      I live in Canada and everyone seems to be having the same pool problem. Brushing won’t stop the algae, shocking it will kill it…temporarily. Instead of algaecide I use a product called ‘pool perfect’ by ‘Natural Chemistry.’ I have fought with algae for years using algaecide with limited results. Since I switched to this new product my pool NEVER goes completely green, and I live in an area where well water is so full of rust and minerals that I let all the rain water off the roof into the pool. The initial dose is about the same cost, but after that the weekly dose is so small that you’ll save money. You’ll need to see if you can get this in France or what the equivalent is.

    My husband did research and started doing our pool chemicals to save money. It ended up costing us 3 X more than just paying for a pool Co to do chemical service weekly. We could not get rid of the alge like you have, and it kept getting worse. Finally, we started up the pool service again. He put a 5 gal bucket in the pool that looked like whole milk. They said it was conditioners and would help with the gaskets and all. They put a smaller amount of it in weekly. The alge went away and hasn't come back. It's been about 8 months. I live in Southern California, where it gets pretty hot. Maybe you need conditioners? It also helps the chlorine and other chemicals last longer. You probably already know about this. But this was our experience.

    I am surprised that that last box near the pool can be at ground level. I didn’t realize electrics can be where it could be under water in a heavy rain. Is this box something different that can safely be at ground level with weather or the splashing of pool water?

    Gosh, one little blip is nothing with regard to the massive construction project you already completed. Best of luck with the sale now that everything is fixed. I know from experience that a pool can get out of balance with high humidity and pollen it just takes constant adjustment with the chemicals. The pool company should have a product to get rid of your algae !

  • @iu.5146
    @iu.5146 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I’m in the US and use a product called “YelloOut” to treat algae. Work well but is expensive.
    Keeping the pool and skimmer baskets very clean helps.
    My pool runs on only one filter. ( should be four but that’s the way the previous owner built it) I wash it every week. When it’s very hot or lots of rain, I wash them twice a week. I have a spare filter for quick swap, in case I don’t have time to wash the filter.
    Brush your pool, shock it and let the pump run 24 hours. If algae isn’t gone, repeat the process.
    Since I only have one filter, I swap it out when shocking the pool
    Phosfree is a great chemical to help your water stay clear and Alger free.

    I had the same problem with our pool in Germany. Trees around it and hot and humid weather with lots of sunshine followed by cold spells. It's that there is too much organic matter with the warmth and sunshine. Even with the correct ph and proper algae product followed by shock chlorination, it kept coming back. I then changed to a product called Baquacil. The 4 years I used it I never had problems with algae again. It appears o be more expensive but with all the ph leveling and algae stuff it's cheaper in the end. The pool was pristine while neighbors battled with algae. And it's easier to maintain. After the initial dosage, you just have to top it up Plus ph was WAY more stable even in hot weather. Here in California, I have a salt water pool that works differently. But without a saltwater converter, I would use Baquacil again.

    Calcium hypochlorite shock ;
    We recommend using Calcium hypochlorite shock or Cal-hypo shock, as an effective algae treatment. Follow the package instructions to determine the dose for your pool size, then multiply that by two, three, or four depending on which type of algae you've got.
    P.S.
    Keep chlorine levels consistently between 3 - 5 ppm the water will keep blue. This means you should use a basic test strip 2 to 3 times a week to make sure that the chlorine level is where it needs to be.

    🔥🔥How to get rid of algae - take a medium to large plastic vitamin bottle and drill holes on the Top, Bottom, and Sides. Get a couple of COPPER FITTINGS from the hardware store, put them inside the bottle, and put the bottle in the pool skimmer. Voilà - no more algae. Cooper works in birdbaths too.

    I guess because I live in Canada I find many European rules about electricity in and around water odd. (Bathroom lights outside the door or on a string in the UK) We use Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) and Ground Fault interrupters (GFI) to protect people. If they detect the slightest energy leak, they will shut down the circuit. They can be individual outlets on one circuit or a breaker on the panel.

    Here in the USA the weather has been so unusual on the east coast. Extreme heat and humidity and lots of rain and lush foliage. Swimming pools have had the same problem as you are having in France so they need to be shocked, vacuumed and backwashed often to fight the algae. I’m glad the two electrical issues didn’t turn out to be huge problems. We have GFCI outlets that are used anywhere there is water, such as bathrooms, kitchen, swimming pools, etc. they trip off the breaker if anything electrical hits the water. It doesn’t seem like you use them in France. I am sad to see your beautiful green sod has turned brown. Is Bordeaux conserving water this summer? Good job fixing the electrical. xx

    You both have done a truly marvelous job restoring the home. A few returns is not bad. Even brand new homes often need to have things done over. You did your fix. Now you only need light bulbs, and a box. You all have got this. Blessings to you and your family. Looking forward to next week.

    Here in the States we use a product called Algicide that works wonderful for killing off the algae. We also pronounce the word algae different where we use a soft /g/ as in giraffe. So we say Al- gee. Throws me off when I hear it pronounced the other way. I have always been highly interested in how different regions pronounce different words. 😊

    You could try some clear silicone grease on the pool light cover threads to help with moisture creeping in.

    Where I live one needs a licensed electrician, to sign off . They even changed the laws whereby one can't even do your own renos, you need a licensed contractor for that as well.

      I was surprised as well that he didn't need a licensed electrician. However, different countries different laws. I do wonder though if it wouldn't be worth his while to take a certification test.

      Hi Vancouver, I guess we must have been one of the last of the people who got to get a permit to rewire our house. That was ages ago! It's a shame because the inspector said we did a fantastic job. And it saved us a fortune.

    • @snoopybluejeans
      @snoopybluejeans ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good for you . I had to renew my insurance and I had to upgrade slightly and I needed a certified electrician. All the insurance wanted was new outlet boxes that my reno guy is more than capable of doing, but NO the insurance company needed it to be signed off by a certified electrician.
      My entire family of men were carpenters and not one was licensed. They all built their own homes plus a slew of others they sold, from my dad in '62, my brother later and my husband, none of them needed a contractors license. My brother informs me they do now. They didn't however do their own plumbing or electrical. Their houses were solid, square and not one leaky apartment in the bunch.
      What I see now is renos being done under the cover of darkness, by shady people, with zero permits. We just sold one duplex and they closed in the single carport and made a suite out of it. LOL Highly illegal. My reno guy lives right behind them.

    OK Edinson. Replacing an 230V circuit by a 12V circuit by just putting in an Transfo is not the solution. The appliancies will pull the same energie weather on 230 or 12V, only more Amps on 12V. The 1,5 or 2,5 mm2 cables for 230V are not adapted to the Amps of a 12V circuit. At a certain point they will burn. There is information on the Internet which type of cables you can use for 12V circuits.

    Spray the ends of each bulb with WD40 before screwing them in. Help prevent rust from forming in the socket and the bulbs last longer. Good luck.

    To help with algae.. get a couple copper pipe fittings… your pool is large so you may need a few pieces, and it must be solid copper, put them in your skimmer basket… the copper will help eliminate algae 👍🏻
