find a sample of handwriting datable to the early second century that looks similar to an early Christian manuscript must be a similar date (all the while ignoring the other equally similar samples of handwriting from later dates). With manuscripts which are Christian there is a temptation to try to restrict a date to the early end of the range. We have zero original biblical letter scrolls, just fragments of codices, which only 1% of the population used in the 1st century (and by the rich). Probably The earliest B52 fragment was probably produced much later.
Styx, I wish that you would spend less time bashing Christianity and maybe a little more on blatantly harmful and immoral religions like Islam. Or, how about Scientology or Mormonism for a change? I understand that you maybe had a bad experience with Christianity, but you seem inordinately militant towards it. Just saying. I am a long-time fan of yours by the way.
Thank you for your intelligible explanation on your views of the bible and other texts. I have inquired with priests on many occasions about the contradictions I find in their teaching and what the bible actually says if I take it literally. I don’t think of myself as a “Christian “ particularly because I do not like to be classified into group that pretty much cannot agree on anything and makes an ass of themselves on a regular basis, I suppose you could say the same thing with regard to being an “American”......funny but not so funny at the same time I’m afraid. Anyway, I like to consider myself a follower of “The Way” being the ways of Jesus, I mean he seems like a pretty cool guy; I use the gospels, letters psalms & proverbs as my guide. Having been raised Roman Catholic their are still some traditions and memories I hold dear and had thought about returning but in light of the most recent sexual abuse scandal and The response given from Pope Francis I have lost all faith in Catholicism and that this horrendous problem will ever be rectified, as was my hope. I am also a recovered alcoholic.... imagine that a Catholic alcoholic, who wouldn’t drink?.....so my higher power in 12 step process has been greatly based in this theocracy. In light of this and your explanation I am feeling a bit like a child the final confirmation that there isn’t a Santa Clause and it’s been my parents all along. Given my brief history and present state of disillusionment you might be so kind as to answer a few questions for me? 1. What was your Christian upbring like? What kind of traditions did your family follow? (If you don’t mind me asking) 2. Can you name a particular concept or situation that drove you to question Christianity and read bible cover to cover? 3. Would you recommend good author or book that illustrates and clearly interprets stories in Jewish Mythology? Or even books you liked. 4. What was it about the tenets or any particular tenets of Satanism that freed you from past indoctrination so to speak? I understand you are no longer a Satanist, what lead you to this change? Was Wiccan/Paganism what you aspired to next? (Sorry, not familar with terms to use) Why? 5. What is the Hebrew term you used in this video referring to book of Genisis describing God as one or many Gods? Thanks so much! I enjoy your political analysis and commentary and your phrase expansion packs is hilarious! Peace. Suzanne
Isa 53:1 The people reply, "Who would have believed what we now report? Who could have seen the LORD's hand in this? Isa 53:2 It was the will of the LORD that his servant grow like a plant taking root in dry ground. He had no dignity or beauty to make us take notice of him. There was nothing attractive about him, nothing that would draw us to him. Isa 53:3 We despised him and rejected him; he endured suffering and pain. No one would even look at him--- we ignored him as if he were nothing. Isa 53:4 "But he endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne. All the while we thought that his suffering was punishment sent by God. Isa 53:5 But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received. Isa 53:6 All of us were like sheep that were lost, each of us going his own way. But the LORD made the punishment fall on him, the punishment all of us deserved. Isa 53:7 "He was treated harshly, but endured it humbly; he never said a word. Like a lamb about to be slaughtered, like a sheep about to be sheared, he never said a word. Isa 53:8 He was arrested and sentenced and led off to die, and no one cared about his fate. He was put to death for the sins of our people. Isa 53:9 He was placed in a grave with those who are evil, he was buried with the rich, even though he had never committed a crime or ever told a lie." Isa 53:10 The LORD says, "It was my will that he should suffer; his death was a sacrifice to bring forgiveness. And so he will see his descendants; he will live a long life, and through him my purpose will succeed.
13:16 Matthew 2:10-15 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. 12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. 13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
I'm very disappointed in this. As someone who was raised Christian who desperately WANTS it to be real, for their to be a grand purpose to this vicious world, I've found plenty with the bible that doesn't make sense to me or I can point to nepotism and human corruption being likely answers. Here though you claim you've read the bible 5 times but discus none of the philosophies of the book and little of the events. That's what interested me, not "Oh we can't verify sources so I can't take it seriously" which is boring and a cop out.
One interesting point you can raise with Christians is that they will never find the word ‘god’ spelled g.o.d. In any original text of the Bible. The word god is a Germanic word referring to the ancestral deity of the Germanic tribes including the Norse and Anglo-Saxons. Essentially Odin/Woden/Wotan. The word god is a pagan or more aptly heathen word.

‘The best way to leave christianity is to actually read the bible’ -Mark Twain
Wow!! That was BRILLIANT!!! Absolutely insanely logical and well put together. I wish I could think and speak like you!
Brilliant concept of "expansion packs." I will quote you.
People are still waiting for the return of jesus LMAO😂🤣😂🤣🤣
Sky above, ground below my feet. I feel, think, love and desire. I am finite, I will not live forever. Valhalla sounds like heaven, drinking, food and whores, combined with battle every day. Sounds better than any other heaven.
What sort of God says; "do this, or burn in Hell", and basically contradicts Himself on the whole free will thing?!
One spread by the romans as a means to control by fear the many many people whos' countries were fucked over by the roman empire, Blaady Romans!
Great White7 A PROTECTING GOD, FROM EVIL YOU CANT BEGIN TO COMPREHEND BUT YOU WILL, JUST KEEP THINKING AS YOU DO.
Yeah that makes no sense. Would you like your parents watching over you 24/7 when you are 30-40 years old? lol
Dzheh Dzhi what do you mean by that
Another great video, very educational. I wish I was as calm and well-spoken as you are. My religious conversations with Christians usually get me all pissed off.
Mine usually push them to the edge of violence. Which is another red flag that they know they are wrong, but too afraid to admit it.
Christian here, would love to have discussions with either or both of you. Nothing you say will upset me. Judges 8 (iirc) makes it clear that fighting on behalf of your god against perceived insults/blasphemy means you yourself lack faith. "Will ye plead for Baal? Will ye save him? If he be a god, let him plead for himself."
I'm openminded and read LaVey before coming to faith.
This comment section is a delight.
The reason why they skipped over Jesus in his 20s was because during that time he was a party animal, turning wine into cognac n shit.
Spot on my man! So eloquent!!!!!! And everything spoken was 100% factual with pin point accuracy!!
I am watching in 2019 and you have come a long way in your videos. Your mental intellect is amazing. I the average person took the time to study subject and give real thought to ideas as you imagine how much better the world would be.
This man will be Sauron in a few years at this rate, lol. Smart, well educated and a student of magick. Big respect.
I have always thought from my own research that The Council of Nicaea was not where content was decided it was for Constantine to declare he wanted Christianity in one book out of all the different fifty plus Christian sects Gospels and literature, and content was decided at a later time and place. I may be wrong.
How can you not believe in the Christian God when you're Jesus?

Maybe he is the reincarnation of Jesus? lol

Yep
I find your videos extremely interesting.
Good show.
Cheers.
Heavenly Parents
All human beings are beloved spirit children of Heavenly Parents (see “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”).
Tray King Thank you for that wonderful testimony of what Jesus done for you!! ❤️
You opened my eyes. Thank you so much for all your videos.

I am a former (inactive) Jehovah's witness and, to quote the founder of the sect, "A truth presented by Satan himself is the same as a truth stated by God...Accept truth wherever you find it, no matter what it contradicts."

If the Bible were the word of an all-powerful, all-knowing God, then it should not be so hard to properly interpret.
Peace.
Emanuel Swedenborg? I'll check him out.
Metaphor and poetry has no place in a divine manual, just as it has no place in any other manual.
thetruthrover
Manuals, as good as they are , can only take you so far.Sometimes a totally unforseen problem arises and takes immediate innovation to solve.
Ian C
Knowing the soul is an inner, subjective awareness.
You make great videos Styx I am always left totally blown away, I hope you will be around for a long time to come making more.
I loved his Fred Phelps video too.
Styx literal argument:
My assumptions are invalid therefore your bible is invalid!!!
Also Styx:
I like the gnostic texts because they agree with my worldview but these texts were left out, therefore, people were not simply mistaken (i.e. Council of Niceae is simply a mistake) but your entire bible is invalid!
Perhaps its all about a metaphysical God and a metaphysical hell with metaphysical fire that makes us feel metaphysical pain in a metaphysical eternity.
My only problem is that the bible was written by man.........not by god.
MrPet Boy Sooooo...what is the problem?

I just came here to like and comment
3:35 - 4:15. As a question, this seeming inconsistency/contradiction used to bother me, as well. I did some research, and it turns out that when the KJV was written, the word "kill" carried the same connotation/meaning as the word "murder". In other words, it is not an inaccuracy, but rather, it is a change in OUR definition of those words. However, my goal is not to change your mind. You may continue believing whatever you would like. Just thought I'd shed some light. Cheers!
If the bible was truly the so called word of god there would be no debate of the existence of god it would just be truth but it requires faith

I am shocked...you mean people change religion to suit themselves?
Your either being highly sarcastic or just waking up
Thanks for making a coherent argument against a faith based book. Logic or reason are not tenants of the bible. Modern christians play a linguistic confidence game.
It’s called faith.
Seethe and cope tradcath.
Styx does seem to be really salty over the various interpretations of the bible.
Styx's literal argument is the following:
>>If my interpretation of the bible isn't valid then your bible *must* be invalid
Or
>>Spiritual truth cannot change.
"Expansion packs" 😰 😂😂
Indeed Jack , it's Devine intervention! Shame though I love watching Styx's videos.
Wonderful! I was wondering about your religious experiences.

So no, you are not old enough to comprehend the bible, at least your response tells that about you.
this was excellent thank you just what i was after
Thank you for your videos.
Great Video.
Fuck the translations youre a good person and you're going to a good place and if I'm wrong I'll go with you to the other place.
@aienhancedcinemalazarus so did jesus what's your point?
A huge disadvantage for the abrahamic traditions is their worship of literature. I considered myself a believer in God and I attend the Mormon church. But I don't make the mistake of taking the historical parts of the scriptures literally. Itd be like taking a parable of Jesus literally. The actual events aren't the point of the text. I've noticed that many times BOTH atheists/Laveyan satanists and fundamentalist Christians, oddly, take the scriptures to be literal representations.
Let’s discuss this shall we
Hey Styx you want to hear something Funny? there is a Book in the Bible called "Nahum", that's (Human) if you change the letters around, and other parts of the book are Urban Legends ( Motifs)..
This makes me feel better..but most of my "religious" acquaintances wouldn't even be able to listen to the entire video. So many cult-like minds out there.
That's nothing compared to this; My fairy godmother said she read the Bible cover to cover like 60 + times and is still a practicing Catholic somehow.
Have you read Bart Ehrman's book "Did Jesus Exist?". If so what did you think of it? I loved it.
Well spoken.
I like this idea of expansion packs.
A great metaphor.
I often equate Christians (and Christian theology) with people who are being consumed/deluded by a very intriguing and intense round of Pokemon (or D&D, Or Magic: the Gathering, etc.)
Yes Pikachu has these powers and characteristics,
Yes Jigglypuff has these characteristics and powers, ...
But are they, ... at all, ...real?
Nope. Obviously not.
But are they real in this "other kind" of way?
Yes, Absolutely.
And yet, ...
i think it would be great if you explained all the books in the bible in your own words xD
worth the view
... Lol, our assistant minister (Pres-Prot) asked my parents not to send me to Sunday School anymore because I "asked too many questions".
You're very smart. I admire your videos. regardless I still believe in Jesus as God. You should debate William Lane Craig!
+Naked4Jesus still interesting.
Michael: If you were actually smart, you would not accept nonsense that have no evidence or facts to support them. Research what you believe.
Michael Cristian William lane Craig is an asshole
I've watched a number of Craig's debates (including the well known one with Hitchens) and he didn't win a single one of them. In fact, I've yet to see an apologist win a debate - they just don't do logic and reason.
I’ve got a degree in theology and I think theology can be taken as a scientific pursuit but only without belief in any religion or no religion.
Cool story bro
Would love to see you debate Gene Kim as well as Frank Turek!
Regarding the last point on _Elohim_ being possibly a plural: While the word itself is sometimes used as plural (as in "Other gods"), the grammatical number can usually be inferred from the accompanying verb, which is - in the contexts referenced - generally singular.
Heavenly Parents
All human beings are beloved spirit children of Heavenly Parents (see “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”).
@@GregFessia I beg your pardon, but I've never heard of the books of Nephi or Doctrine and Covenants, certainly not as part of the Bible, which you seem to be citing. Can you explain what these are?

@@ryandonavon7451 Ah, that explains it. Not part of the Bible, then.
Isaiah 14:12 is actually a mistranslation of Nebuccazzer. It has nothing to do with Satan or Lucifer in the original context.

God is real, God is all powerful. I am a witness to His grace!
I get your criticisms. I would not believe in Christianity if it were not for my personal experience with God. edit: I also wanted to throw in there that I have made the same observation. The book has been retranslated and repackaged a million times! The best way for me to follow Christianity is the personal spiritual aspect of it.
LMAO 🤣😂🤣😂
Incredible 🎉
fantastic insight
A human killing a human is murder even if it's justified. If it's justified there should be no punishment incurred such as defending one's life defending one's neighbor's life etc etc. However The definitions we prescribe does not change the nature of an action or a deed. P.s hey Styx can you suggest some of your study material I would like to expand my own knowledge.
Great videos
Probably The earliest B52 fragment was probably produced much later.
your great!you take the time to correctly explaine so much an me and my friends have learned a lot from you!
(If you don’t mind me asking)
Peace.

Isa 53:9 He was placed in a grave with those who are evil, he was buried with the rich, even though he had never committed a crime or ever told a lie."
Isa 53:10 The LORD says, "It was my will that he should suffer; his death was a sacrifice to bring forgiveness. And so he will see his descendants; he will live a long life, and through him my purpose will succeed.
Nothing more cringe than bible quotes
True belief in God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ is not a Religion. You have a problem with religion.
13:16
Matthew 2:10-15
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Anyone who hasn't please watch Monty python's
'The Life of Brian'
I am a deist and I believe in a creator and life after death but not the Christian God or the bible.
Heard somewhere the book was originally a théâtre piece.
Christian faith boils down to love all humans unless they don't believe like they do then you will burn in hell.
