As a cellist we don't have this. I hypothesis this is because to move half way along the cello we rest our hands on top and slide along the string that way. Interesting.

Thank you so much for sharing that experience in its entirety. That location made for a beautiful shoot, but if I had been in that situation being confronted in a clearly anti-foreigner sentiment, I would have been scared and probably cried after. And because it's such a beautiful area for photos, it's obvious a lot of us would put it on our list for spots to visit. So I'm really thankful you shared your full experience with that attitude being given to you, so others know what to expect should they choose to go there. For all he knew, you could have grown up in Japan. So it's good to be aware of discrimination other travelers might face. So thanks for being so honest! You handled it really maturely. And I'm so glad none of that happened until you were on your way out! It looks like the music video will turn out gorgeous!

I was already on the fence when I found out that it's a "Man-made" attraction, and now that I've heard of such bad experiences, I am definitely not giving money to such negative, atrocious behaviour. They can keep their artificial pseudo-culture to themselves.

The big long line of torii gates at Fushimi Inari-taisha (Kyoto, the one with the massive long line of gates) loses a lot of lustre when you find out each gate is donated by a company or a family. They're very expensive votive structures.

@@Adderkleet IMHO I don't see what's wrong with the individual torii gates being regularly replaced every year. There's just no way for there to be hundreds of torii gates over hundreds of years old let's face it.

I still think those camper vans are super neat! I'm glad you're back to shooting with Kiki! It looks like i was super fun to shoot at the Tori Gate, and it's really nice that you got Mt. Fuji in the background! The zoom out of the site made me laugh because of how bad in front of the Tori looks compared to the view behind it 🤣
The guy who rented the space to you is officially a jerk. I wouldn't go there knowing how upset he was at you. And you DID use it for Shamisen! Kiki was playing Shamisen! He's just mad that a foreigner was doing the shoot. And honestly? He should be happy that Shamisen is being promoted and shown to the world. That's how you keep traditions going, but sharing them, and making them accessable to people so that they can be enjoyed and continued in the future.
