A month into ownership of one of these: Blown the charge pipe and replaced with an aluminium one; water pumps died and been replaced; coils and plugs replaced; full accessory belt refresh on order. Dead stock and I adore this machine and its .....quirks. Ain't nothing like fulfilling a 10 year old dream. And my patience for slow drivers has thoroughly gone out the window.
@@eshical7311 valve cover gasket shat itself a couple of months ago, no biggie aside from a lost Saturday replacing it. Just being vigilant on the standard 100k kms issues these cars have and slowly getting them sorted. It’s got enough grunt that I’m happy for now on NZ’s tight and twisty back roads, I’m more interested in sorting out the understeer before getting into the power mods. Worst part is the brake dust which is horrific with the OEM pads, I’ve got replacements ready to go in when I can be bothered.

As someone who has crashed my dream car when I got it because of this exact thing, it really hit home and was a lesson that some might learn the hard way and may even pay for it with permanent damage to their body, or even death to themselves and other. anyways. Keep it to TRACK DAY BRO!!
That's part of driving fast cars, know your limits as a driver, AND the limits of the car. Learn your performance car, and respect it. Have had my C6 (attainable dream car) for two years. I drive it hard, everywhere. But I keep it at 70% of my ability so I don't kill myself. Don't be reckless, freeway pull when it's empty, take hard turns when safe, and if you get that sinking feeling in your nuts ease up cause you're driving to hard.

Have a stock N55 135i: Can confirm - this thing is wild, even with only 300hp. Torque curve is flat from 1500-4000 RPM. Needs a limited slip in the back but that's the only real achilles heel of the non-M 1ers. It's truly the last "analog" BMW driver's car.
I recommend a stage 1+ mhd tune. takes 7minutes to install from your phone. It changes the N55 completely. Just upgrade the chargepipe & intercooler. I'm very happy with 350hp. Could do stage 2 with downpipes but I can't let the car get louder (more amazing soundings) than it already is with its factoy performance exhaust.

I'm local to DiffsOnline, a BMW differential specialist, so I'm gonna get him to put together a Quaife unit and then toss on the M control arms, bushings, and some PSS9s. If the car isn't a monster by then I'll start thinking about power 😅
I have an N54 twin turbo 135i and installed a limited slip diff. And M car control arms, torsion arms, sway bars, and a stiffer suspension... and a 400HP tune... and it's awesome and my fake 1M is a whole lot cheaper than a real 1M

I have a 2012 1 series just like this. And let me tell you, whoever wins this car is absolutely gonna turn into an asshole driver. Mine is my first BMW and I didn't understand the whole BMW stereotype until I drove it for the first time. This car handles on rails. It hooks up. It sends a surge of testosterone in you as you put your foot to the floor. It is one of the best BMWs ever made. Facts. I bought a 2015 m235i a couple months ago and I feel the same way. It’s just such a fun car to hoon in. BMW really outdid themselves with the 1 and 2 series coupes.
You think it hooks up now, put on some M car suspension parts and a limited slip and you will absolutely LOVE how it handles. I upgraded my 2009 and the thing just rotates. So much fun.
Word to that, I'm a normal dude, and back in 2014 I got my 2008 E92 it was glorious......after getting tired of the maintenance despite babying it and needing a larger car....I still THINK about how fun that was to drive. You can get away from anything at any moment.
Cars like these are getting more and more rare. Small, light, RWD, manual shifted coupes with only one major point: F U N. I hope BMW keeps the 2 series coupe alive as it is, one of their best cars.
I thing the new BRZ is beautiful & totally awesome too. I want to drive one for fun at a dealership near me. Also the Alpine A1, or any lotus. But the BMW N55 has that six cylinder :)
I wish this performance version came in the hatchback body style instead of this very stubby coupe. The hatch is borderline practical and the rear seat isn't a torture device.

Oh Lordy the Mustang was tempting but it's been 18 months since my E30 rusted to death and I can't get BMWs out of my head... Always loved the 1-series. I feel like it's the E30s true successor.
I actually like the NA version more. Its much closer in feel to the e36 M3 I currently daily. The turbo 135i just has torque everywhere, and as a result it doesn't reward you for revving it out and enjoying the experience. That being said, this modded 135i is still amazing, and way way fast.

I've had an E30 for the better part of a decade and last year when my E90 was totaled I picked up a 128i M Sport to replace it. You can feel the lineage, the E82 is a modern E30. The dimensions are just right, It's not a big car at all and feels really similar from the captains chair to my E30. The wheelbase is short and it will bite you compared to the almost docile feeling E90 even though they're mechanically identical underneath. Stellar cars and glad I get to experience it.
E82 128i, 125i, 135i N55... Fantastic. I had an E82 120i before I bought the 135i. The 120i was a go kart in turns thanks to it's light front end four cylinder. It would be great EV conversion candidate if I had the money. The 135i is just savage. 128i is wonderful N/A smooth butter & simplicity.
135i is the last, best mainstream BMW for enthusiasts. Last one before electric steering, auto-only , AWD, fake burble, iPad dash, etc. Had mine for almost 11 years.
I have had my automatic 135i FBO N54 for a year now, it never bores me everytime I drive it. It’s funny not many people know how fast these things are, it’s kinda of a sleeper.
Picked up a stock 135i a little over year ago. It's crazy how fast it is, coming from a stage 2 WRX, it's night and day, so much faster, much more controlled, can go through corners like a knife. Price point for a used one of these is ridiculous for how much car you get.
If you're handy with a wrench and good at finding deals, you can get it close for fairly cheap. It cost me about 600 USD to get mine to about 420whp. I'm cheating with an ethanol blend though

As someone who recently built up a 335 of the same year, and upgraded tuuuuuurbo and tunnnneeeeee ...it's a wave of force that just doesn't, let. up. And amazingly fun. Don't let your friends drive it.
2008 N54 135i owner here. It's great when it's tuned but mine isn't an m-sport. So it came with 205/50/17 runflats and an open diff. On a 6mt Twin turbo I6.
N54, N55 and B58 are all excellent motors. I'm running an N55 in a 15' 435i as my daily and it has plenty of go with some light modifications. Great Video 👌🏼
Tech answers RCR never says: 0-60: 4.7 sec. 0.94 lateral g's. (fairly quick, fairly good handling). Pretty okay for 2011 though (10 years ago). Pretty good for a first car. Reliability at 10 yeas? Um... Marry a German mechanic.
I have a bone stock 135i, and it has way more power than i’d ever know what to do with. Congrats to everyone out there who bolts on everything, but it’s already stupid fast as is. Amazing, amazing vehicle.
Yessir I have a 2018 m240 xdrive. Has the b58. Tuned to 565 hp! With not much more than a downpipe, e30, and tune. I’m 51 and it’s my very first automatic and I absolutely love it! To be able to pass people like a motorcycle is just daisys
E82 135i N55 is amazing and sounds incredible with the performance exhaust. These N55s pre date OPF filters. I love my N55 135i. Stage 1+ MHD tune, Breyton GTS-R wheels, performance exhaust, brown leather, bilstein, steel flex lines, m package, no sunroof, no idrive nanny crap, manual, total enthusiast car. Every time you get in it, you will want to go on joy rides. It's been on the Nürburgring, & does 280+kph on the autobahn. It is the best sized RWD, SIX CYLINDER, COUPE with over 300hp (stock), that money can buy. Cheaper alternate to an M2.
I had a 2011 Mustang GT and I raced one of these with a tune. It was close but, I was just able to stay ahead of him. The driver was extremely surprised because he had been crushing skulls with his turbo BMW.

that’s an n55, which can’t make that power unless it has upgraded turbos, at BEST it’s 400whp but most likely more like 380-390. Also a stock turbo n55 should never flutter like that. Sounds to me like the diverted valve is stuck closed. No tune could make that happen, maybe unless the tuner just wants to destroy the turbo anyway lol

I'm just glad I purchased my 135i MSport (6-speed MT) years before the word got out. If the stock 300hp - 300lb.ft of torque ever becomes boring, I know there's room for more.
The older 1-series in Germany is nicknamed "Hängebauchschwein" (pot-bellied pig) because of its curved door design, which they changed later to a straight line.

I just bought the na version of this and was blown away by that cars speed. Considering its half the horse power, I can only imagine what it feels like to drive this 😯
I've owned a 6 speed tuned 335i for the past 10 years and it definitely does crazy things to your ego. It's not hyper muscle car fast in a straight line or anything, but it definitely holds its own on mountain roads. Not nearly as nimble as the 1 series, but at least it does get lots of turbo whooshing noises. Other than tires, another good reason these cars are limited to 155: aero. The front steering tends to get pretty light at those speeds without some really dedicated attention to aerodynamics.

I had one of these and it was a brilliant machine. That straight six is so smooth, so much instant torque

135i is the last, best mainstream BMW for enthusiasts. Last one before electric steering, auto-only , AWD, fake burble, iPad dash, etc. Had mine for almost 11 years.

I have had my automatic 135i FBO N54 for a year now, it never bores me everytime I drive it. It’s funny not many people know how fast these things are, it’s kinda of a sleeper.

Picked up a stock 135i a little over year ago. It's crazy how fast it is, coming from a stage 2 WRX, it's night and day, so much faster, much more controlled, can go through corners like a knife. Price point for a used one of these is ridiculous for how much car you get.

If you're handy with a wrench and good at finding deals, you can get it close for fairly cheap. It cost me about 600 USD to get mine to about 420whp. I'm cheating with an ethanol blend though

2008 N54 135i owner here. It's great when it's tuned but mine isn't an m-sport. So it came with 205/50/17 runflats and an open diff. On a 6mt Twin turbo I6.
They only came with open diff. Had to get 1m for lsd

N54, N55 and B58 are all excellent motors. I'm running an N55 in a 15' 435i as my daily and it has plenty of go with some light modifications. Great Video 👌🏼
Tech answers RCR never says: 0-60: 4.7 sec. 0.94 lateral g's. (fairly quick, fairly good handling). Pretty okay for 2011 though (10 years ago). Pretty good for a first car. Reliability at 10 yeas? Um... Marry a German mechanic.
I have a bone stock 135i, and it has way more power than i’d ever know what to do with. Congrats to everyone out there who bolts on everything, but it’s already stupid fast as is. Amazing, amazing vehicle.

Yessir I have a 2018 m240 xdrive. Has the b58. Tuned to 565 hp! With not much more than a downpipe, e30, and tune. I’m 51 and it’s my very first automatic and I absolutely love it! To be able to pass people like a motorcycle is just daisys

E82 135i N55 is amazing and sounds incredible with the performance exhaust. These N55s pre date OPF filters. I love my N55 135i. Stage 1+ MHD tune, Breyton GTS-R wheels, performance exhaust, brown leather, bilstein, steel flex lines, m package, no sunroof, no idrive nanny crap, manual, total enthusiast car. Every time you get in it, you will want to go on joy rides. It's been on the Nürburgring, & does 280+kph on the autobahn. It is the best sized RWD, SIX CYLINDER, COUPE with over 300hp (stock), that money can buy. Cheaper alternate to an M2.

I had a 2011 Mustang GT and I raced one of these with a tune. It was close but, I was just able to stay ahead of him. The driver was extremely surprised because he had been crushing skulls with his turbo BMW.

that’s an n55, which can’t make that power unless it has upgraded turbos, at BEST it’s 400whp but most likely more like 380-390. Also a stock turbo n55 should never flutter like that. Sounds to me like the diverted valve is stuck closed. No tune could make that happen, maybe unless the tuner just wants to destroy the turbo anyway lol
It has a blowoff valve and aluminum charge pipe.

We’ve got a 6AT 335i M Sport that’s tuned to around the same numbers with a big Pure Turbo and it is *magnificent chef kiss*. I relish every moment I get to drive it. Excited at the chance of owning something like that for myself. Good luck to all.

I've owned a 6 speed tuned 335i for the past 10 years and it definitely does crazy things to your ego. It's not hyper muscle car fast in a straight line or anything, but it definitely holds its own on mountain roads. Not nearly as nimble as the 1 series, but at least it does get lots of turbo whooshing noises. Other than tires, another good reason these cars are limited to 155: aero. The front steering tends to get pretty light at those speeds without some really dedicated attention to aerodynamics.
Man, for once that car sounded like a turbo diesel pick-up truck.
I can tell Mr. Regular isn’t a fan of naturally aspirated BMWs in 2000s (particularly the E46s), but he is such a huge fan of turbo BMWs post-E46 era.
