      Fortunately Jin's amount of lines and screen time have been gradually increasing I'm glad that people are happy about it instead of bitching like some ARMY were in the comeback. I'm gonna get what I can take for now I trust that bighit will please me in the next comeback with even more screen time and lines for Jin

    Fun fact: some of those burning things in the sky are not mics. They are bodies. BTS is literally burning the haters.
    Another fun fact: There's one scene where Jungkook dances alone and you see his reflection dancing behind him. Except, the thing behind him is a window, not a mirror. It opens up into a empty room. Jungkook actually shot that part separately again to create the mirror effect.

    I think BTS did everything right. If they performed Mic drop at the AMA they would be misunderstood, they would get a lot of criticism for bragging about awards while they were not even nominated at the AMA. I mean criticism from the new audience who saw them for the first time. They performed their title track and now they will show Mic drop which is totally different, they will show their diversity to the new audience. I think everything is all right here.

    • @shinryouzen
      @shinryouzen 6 ปีที่แล้ว +138

      Yes agreed. One step at a time is all good. DNA was like a little sample of what they can do before they can go all out with their other releases to keep their target audience hooked.

    • @snisa92
      @snisa92 6 ปีที่แล้ว +152

      yup, i also think it was a smart move from bighit. DNA may not be a best song, but it put BTS in nice light. A group of boys who can sing and dance and look relatable. Fire, mic drop seem too rough for the first time audience plus it may give impression that they look cocky while in real life they actually not. Bighit know to tease people so they may feel that there is no need to show BTS best performance. Thus, i think its correct move by bighit for letting BTS perform DNA. For first time audience who doesnt know kpop, even DNA look amazing in their eyes while actually there are a lot more BTS can show off.

    • @lakarox6777
      @lakarox6777 6 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      I never thought about it like that and I was rooting for Mic Drop to be their AMA performance choice
      But then again when its good, its good.. it doesn't really matter
      However then again I have a feeling that the producers from AMA did not give them enough time to really make a lasting impression, so BigHit chose DNA
      Regardless, I think the mainstream American audience is not really prepared for this kind of act.
      I mean look at the Interviews, they were shit except for 2 or 3 them.
      Also, I may be wrong but I get the feeling other American artists are kinda jealous and scared that a random boy group will offer the authentic experience of entertainment and art combined.
      I am actually a bit scared for BTS. I am scared that the US media will tear them to shreds and do anything they can to stop their progress.
      Its sad but true :( It has happened before
      But I have faith in their determination and solid foundation of hard work ethic,brotherhood and perseverance.

    • @snisa92
      @snisa92 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      i think after their performance, people seem change their mind about BTS. They seem take them as artist more seriously. Many admit that BTS is talented. About their performance, i think its not fair for other artists as they are also given limited time to perform. As BTS just debut, bighit may dont want to be high demand so they perform at minimal scale first. Plus, AMAs already arrange BTS as second last act that show BTS indeed are taken into granted.

  • @noxfior
    @noxfior 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2120

    I always love to hear your opinion! You always notice important stuff and comment on it!
    I don't know if I necessarily agree with the DNA not being good enough for the AMAs. I mean yeah, theoretically Fire, Not Today and Mic Drop would have shoked the audience in a good way more than DNA, but if the camera and audio guys had so many problems with DNA, imagine the mess they could have done with such much more hype songs.
    Moreover, BTS is not using only DNA to promote, they are using Mic Drop as well. Today they're showing the performance at Ellen, which is one of the most viewed shows in America (and from what I heard, they didn't even use backtracks, so THAT's a f u to the ignorant ppl saying they lip synced when it was so obvious they didn't).
    They'll have the Jimmy Kimmel performance as well, and there they did Mic Drop first, so it'll be the performance that makes it on TV. They are showing more sides of themselves this way. Of course, I would have loved to see people's reaction to something like Fire at MMA or MAMA, but eh.

      RuunaLUVSesshy so true, they couldnt do a decent job for DNA, imagine with the rest. And the stage was also very simples (just with nice background images and light), I think for Fire or Not Today they would've needed a more well prepared stage to make the song justice

      RuunaLUVSesshy I agree, I would’ve loved if they performed Fire but they usually have a lot of backup dancers for that so it would’ve been more difficult to coordinate. DNA is also the song that broke a lot of records so it makes sense for them to perform it

    Thanks for the review. Tbh, many armys want them to perform mic drop/ fire/ or BST cause of the choreo and sound. It would blew ppl’s mind.. but I guess also that they perform DNA because that is their latest single which git them to Hot 100 for 4 weeks.. more than that they released mic drop remix after ppl had wanted to learn more about them after AMAs so i think it was also a smart move. It would shock new fans or ppl who are interested in them because of a different genre they can also pull off. Believe me like 90% of the fandom were expecting a surprise performance of Mic Drop. Hahaha.

    I think they did DNA because it made sense seeing as it was the song that got them into the HOT100 for the first time (and AMAs work alongside the Billboard Chart), broke records and gained them a lot of headlines in the US. But I'm pretty sure they knew DNA isn't the song that represents them as artists because the timing of releasing Mic Drop seems to be done to grab ahold of the US general public. They got Aoki and Desiigner on it and released the song a week before charts reloaded (giving fans time to stream and buy) and the same week it's being aired on Ellen, Kimmel and Cordon shows. I think it was well planned and they knew Mic Drop was what they'd go forward with.

      +MOCHI with a lot of SUGA and a cup of hot TAE you’re exaggerating the word barely. At least 35%-40% of the MV was green screen/CG. I just rewatched it to confirm. Most people can’t remember or don’t notice because of the fast cuts but I have an editor’s brain and just as I recalled, that MV has more CG than people remember. Mind you they use mainly physical sets but that doesn’t mean this is a heavily CG mv. Go rewatch it and you’ll be surprised!

    fun facts about the production of the MV that i think you might appreciate!
    - The pyrotechnics are all real! They blocked off a street in korea and actually blew up cars for it to make a more authentic explosion effect.
    - When jungkook was dancing in front of a mirror (3:10 in this video), they actually recorded him dancing from the back separately for the mirror so that the camera wasn't in it. They edited it into the mv afterwards

  • @zoneinarmei
    @zoneinarmei 6 ปีที่แล้ว +679

    Actually, DNA is NOT a full green screen. They use the green screen only a little. The rest is real set which uses colorful shapes. You can check out their behind the scene. BTS uses green screen ONLY IF/WHEN necessary. It would be appreciated if you check first before you make a conclusion.
    DNA was chosen because it was that one hit that breaking most of their records and one that gathering new and international fans despite there are many of their hype songs with great choreos.

      I'm so glad that BTS got bigger and bigger fans. It's just that I don't like that fans or them who may be just a tad bit interested with BTS spouting how cool they are then saying oh it's not what i expect (I expect more) when they see the disappointing side. They work really hard to be what they are now. IF there were some things from them that doesn't meet your expectation, at least give them appreciation. They are evolving, in their music, style, character or maybe appearance. So maybe there will be change that maybe you will like or not. It's not that I don't like when people give criticsm to the boys or anything. I am welcome to the outsider opinion. But it's not acceptable when they're spouting some high-profile opinion but without gathering facts first. So before giving some conclusion or judgement, please at least get some research first and then you can give final conclusion and opinion based on the facts you get. Thank you.

    See, it's hard for BTS to perform ONE type of their music on the AMAS stage. Their music contain so many genres from ballads to trap, their image is always constantly changing, and you will only know if youre an ARMY who has done fill research and is a informed member of the fandom. Bts can't show who they really are with ONE song performed on a bad quality stage. I believe they need to show the American audience all the different sides to BTS, because that's how I became an ARMY and how I believe more will

I expected them to perform Not Today, Fire or MIC DROP remix but since DNA is the main song of Love Yourself: Her thats what they performed. But its also not bad that they performed DNA and having a big impact on American TV and leaving them wanting to know more about BTS and their music. For a remix to hit no. 1 on iTunes is amazing. I'm really proud of BigHit 😁😄😆

    i was waiting for your review! the one shot with suga was absolutely stunning. tbh, i like the original track more? there's something gritty and dirty about the originial and it's not that i don't hate this remix but it never really went anywhere for me? like it was consistent and arguably flat? i kept waiting for this amazing drop to come and i never really found it? i don't find it horrible but i was just expecting more? dna performed at the amas made sense because it was their most recent comeback and it was the track that got their achievements for billboard. also, seeing how the dna stage was literally just them making the best out of what they were given while you had another performer actually scale down a building... i don't think they were ready to shelve out costs needed for a grander performance like not today, fire, or blood, sweat, and tears. and i think releasing this remix right off of the hype of their amas stage was smart? because now you've drawn this potential audience and the perfect chance to show off how versatile the group is.

    nope the MV was made before the Steve aoki remix, it's their japanese MV version. Big hit invested a lot in MV, they didn't need Steve to have the funds . They just incorporated scenes with steve. Like your analysis kiss

      Not quite because you can see that they're singing Korean and English here so it's not exactly the same MV as the Japanese (plus the Steve Aoki scenes). But Idk when the MVs were made so it could be that it was before the Remix and they really didn't need him to finance the production in general, you could be right about that. So yeah, basically I just wanted to say that it's not exactly the same as the japanese haha

    I'm 50/50 on your theory Mr. Producer. I do agree that Fire or Not Today would have been a stronger song choice but as you said they may have chosen DNA because of the EDM aspect catering to the American audience. I do feel that DNA was a safe choice particularly after seeing the performance. Why? Let me explain, the camera work kind of sabotaged the performance for me. The camera man didn't know how to work the camera to capture the pivotal parts of that performance let alone for more intensely choreographed songs like Fire or Not Today. I feel BTS still has time to blow the American audience away.

  • @TranceGamerGirlTTV
    @TranceGamerGirlTTV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I appreciate that you hit on so many things that I thought when I first saw this track and video. I agree with you and I may get some hate for this that DNA is not their strongest song. And I agree with you that the amas did a horrible job on managing the performance and the cameras and mics and all the problems they had were pretty crazy. I know sound tech isn't an easy job but up to that point there had been no issues as far as I know because people have been giving so much praise to the other performances. I also agree that DNA should not have been their debut television performance. But I also know that it was their most recent track so they were promoting the album that way and a lot of army we're excited to see it so I know that if they would have changed it to a different track it may not have been received as it was. However, I believe this track is better than the original in many ways and that's saying something because I was in love with the original. I like how Aoki kept a skeleton of the song and just added some different elements. I commented on this on another reactors Channel but I thought about a much better analogy this time. It's like those creative kits that give you a skeleton and pieces with different things you can build with them. The skeleton stays the same but you can add different pieces and parts to turn one thing into something completely different but again the skeleton is the same. So yes this is a true remix in the fact that the skeleton of the song was not touched but new elements and beats and new remastering was done. Mic drop the original is such a strong song that I appreciate that it wasn't changed much from its format yet still with a different sound. I do not like the desiigner track and if you have not listened to that it would be a good comparison. They gutted the song in pieces and played Lego blocks with it because desiigner's part takes up the whole first verse which pushes jhope and suga's part further back in the song which makes no sense for the flow. That's just my opinion though. Thank you for the awesome reaction. I love to hear people in the business react to these things because you guys can take a different look at the songs and videos then a standard fan.

    I feel like the original was the best, but none of the versions are perfect. The original had a weird ending that I think could have been better. The Steve Aoki one's beginning was so bare and weird, since I was used to J-hope's verse beginning with a beat drop, not a beat drop happening in the middle of it. And the Desiigner one was disappointing because it replaced J-Hope and Suga's verses that I loved. I think the original was kind of flat and not really dynamic, just as Not Today and Fire were, (I wished there was more movement like low points and build up and powerful chorus, like a dramatic wave shape). Back to the topic, Steve Aoki's instrumentals and choices didn't really fit with the rough bad-boy concept and the melody twist he added made me uncomfortable, like it could have been better. In my opinion.
    Basically, I don't feel like anyone really executed the concept BTS as well as it could have been. Like it could still be better. There's still something missing for me. Despite all the versions having short-comings, I still like BTS's the best in my opinion.

    the truth is when I first heard Dna I was disappointed a bit. i don't know it felt like it wasn't really this step further they were talking about.the song it self didn't have so much to give.the refren didn't live up to the expectations I had built up because of their previous work. the mv and the choreo are amazing but the song itself not so much. i was much more enthusiastic about Gogo for example it had interesting sounds and an interesting subject. and I also thought ah is Dna all they re gonna show? so i totally agree

    Well, I'm sure that BTS are going to perform again at the AMA's or Billboard ( I hope many times!) so they'll have a chance to show their more dynamic performances. But I hope they bring their own staff, bc the camera work at the AMA's was terrible....Bc of that, I think DNA was the right song for that time to perform...

    DNA is not really a mostly CG set MV. You can see the MV sketch. The rooms were all actually real sets.

    DNA is perfect for an introduction imo, it's something that eases you into BTS, kpop and boy bands and they've perfectly timed it by following it up with MD for the tv performances, which shows a grittier side and says hey, we're not the next 1D, we are BTS.
    I prefer the original, as I like the song fully Korean and just the whole energy of it, however this Aoki mix is really cool to listen to. I do not like the version with desiigner that's available to buy, his verse is too long, his flow doesn't fit in and the lyrics are absolutely nonsensical for what the songs means and is about.

    @e.f.c.2341 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Edit: *ARMYs don't kill me please read TILL END*
    DNA wasn't my favorite BTS song. And if you notice, they didn't "drag" it as long as their other comebacks. Blood Sweat and Tears was performed so many time and for a longer period in the era. BUT DNA was sorta cut off by Mic Drop (which was originally supposed to be a side song in their album next to Go Go) but they notice the fans "better" response to MIC DROP compared to DNA.
    Don't call me a *fake fan* For not liking a song by BTS. I feel like being fake is being in denial just to say BTS is perfect that they do no wrong. They are INPERFECTLY PERFECT (to me) that's why I love them. If DNA is your jam then that's your taste. But, I agree with this Reactor that DNA was not THE song to perform at the AMAs because it did not embody the FULL FORCE of BTS. Maybe FIRE or BST (maybe a side of CYPHERS).
    Again, my opinion may or may not be a popular opinion. I acknowledge that. So, ARMYs please don't kill me, I love our boys in my own personal way where I can be honest when some of their stuff is not my taste but I still love the heck out of them xD

      You have every right to have your own opinion. Every person has different taste in music. If you hate their music, that's okay. If you hate them as people or just because they're mainstream and you want to be different (or just want some attention), do try to do some research before looking down on an artist.

    Wow, soy army, y escuché este remix incontables veces, muchísimas pero nunca en realidad me detuve a ver cada detalle, y no sé por qué en este vídeo en serio me di cuenta que mic drop remix es una obra maestra.
    Lo sentí como si fuera la primera vez que lo escuchaba, tuve la misma adrenalina de la primera vez que la escuchaba.
    Pude sentir que todos los sonidos estaban donde deberían estar, todas las voces dónde deberían estar, simplemente, nunca me había dado cuenta de eso. No sé por qué de repente me dieron ganas de escuchar unas mil veces más, a pesar de que ya la haya escuchado incontables veces. De ahora en más, veré Mic drop de una manera totalmente diferente. +Izzy Kuro Nekomimi no Bishoujo DNA has a TON of green screen on TOP of physical sets. I literally just rewatched it and it’s got 35%-40% green screen and CG. Most people can’t remember it because the cuts are fast but I remember everything and that video heavily blends both physical sets and CG.

      Form of Therapy You should see the behind the scene of the mv as well. As much as how you got the professional eyes for this, the mv production got you fooled. That's why some of us correct you that DNA got little green screen: the part for Jin at the box room thing and V part at the bridge of the song. And I think it's less than 35% part of the mv. So I suggest do some BASIC research first before you make professional opinion.

      Izzy Kuro Nekomimi no Bishoujo I don't think he saw the behind the scene. I'm baffled that even someone who claims as a professional got tricked, and still insisted that it's a green screen. Too bad it made him looks less professional.

    As much as I like this version of Mic Drop, my heart stays true to the original Mic Drop, it's a lot more...BTS-y..you know what I mean? Like it had more of their personalities and styles in it which is why I loved it more. This version is still sick, don't get me wrong, but I feel like it lost a bit of that unique BTS flare when it combined forces with with Aoki. Least favorite bit of this version is the amount of auto tune.. like why? I'd rather listen to them shred it with their regular vocals. It is kind of awesome to hear Tae saying "Hella thicc" though lol. I agree, I think DNA was probably not the strongest choice, I would've preferred they did Fire, Not Today or BST. Actually, I would've preferred they did all of them! :D

    I'm so glad I found your channel.
    I completely agree with you in regards to DNA being performed at the AMAs. When I heard that that was what they were performing, my first thought was, "Why?" And, I mean, I know why. It's their latest song. It makes sense. But there was a rumor going around on Twitter that they would be performing Fire as well, and I got very excited before immediately shooting it down, as I knew it wouldn't happen. But I wanted it to. DNA just doesn't have what Fire, Not Today, MIC Drop, and Blood Sweat and Tears do.
    DNA would pique a number of people's interests. It would lure in an audience. It would make people curious. But Fire would have people on the floor. Not Today would grab the audience by their throats and say, "Pay attention." MIC Drop would make them unable to look away. Blood Sweat and Tears would bring them to their knees. DNA is a great song but it isn't extraordinary in the way that the aforementioned songs are. Every aspect of it that makes it unique-the musical production, the vocals, the lyrics, the choreography, the music video-are all amazing in their own respects, but in DNA, it simply isn't at the level that other BTS songs are.
    And of course, the camera work and everything else was pretty shitty on part of the AMAs crew, which really didn't help BTS at all in showing off their very best
    So yes, I agree with you. And I love how intelligently you speak about their music, videos, etc. So now you have a new subscriber!

    The mv was very well produced but i feel like it was more of an embellishment for the remix. Bts didn't change that way they danced or sang, neither did Aoki change his DJing bc of the video. I feel like it's a cause an effect, when BTS or Aoki did something the set sorta "responded" like what happened with explosion later in the mv .

    completely understand your comparison of Mic Drop and DNA, fair enough. I don't think BTS and BigHit expected DNA to explode THAT much, and it's kinda awkward to go back to Fire when they've already used it a lot in 2016 performances (tho tbh, i don't think ppl would complain if they did it again for AMA XD) and DNA charted so high in 2017 that it'll also be odd NOT to perform it. Could also be that AMAs specifically asked for that song to be performed (again, cuz of the high chart result). Either way, hopefully the attention Mic Drop is getting will be a good booster to the good impression BTS has given so far.
    I didn't realise that the sets were video production related, thanks for that analysis!!

    Everything you said, I agree with. The original Mic Drop was my least favorite song on the album, I felt it was missing something. This remix was the something. I like it much better it feels fuller or richer maybe. I DO NOT LIKE THE ADDITION OF DESIIGNER. His lyrics add NOTHING. I feel you are on point with the video. I agree. Also, I wish they had played a stronger song at the AMAS. Even if they had been allowed the time to do a slight medley of maybe Blood Sweat and Tears (no one in America is that springy while they dance) and Fire. Fire would close with such high energy. Just my opinion and I know people will probably not like me for sharing it.
    I really enjoyed your review. Actually I enjoy all that I've seen.

    I really liked it!! But I really miss the dirty beat in Jhope's party (in the beggining). I really like mic drop because is a very divided song, like, everyone have almost equal lines distribution and screen time and this is hella awesome.
    And i trully agree with you that DNA shouldn't have been their principal song for all these america and even korean promotions, i'm a lil bit sad about this bcause it lacks BTS essence and everything.

    I think DNA was a perfect intro to America for BTS. The camera work was terrible. Too much audience. It appealed to many levels of people. From there you just have to go out there and watch and listen to everything they have done. Again, I am obsessed with them. Awesome choreography and I agree, Mic Drop was a much higher level video and hopefully they can continue like this in the future. Love these guys. They are definitely growing from 4 years ago. I am cheering them on.

  • @aznmochibunny

    I agree with your end viewpoint. Them performing Mic Drop - specifically the Aoki remix - at the AMAs would have been better considering that it's remixed by a familiar name and the song has a bit more hype than that of DNA and also doesn't really represent what BTS originally stood for - despite them writing it and it still represents them. And when I mean that, I mean, BTS was originally hip hop and I feel that Mic Drop felt like that BTS. Don't get me wrong, I love DNA, just wasn't enough hype for the AMAs and the American public.

  • @kellylingro3288

    I appreciated how Aoki didn't completely alter the song as well. I would have preferred Fire or BST at the AMAs too. Not only do they have experience in doing those as large scale performances, but DNA kind of sounds like a typical boy group "i love you" song. They certainly have many romance centered songs, but it really is true that DNA was not a good representative song for BTS.
