Oof, stone tower is terribly annoying imo. Playing the song a billion times gets obnoxious, and is worse by far than constantly switching boots in oot water temple for example. It's a cool dungeon, and has great concepts, flipping the dungeon is genius, but it feels put together so haphazardly and feels like the puzzles were designed to be annoying and make you run back and forth a hundred times. Feels like jabu jabu from oracle of ages
Wow, I remember the Ikana castle fight much harder. Like I actually died there back when I played the game. But I for some reason also remember the Garo being harder. And also blowing up. Seeing "Gorman" walk into the room, eyes filled with tears, and immediately getting a "hug" by the former dance troupe was a great moment.
@@lovickris The Ikana fight can be hard if you’re not prepared for it, and Mapo’s honestly pretty well prepared-a full ROW of heart containers, the defense, magic, and sword upgrades, the proper hint about light, and, ofc, an adult’s reflexes and experiences. So not surprised he had an easy time of it where I definitely didn’t as a kid.
@@IONATVS yeah, you're right on both answers! :'D It's probably also easier to see the attack patterns as an adult, not being that strongly immersed into the game like a kid who hadn't already seen dozens of enemy figures and knowing how they are programmed. Oh what to give to play not just this game but games in general again like it were the first time.

Lore reason, it might be because redeads are blind and rely on sound to detect Link (you can actually sneak past them if you walk slowly). But then why would they react to the other masks? Who knows - maybe they can sense the spirits within the masks.

One of my favorite little details in this game is exactly what Mapo pointed out about the Elegy of Emptiness statues. the Zora and Goron forms, white eyes, except for Link's hylian form, which as fully detailed eyes because Link himself is still quite alive. The Deku Form doesn't look dead, but it's rather hard to tell given the nature of Deku Scrub's eyes already being fairly blank.

47:30 I've only recently completed Majora's Mask myself, but I knew about the “Ben Drowned” creepypasta from the game for a long time. I thought that this statue looked like that only in the creepypasta, I thought that if there is such a statue in Majora's Mask, it doesn't look so scary. Imagine my surprise when I got to this point and saw that it looks just as scary in the original game.
It's funny how he chose to upload this video the same month the Ben Drowned creepypasta originally released to the internet back in 2010. I think Ben Drowned started on September 7th, and the gameplay footage "concluded" on September 15th
Yeah, there’s lots of reasons Majora’s Mask was such a magnet for creepypastas, and the creepy funeral effigy versions of Link left by the Elegy of Emptiness were and are a prime example.

The Bremen mask has a secret Easter egg if used during the King Ikana fight while his bodyguards are alive. I would recommend that you do the spider houses for their rewards.
I always loved how much Majora's Mask takes the core gameplay from OOT and just expands upon it. Its very unassuming at first, with alot of the reused models leading you to think initially that it's mostly an asset flip - but by god Nintendo COOKED with this one! Lots of completely new mechanics programmed in for the different transformations, mask abilities, and new songs - not to mention all of the realtime world mechanics. Makes it even more impressive considering how this sequel as developed on such a short timespan. Anyways, Stone Tower rocks so I hope you're ready for one of the coolest temples in quite possibly the entire Zelda franchise.
Definitely. When I first played OoT I wanted to play as a Goron so bad! Within the "thousands" of years of "known history" there could have been instances in which the hero of time could have been born in one of the other races. Only Zelda descends directly from herself. Nintendo should examine their sucess in Majora's Mask and use it to improve the story of their next title
54:47 - The re-compiled version of Majora’s Mask has D-pad support, which allows you access to all three masks and the ocarina at all times, without taking up and C-buttons you can use for your other items. It is pretty dang nice.
Even easier to just collect the two 100-rupee chests in town (on top of the shooting gallery in East town, and left when you enter the bombers hideout path), it takes literally 2 minutes to grab them both and fills your 200 wallet instantly. I usually sit around 1500-2k in the bank most playthroughs because of those chests
I'm glad you already figured out that the Goron Statue is Darmani and the Zora statue is Mikau. As for the Deku statue. If you think you never met him before, yes, you have. Exactly once. As for the Link statue. It's another one of Zelda's greatest mysteries. The other 3 are confirmed dead, but Link is alive.
@@lightning35 Ofc there’s the popular theory that Link is dead in MM too, but I agree with most the community that that doesn’t make sense (TP spoilers and more fan theories) . . . The Hero’s shade is an adult and confirms that Twilight Princess Link is his direct blood descendant. And I highly doubt he already has a kid of his own by Majora’s Mask time, lol. I do like the variant theory that he may be UNCONSCIOUS, and in the process of DYING in Majora’s Mask, with the adventure being him reconciling with the traumas of OoT as he struggles to wake back up, but think the best interpretation of what’s shown is…what’s shown. He falls down a rabbit hole and has an adventure in a doomed wonderland…that just happens to have lots of symbolic connections to his traumas from OoT.
@KwehShiro if the normally dead spirits cause the statues eyes to be blank after being healed into a mask, it makes me assume the player is possessing the living body and entraping the mind of a possibly innocent Termina resident that could resemble the creepy link statue.
@@TheTancam its simply because Link is alive. The song leaves a shell of the body of the one who played it. Hence when you leave a lifeless shell of Darmani or Mikau, its because you are taking on their form/body but not their soul.
I honestly thought that the switches activating the stones should work in order of ascension. There shouldn’t be a need to figure out some convoluted sequence. Unless I just got real lucky on my playthroughs and never noticed

If you fire arrow a Gibdo its bandages burn off to reveal a Redead Go for a rematch with the King while wearing the Captain's Hat, then when the fight starts use the Bremen Mask. If you talk to Pamela's father, he will tell you his ghost detecting equipment goes wild around you. Darmani and Mikau are still in there. Gonna do a reveal here because I can smell a mistake coming so subtle it can cause an actually headache inducing misunderstanding: The curiosity shop ALWAYS has something on the third night. If he gets away with the big bomb bag, Sakon delivers it on the 2nd night to be sold on the 3rd. Getting the alternative item is mutually exclusive with the Kafei quest since he wants to follow Sakon to his hideout and Sakon only comes if he has the bomb bag. When you go to stop Sakon from stealing the bomb bag, use the bow. :) Also, the spider houses are day sensitive. Have fun with that~

minor game mechanic spoilers: fun fact about the incident with the fire keese at 1:12:29 that the game doesn't really explain explicitly: the transformation masks have certain elements that they are weak to, and Link will get "knocked out" (respawn at the room entrance) if he gets hit by them. deku is weak to fire (makes sense) zora is weak to fire and ice goron is weak to water (can't swim)

3:30 this can be undone with the song of storms. 12:50 actually besides the gibdo mask, the captain's hat and garo's mask also work. the garo also said they were part of the castle's dancing troupe, not gorman's dancing troupe. 55:15 the decompiled version has some quality of life features, such as allowing to bind the d-pad as well. people usually put the ocarina and transformation masks on there.
I was going to wait to bring this up until later, but since I'm already seeing some discussion about what game you're playing next, I have no choice but to interject. I highly, HIGHLY suggest doing Twilight Princess next. Remember how Ocarina of Time's ending split off into two timelines? Well, the "Child Timeline", which you are currently on with Majora's Mask, is then followed up by Twilight Princess, while Windwaker is on the OTHER timeline. For that and other reasons, I think Twilight Princess just mskes the most sense. (I also like Twilight Princess more than Windwaker, but that's just a bonus.)

If it's money you're wanting to farm, there's 2 chests in town with 200 rupees each, and they'll respawn everytime you rewind. 1 is near the outskirts of Honey & Darlings game, amd the other is hidden on the left side of the Bombers Gang hideout.
The ellegy of emptiness stuff gave me nightmares as a kid just why do they have to look like that😅 And the zombies dancing is the silliest thing in a zelda game i think
Something funny about the bomb mask is you can shield yourself from the blast so it doesn't hurt you. So it's basically infinite bombs without downsides. Also if you really wanna earn rupees real quick, clock town has a chest with 100 rupees that's really easy to access if you know where it is, you have to do some parkour tho.
I think I had blocked out the horror elements of this game so thank you for reawakening all of those. The mirror shield face is gonna haunt my nightmares lol

54:34 The PC-Port of Majora's Mask "2Ship2Harkinian" may not have an item wheel, but you can put masks and items also on the d-pad. I like to have my items on A, X and R (playing with Switch Pro; on Xbox it would be B, Y and RB) and the masks and the ocarina on the d-pad. In the Ocarina of Time port "Ship of Harkinian" you were even able to customize the HUD buttons to show that. Don't know if 2S2H already has that feature.
You had such an easy time with Ikana castle! 😮 You figured out the falling roof puzzle super fast compared to any lets play I've seen. And the need for a powder keg threw me for such a loop back when I first played it. Also, the wizard stood no chance. Glad to see you use arrows on far away enemies. All that's left would be to use them on bats 😂
unrelated to Zelda but with how long that Radahn fight is cooking it has potential to be Elden Ring's Orstin & Smough I'm really eager to see that compilation hahah
You mention wanting an item wheel, and a lot of modded versions of this game and Ocarina both let you activate boots and ocarina through the D-pad. And the 3DS remake of this game has a couple extra item slots that can be activated by using the touch screen buttons, so you can have more than 3 items equipped at a time. Even the developers of the remakes knew that these games really needed a way to hold more items lol.
Regarding the Curiousity shop, it'll have different inventory on night 3 depending on your choices early on. Also, the 2 spider houses in the swamp and ocean are worth completing on day 1.
yeah, climbing the stone tower really brings the item system to its knees. The 3ds remake having 3 free dpad directions that do NOTHING, and them deciding to not put the transformation masks on those is so insane. luckily mods for both the base and 3ds remake add that. Same with the recompilation pc port

Yeah, Zora Link is weak to both ice and fire. I’m amazed that’s actually the first time you got hit by either in his form. 😂 Also, something neat about the Blast Mask that the game never teaches you is that you can nullify the self-damage is you use it while you’re holding guard.

I would note that the Garo never said the ReDead were members of "The Gorman Troupe" but rather of "the castles dancing troupe." Now granted, your interpretation does make a certain logical sense, albeit one depending on an assumptive leap ☺ Are you saying the Stone Mask is plain, fairly nondescript and doesn't stand out? Everybody does the Zombie Dance! Wheeeeeeereeeee is the dungeeeeeoooooonnnn!?!?!? The mystery of the falling ceiling confounds our intrepid hero, after much careful maneuvering he manages to land on top, feeling very proud of himself, unfortunately... "Let me cook" is not the expression one wants to use when standing on a red hot stone surface, literally being charred a nice golden brown. Turns out, Deku Link has a head made of hardwood, headbutting the stone slab all the way up to the ceiling again! While this does indeed seem strange, I am more concerned about the architects who designed the Royal Castle of Ikana, if this is their idea of defensible structures... or even worse... habitable quarters... oh dear. You spat in the face of the skultulla... and it ignored you. Clearly stronger stuff is required. ... bombs certainly count as stronger stuff, that's a novel solution. I like it! Ba ra ra RA! You have rediscovered the ancient technique of "Extinguish cursed flame on shield!" Trust in the spirits of the dead ninja Mapo! They have honor. "If you hit me off I swear to God!" - proceeds to jump off himself ☺ You continue to slay me good sir. Yes! Cleanse the vile hands with the power of light! Burn away the bad! Burn away the bad! Turns out jumping down wasn't a bad call after all. Yeeeess... imagine if you needed a powder keg... Denial might be a river in Egypt, deluding yourself that bombs are doing something is not however ☺ Whelp, back to Clock Town it is. Picking up all those rupees sure came in handy. Surprise dance troupe AGAIN! Indiscriminate slaughter of poor, innocent dancing ReDead... how could you! And for money!!! In fleeting darkness And arrow flies, bringing light Ancient rule ended. The Elegy of Emptiness... yeah, 'cause that's not disturbing in the least... probably the most unsettling out of all the concepts this game gives you. What is this shell? Is it but a facsimile, created by magic, a simulacrum forged from the ether? Or is it something altogether more sinister... a vestige of your physical self, lost forever as you delve deeper into the realm of spirits. Shedding your living shell in pursuit of the realms salvation... No matter! It is Stone Tower time once again! This time, with an empty army to provide the weight you were lacking before. But first, the ceaseless slaughter of innocent dancers fill your wallet to the brim with yet more blood money. In some ways the Ikana region reminds me of how the gameflow in a Metroidvania presents itself. You can access the area pretty early on but there is obstacle after obstacle, requiring a steady progression through the other areas of the game to make any real progress. Only when you are ready for the final challenges the game has to offer does the region open up and allow you the opportunity to explore it fully. The Darmani Shell proves an earlier point of mine... Goron heroes DO, in fact, skip leg day ☺ And Zora heroes really, REALLY don't like fire... ouch. Clever Mapo being clever! Darkness on the wind A tower of stone stands tall Will you bring the light?
Onwards and upwards to what might be my favorite temple in any Zelda game! When I first played this game I went through a similar thought process to Mapo with the redeads - I thought for sure the Kamaro Mask would work on them, and was also sorely disappointed 😅
What do you guys think the next title will be? Wind Waker? Twilight Princess? Both are my favorite titles, specilly the parts where we fight the armored knights
You keep hating on the Stone Mask but it literally got you into the Music Box house. Most enemies and certain NPCs don’t see you; Pamela ran back into the house whenever she saw you until you put it on.
It's a weird mask that really only serves two core purposes: sneaking about the pirates' fortress, and getting into the music house a bit easier. I don't really blame him for thinking it's a little meh, since he missed out on its true intended functionality already.
It's sad this LP is soon over. I've loved following your journey. Once you've finished, I recommend finding the creepy pasta Ben Drowned from youtube. It's a pretty epic and scary story about Majora's Mask.
I find Mapo incredibly observant. Sometimes he misses one or two things, but they’re things you’ve known for 20 years and are engraved in your mind, and he grabs damn near everything else
You should talk to the butler in deku kingdom (after killing the first dungeon boss) and then go back to the beginning of the game, under the clocktower. You might stumble onto something interesting 🥳 no spoiler or story related

Having the double health and the golden sword really helps.
The stone mask isn't a stupid nothing mask. You just already done the thing that it's most useful for: sneaking through the Pirate fortress.

I always loved how much Majora's Mask takes the core gameplay from OOT and just expands upon it. Its very unassuming at first, with alot of the reused models leading you to think initially that it's mostly an asset flip - but by god Nintendo COOKED with this one! Lots of completely new mechanics programmed in for the different transformations, mask abilities, and new songs - not to mention all of the realtime world mechanics. Makes it even more impressive considering how this sequel as developed on such a short timespan. Anyways, Stone Tower rocks so I hope you're ready for one of the coolest temples in quite possibly the entire Zelda franchise.
Definitely. When I first played OoT I wanted to play as a Goron so bad! Within the "thousands" of years of "known history" there could have been instances in which the hero of time could have been born in one of the other races. Only Zelda descends directly from herself.
Nintendo should examine their sucess in Majora's Mask and use it to improve the story of their next title

54:47 - The re-compiled version of Majora’s Mask has D-pad support, which allows you access to all three masks and the ocarina at all times, without taking up and C-buttons you can use for your other items. It is pretty dang nice.
A good tip every cycle is to blitz round the field in goron form - you can max out rupee's pretty quickly.
Even easier to just collect the two 100-rupee chests in town (on top of the shooting gallery in East town, and left when you enter the bombers hideout path), it takes literally 2 minutes to grab them both and fills your 200 wallet instantly. I usually sit around 1500-2k in the bank most playthroughs because of those chests
I'm glad you already figured out that the Goron Statue is Darmani and the Zora statue is Mikau.
As for the Deku statue. If you think you never met him before, yes, you have. Exactly once.
As for the Link statue. It's another one of Zelda's greatest mysteries. The other 3 are confirmed dead, but Link is alive.
link's statue is the only one with eyes, rest are blank. too

The Hero’s shade is an adult and confirms that Twilight Princess Link is his direct blood descendant. And I highly doubt he already has a kid of his own by Majora’s Mask time, lol.
I do like the variant theory that he may be UNCONSCIOUS, and in the process of DYING in Majora’s Mask, with the adventure being him reconciling with the traumas of OoT as he struggles to wake back up, but think the best interpretation of what’s shown is…what’s shown. He falls down a rabbit hole and has an adventure in a doomed wonderland…that just happens to have lots of symbolic connections to his traumas from OoT.
@KwehShiro if the normally dead spirits cause the statues eyes to be blank after being healed into a mask, it makes me assume the player is possessing the living body and entraping the mind of a possibly innocent Termina resident that could resemble the creepy link statue.
@@TheTancam its simply because Link is alive. The song leaves a shell of the body of the one who played it. Hence when you leave a lifeless shell of Darmani or Mikau, its because you are taking on their form/body but not their soul.

I love the idea of the Stone Tower. The idea of the elegy of emptiness and all of that is really interesting. In execution though, it's tedious.
I honestly thought that the switches activating the stones should work in order of ascension. There shouldn’t be a need to figure out some convoluted sequence. Unless I just got real lucky on my playthroughs and never noticed

If you fire arrow a Gibdo its bandages burn off to reveal a Redead
Go for a rematch with the King while wearing the Captain's Hat, then when the fight starts use the Bremen Mask.
If you talk to Pamela's father, he will tell you his ghost detecting equipment goes wild around you. Darmani and Mikau are still in there.
Gonna do a reveal here because I can smell a mistake coming so subtle it can cause an actually headache inducing misunderstanding:
The curiosity shop ALWAYS has something on the third night. If he gets away with the big bomb bag, Sakon delivers it on the 2nd night to be sold on the 3rd. Getting the alternative item is mutually exclusive with the Kafei quest since he wants to follow Sakon to his hideout and Sakon only comes if he has the bomb bag.
When you go to stop Sakon from stealing the bomb bag, use the bow. :)
Also, the spider houses are day sensitive. Have fun with that~

fun fact about the incident with the fire keese at 1:12:29 that the game doesn't really explain explicitly: the transformation masks have certain elements that they are weak to, and Link will get "knocked out" (respawn at the room entrance) if he gets hit by them.
deku is weak to fire (makes sense)
zora is weak to fire and ice
goron is weak to water (can't swim)

I was going to wait to bring this up until later, but since I'm already seeing some discussion about what game you're playing next, I have no choice but to interject. I highly, HIGHLY suggest doing Twilight Princess next. Remember how Ocarina of Time's ending split off into two timelines? Well, the "Child Timeline", which you are currently on with Majora's Mask, is then followed up by Twilight Princess, while Windwaker is on the OTHER timeline. For that and other reasons, I think Twilight Princess just mskes the most sense. (I also like Twilight Princess more than Windwaker, but that's just a bonus.)
I highly, HIGHLY suggest just doing Wind Waker because the timeline doesn't matter :p

If it's money you're wanting to farm, there's 2 chests in town with 200 rupees each, and they'll respawn everytime you rewind. 1 is near the outskirts of Honey & Darlings game, amd the other is hidden on the left side of the Bombers Gang hideout.

Something funny about the bomb mask is you can shield yourself from the blast so it doesn't hurt you. So it's basically infinite bombs without downsides.
Also if you really wanna earn rupees real quick, clock town has a chest with 100 rupees that's really easy to access if you know where it is, you have to do some parkour tho.

54:34 The PC-Port of Majora's Mask "2Ship2Harkinian" may not have an item wheel, but you can put masks and items also on the d-pad. I like to have my items on A, X and R (playing with Switch Pro; on Xbox it would be B, Y and RB) and the masks and the ocarina on the d-pad.
In the Ocarina of Time port "Ship of Harkinian" you were even able to customize the HUD buttons to show that. Don't know if 2S2H already has that feature.
Secret of Mana from 94 on the SNES had a skill wheel. :)

You had such an easy time with Ikana castle! 😮 You figured out the falling roof puzzle super fast compared to any lets play I've seen. And the need for a powder keg threw me for such a loop back when I first played it. Also, the wizard stood no chance. Glad to see you use arrows on far away enemies. All that's left would be to use them on bats 😂

You mention wanting an item wheel, and a lot of modded versions of this game and Ocarina both let you activate boots and ocarina through the D-pad. And the 3DS remake of this game has a couple extra item slots that can be activated by using the touch screen buttons, so you can have more than 3 items equipped at a time. Even the developers of the remakes knew that these games really needed a way to hold more items lol.
Regarding the Curiousity shop, it'll have different inventory on night 3 depending on your choices early on. Also, the 2 spider houses in the swamp and ocean are worth completing on day 1.

yeah, climbing the stone tower really brings the item system to its knees. The 3ds remake having 3 free dpad directions that do NOTHING, and them deciding to not put the transformation masks on those is so insane. luckily mods for both the base and 3ds remake add that. Same with the recompilation pc port

Your reaction to the Link statue's face was perfect. The HD pack kind of warped it a little too much, but this face is supposedly based on Shigeru Miyamoto - head developer of Mario and many other Nintendo games. Just another horrifying addition to all the other horrors in Majora's Mask.

Or is it something altogether more sinister... a vestige of your physical self, lost forever as you delve deeper into the realm of spirits. Shedding your living shell in pursuit of the realms salvation...
No matter! It is Stone Tower time once again! This time, with an empty army to provide the weight you were lacking before.
But first, the ceaseless slaughter of innocent dancers fill your wallet to the brim with yet more blood money.
In some ways the Ikana region reminds me of how the gameflow in a Metroidvania presents itself. You can access the area pretty early on but there is obstacle after obstacle, requiring a steady progression through the other areas of the game to make any real progress. Only when you are ready for the final challenges the game has to offer does the region open up and allow you the opportunity to explore it fully.
The Darmani Shell proves an earlier point of mine... Goron heroes DO, in fact, skip leg day ☺
And Zora heroes really, REALLY don't like fire... ouch.

When I first played this game I went through a similar thought process to Mapo with the redeads - I thought for sure the Kamaro Mask would work on them, and was also sorely disappointed 😅

You keep hating on the Stone Mask but it literally got you into the Music Box house. Most enemies and certain NPCs don’t see you; Pamela ran back into the house whenever she saw you until you put it on.
It's a weird mask that really only serves two core purposes: sneaking about the pirates' fortress, and getting into the music house a bit easier. I don't really blame him for thinking it's a little meh, since he missed out on its true intended functionality already.

Actual best farming rupees is just grabbing the chests in town and resetting. 2mins or less per loop, 200 each time
