My first bike memory was walking to the hardware store with my dad to buy it. We lived downtown behind our family restaurant. The hardware store was 3 blocks away and sold many things including Schwinns. I proudly walked home, struggling to push along an adult sized beautiful blue bicycle that was so much too big for a six year old girl. I learned to ride it on the sidewalk outside the restaurant right outside the plate glass windows with our cheering, regular patrons enjoying their meals as my dad ran alongside me, helping me balance. Good times!

My bike memory, my older brother wrapped a blanket around the bike bars so I could straddle it because I couldn’t reach the seat. He then pushed me off the driveway and I proceeded to run into the cement wall of the playground. I lived through it with many wonderful bike riding memories. Oh, did have a few wheels stuck in rails of railroad crossings ( no trains were involved!,)

My bike memory: When we were young, I had a 20 inch bicycle. My little brother had a really small bike with training wheels. He wanted the training wheels off, but had trouble balancing without them. I realized that his bike was just too small for him, so offered to help him ride mine. He took off and rode it perfectly. But then I regretted it, because he wanted to always ride MY bike! 😁

Good Morning Pat! I absolutely love your Bicycle block this morning. That chevron is stunning. We lived at a lake when I learned to ride a bike. I learned on a dirt road. My favorite bike memory though is from about 10 years ago when my 80 year old dad jumped on my bike and rode it. The joy on his face as he was coming back up the driveway is such a wonderful memory. Dad has been gone for 5 1/2 years now. Sweet memory.

Pat…I love how real you are! As I watched as you cut fabric too wide and then sort out the fabric direction for the chevrons I could totally identify. Thank you for sharing these moments when things don’t go exactly as planned!

Bike memory: starting babysitting at 11 and a half and saved my money for 6 months to buy the most beautiful, SCHWIN sparkly turquoise bike with white wall wheels and darling flowered white woven basket. I had it on layaway at the local toy store and would ride my raggedy passed down from a cousin bike to make payments each weekend on it. All my Christmas and Birthday money went on it too. And you can imagine how wonderful that was when I had the last $5 to pay for that gorgeous bike. I rode it every Sat to the library to get six new books for a couple years and riding there by myself on my sparkly bike is one of my most favorite memories of childhood.

I absolutely love your block Wednesday with the chevron !,, I am thinking of using that for a whole quilt,! Thank you so much! When I was about 9 , I received my first new bike! It was a purple and white Schwinn cruiser..being from a big family we mostly got hand me downs and this was my birthday and it was brand new! I loved it!

Thanks for your daily videos. I really enjoy watching and learning while having my morning coffee. My bicycle memory is not a good one either Pat. I fell off tricycle and down a set of cement steps and landed short of falling off a wall next to the bottom of the steps. I had a broken arm and had surgery. I still remember bits and pieces of the fall and that was 60+ years ago.

I LOVE IT. That angled stripe with the chevron really makes that block!
I have been riding a full-size bike since I was about 5-6 years old. Never had training wheels. A neighborhood kid with a bike taught me. My Dad was military and was in the Dominic Republic for 15 months during the uprising where the US offered aid to them to prevent a take-over. I do remember getting a blue full-size bike for Christmas--my middle sister got a red smaller bike that year. We used to ride our bikes all over the place--and I have scars on my knees from bike wrecks. We didn't get to take them to Germany, but when we went to Colorado, we did. The same year I got my bike, I also got my first Barbie doll (1964)

You are making me feel SO much better by allowing us to see when you make mistakes. I've had to pull from stash twice now because of cutting wrong. The good news is that my "stash" is primitive-style fabric that someone gave me years ago when I was first learning to quilt. Having gotten caught up in the cycle of "oooooh, I love that new fabric", I have never touched it until now. What a life-saver - and fun to discover that she gave me a lot of very beautiful fabric that is working out very well.

I have so many bike memories…one of them was riding up in the hills with the kids in my neighborhood. We would pack food because we would be gone all day. No bodies mother ever worried about us. Those times have gone away.

I saved up and bought myself a brand new bike when I was 12 and the first time I road it I was going down, not a very steep hill with a road going across the end of the road I was on and as I went to applied the break there was no break so I went across the cross road and ended up hiting a barbed wire fence and went across the the handle bars landing on the fence and at 71 I still have the scares across my upper tummy. But I loved that bike, it gave me so many happy hours on weekends and holidays going on adventures with my friends. Love this block, been working on a quilt that has mant 1/2 square triangles and have a few that I've had to remake but have been able to salvage some by trimming down for smaller blocks.

My bike was a used adult boy's bike. Learned to ride by staying upright with a neighbor kid pushing me down a small slope in the barnyard. If I lost my balance, I landed in a huge patch of 'bullnettle' weeds. Ouch the stickers were bad. We rode on the gravel road in front of house after I learned to ride. Have hit the gravel at top speed more than once and did a somersault bike and all. Ouch. Love the Stronger Together quilt!!

My bike memory: I “borrowed” one neighbor boy’s bike and another neighbor backed over the bike…I got in trouble, but my dad did buy me a second hand bike if my own after that. I was 5.❤

I love this block. My bike story...I was riding my bike barefoot and my foot slipped off the pedal, it went between the spokes causing the front wheel to stop. The back wheel went up and over and I found myself of the ground with my foot bleeding. Luckily thuis happpened in front of my friend's house and her Mom ran out and helped me inside. Long story short my foot was broken. ouch. I still rode my bike, but not without shoes.

Oh the bike memories I have! My brother and his friends would “build” bikes and have me test drive them! 😮 wheels flying off, no steering ... and many skinned knees later, I finally figured out that wasn’t a good gig for me 😂
